Hollywood 1911s

I've read in places like this that many Hollywood movies used Star A or B models, told that they handle blanks better. OK, not sure why though. With the advent of external extractors it's harder to tell it is or is not a 1911 type.

Often, I believe it was a matter of the 9mm being more easily
adapted to blanks. In any case, the types of plugs or
constriction of barrels has improved. Hollywood armorer
Terence Morgan has described the various barrel
constriction methods that are used for pistols, sub and
full sized machine guns and shotguns. He mentions that
the wrong constriction matched to the wrong power of the
blank (full, half, quarter) can be very dangerous.

A so-called ''armorer" in Des Plaines, IL. using a full power
blank in a 1911 damaged the gun very seriously. I was at
the local range where it was being tested by the "armorer."
It was a "good grief" loud bang.

A Kimber, I believe.
He's supposed to have a Kimber Custom TLE II like in the Connoly books but is that actually a *custom* as the OP specifies in his original post?

I guess the question is; when is a factory custom standard offering a *custom* and when is it not?

One thing I do know is that the actor wields it superbly!

A most exceptional TV show, that!

Todd.

It is the only modern show I get excited about a new season, for a number of years now. Sadly the upcoming season is the last, from what I read.

One more 1980’s movie favorite, in 48 Hours Nick Nolte carried a 1911 after the escaped con stole his 4” S&W Model 29...

(What is it with fictional San Francisco PD Inspectors and 4” Smith .44 magnums?)

Stay safe.

ECVMac, you noted Nick Nolle with his Commander
in "Extreme Prejudice." And Riomousew911, you cited
"48 Hours." Both Walter Hill films and Hill was a
protoge of Sam Peckinpah. And then there's Michael
Mann. Anyone see a pattern here for some directors?

With John Wick posting, that character felt downright
"unarmed" with only a seven shooter 1911 Kimber.

But really, my posting was about custom or one-of-a-kind
1911s as shown in "Thief." No doubt many 1911s have
been fearured in films but really most of them ar stock.

But one more, "Street Kings" with Keanu Reeves; check
it out. It's a pretty nifty "ordinary"1911 though customized.
I'd bet a number of members of The High Road have such
a 1911 in its various stages.

Nash Bridges (Don Johnson again) had a very nice full profile comp .38 Super.

Not a 1911, but there was a gunzine article about prop weapons.
The prop man shed a tear as he sawed off an SKB shotgun. The script called for a sawn off double barrel and the actor could not manage double triggers as would be found on a cheap gun.

Nickel and black pearl? I'd say that qualifies for the thread as a custom. Very believable as a border drug-thug's gun.

While I absolutely love the movie - that ridiculous notion of field-stripping a 1911 because he was in the river completely floors me every time I see it.

Who the hell was the tech advisor for that nonsense?

Todd.

I could never tolerate any given episode long enough to see his gun but looking now - it's rather cool.
