I am trying to find a gunsmith to work on my FN and its difficult because it's already a limited pool.and most of those guys are dead or booked years out.

I want a trigger job and all the stuff it entails

Hard chrome re finish

Stippled straps front and fore

New Barrel fitted and crowned

Novak or hennie sights

If I can't find a Smith, I am thinking of selling it and purchasing a glock 17 and an health supply of mags.

It's not! I just need a pistol that logistics will support in the future. If I can find a Smith I plan to have an extra set of internals fited so I can plug and play in the future should i have a part failure.
 
Somebody here had one done by a company called ten ring precision in San Antonio. Cannot remember who the member was, bc i sure do have some questions.

Ive got a few of both. The Glocks get the snot shot out of them on a weekly basis. One rides in my holster every day.

The HP's, great guns, fun to shoot, I like mine basically stock, and see no need to mess with them. I shoot one once a month or so. Havent carried one in years.

If it were me, Id keep the HP, and take all that money you want to dump into it, and put it into a duplicate set of Glocks of your choice, a decent holster, and a bunch of mags.
 
Finding one gunsmith to do all of this will be hard . Cylinder and Slide is excellent as well as the parts they sell . Bar Sto did my barrel, I installed the Novak sights ( excellent sights ) and I did the trigger work with Cylinder and Slide parts . Trigger went from 9 lbs gritty and creepy to 4 lbs breaking clean . Wasn’t that hard . Glock 17’s while a great gun are a dime a dozen . Browning Hi-Powers are getting rare ( decent ones anyway ) and pricey . 8630E742-16C9-4024-B6D1-0B43695A53E6.jpeg
 
Join the custom hi power group on Facebook. You will find there are lots of people who do amazing work like you want. National exposure is amazing thing to local or regional thinking

All of these shops will have a waiting list. Yost of Estate Sporting Limited is 12-18 months. Same with Don Williams. You can check with the others but my guess is they are similar.

To the OP call Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports, MKIII in Vegas, APW Cogan, Ten Ring and Jodi Gritus of Gritus Precision she used to be Robar’s BHP smith. All of these shops know what they are doing. Each has their own aesthetic so choose based on your own style.

Trust me I know what I am talking about when it comes to custom BHPs.

Oh and I forgot to mention unless the barrel is defective or out of spec in some manner replacing the barrel generally does not yield meaningful real world results in my experience. I would recrown the existing barrel.

One of the most beautiful and well balanced handguns ever made - fabulous in the high polish blued Belgian made glory - those you modify with much prior thought.

I have one left that I put in ambidextrous safety, a sear and grips I think came from cylinder and Slide. It's so fine I seldom take it out (looks exactly like the one at 12 o'clock in WVsig's photo above, but with no sight change).

I've got the original sights on it only because I was squirmy about any machine work but now at 73 wish I'd sent it to Novak for better sighting.

Agree with WVsig. Unless the barrel is worn out I wouldn't change - the pistol is very accurate as is.
 
WV, I was wondering what Jodi Gritus was doing these days. There was a solid good article on her and how much she had learned in a Recoil article two years ago.

She has setup a shop with her husband. I have not had her do work on one of mine but she has been producing very nice guns. I’d send her something but I have run out of base guns. LOL

You're not alone.

I can't seem to keep a Hi-Power. For some odd reason I get bored with them and let myself get talked into selling them. Only one I have now is an FEG Hi-Power clone but I've had dozens in my lifetime. They're so smooth, so accurate and so just all-around good I get bored shooting them and they sit. The FEG is a little more of a challenge - the chamber's very tight and a little short - but it's still more accurate than I am. I'll keep it a while more though. Got to have at least one. ;)

That gun was worked on by Ted Yost. It is one of my favorites BHPs and it is not a safe queen. It gest shot pretty much every time I hit the range. He took this:

Removing the magazine safety will umprove notably your trigger. Easy to do at home.

I had mixed experiences with this. One gun, it seemed to take the slop out of it, and cleaned the pull up, the other, I saw no difference at all.

I also saw no difference in the felt weight with either.

I guess its one of those "do it and see" things.
