22 semi-auto but not a 10-22

The problem with the SA22 is finding the cantilever mount. My mother has had her Miroku for decades and it’s minute of squirrel but never been a lights out shooter. Just a nice light woods carry that gets it done.

I’ve put plenty of rounds down range as dad loves taking it apart without having ever mastered putting it back together and always insists I test fire it after reassembly. Big contrast to the 10/22 TD my son owns.

Cantilever mounts are easy to find, tons of them on ebay plus the Browning rings.

@webrx the A22 has mag options out to 25rd. I did this group today at 50yd. The first 3 was a tad so so dropped it 2 clicks and was happy with that.
The A22 heavy barrel probably would even do better than the cheapo with cbetter ammo.

I just recently picked up one of the Winchester Wildcats -- I haven't taken it to the range yet, but hope to try it out soon. I was attracted by the ability to use the Ruger mags.

I have a TCR22... but that's basically a 10/22.

I used to have a Mossberg 51m. Beautiful gun, VERY accurate, but a finickier gun I have never seen. I don't have it anymore though.

If I had to pick a new semi auto 22, I'd get a S&W M&P 15 22.

In my experience with dozens of 22s most are capable of near MOA performance if you're willing to put in the work to find ammo they like.
Autos have a couple disadvantages one is you just can't make the chamber as tight or they won't feed right and it's harder to get the trigger as good.
My Mikoru Browning and myMarlin 99m1(basically a 60) are good shooters and shoot MOA, but that's their good groups, the factory trigger makes it a little harder. My dedicated AR22 just has a budget PSA upper and a LPVO 1-5x but with an excellent Larue trigger will shoot MOA I think with a different optic it might do it even easier.
My 10/22 has a EABCO heavy barrel, a Volquartsen trigger and a 3-12x Bushnell Elite I'm disappointed when it only shoots MOA LOL.

Didn't see the rem 597 viper mentioned here, and just as well. One sitting in shop for near a year that tossed the extractor, spring and plungers without warning and now lost. Have the Volquartson extractor on the shelf but the springs/plunger are now made of unobtainium. I hear its a common problem and maybe why the extractor springs (and tiny plunger) are currently unavailable. If you have a lead let me know asap.

My CZ 511 (same as a BRNO 581 except for the buttstock shape) shot neck and neck with most of my CZ 452s, was usually an MOA shooter with ammo that suited it. It was surprisingly accurate at 50 yards with bulk Winchester 333, improved a bit with something better like SK Standard Plus or Pistol Match (but didn't improve as much as the bolt actions do with better ammo). These are very good quality guns, but IF you buy one, be sure you get a magazine with it because spares are expensive and hard to find.

Ever consider the Winchester Wildcat .22 LR, new version is suppressor ready and it accepts a few different Ruger magazines.

I had a 10/22 heavy barrel model that was an OK squirrekl rifle, but I couldn't bring myself to love it, so I sold it to a friend who loves 10/22s. Years later I decided to try a semi again. After lots of research I boguth a Bergara BXR with the light weight carbon barrel. It is advertsied as a "10/22 clone". Ruger mags work in them. But, the barrel is better and the trigger too. I can shoot ragged one hole groups with SK Standard Plus. Other cheaper ammo comes close. I'm eager to try the SK Semi-Auto rimfire ammo, which just arrived. I'll let you know how it shoots and I'm gtaking the BXR to the prairie dog shoot next weekend for it's 2nd field trial. Te first was a squirrel hunt. I killed 3, all dead center eyeball hits. I like this way better than the Ruger 10/22, Looks good too.

I had a Sabbati heavy barreled target rifle. It would shoot 1/2" groups consistently out of the box and used ruger rotary mags. I noticed that it required frequent lubing to function correctly and that the aluminum was wearing due to bolt travel. With time the accuracy took a dump as the aluminum receiver was weak and the scope holes stripped out. Tried Loctite and other epoxies but in the end i sold it off with open sights. Neat looking rifles but mine had inherent flaws.

Was just made aware of the Mauser M-15 22LR. Looks interesting. Not for me, since it is not easily adaptable to hosting my suppressor, but still another option. It's also a lot of polymer

Rio your rifle would be the only Ruger 10-22 I would buy. Just perfect in my eyes.

Still today I question CZ for stopping production of that rifle. The CZ semi carbine with plastic/ polymer frame appeal nothing to me.

Yep. The new one, the 512, reportedly shoots very well, but I just have trouble finding interest in guns like that.

I expect the 511/581 was pretty costly to manufacture. In particular, the trigger group alone must have taken a lot of time to build.

Here's the BRNO/452 style trigger (which is a good setup, can be adjusted down to a pound or so and nice and crisp) followed by the 511/581 trigger group.





And that precise little welded-together magazine was probably a lot more labor intensive too.

Don't forget the Nylon 66. Great fun still to this very day.

Google will come up with a bunch more. My Father has a scope on his but back then the receiver was dovetailed. I never even thought about putting one on mine as I always liked them with iron sights.

Boring, but if you want a challenge. My Marlin 60 with the pre-ban 18rd mag, last shot hold open trigger pack, swapped with the with the post-ban lifter action that is wayyyy more reliable, is the most ammo tolerant, reliable, accurate 22LR I own. Add to that, the fact that you can’t get parts, and the fact that it took smashing 3 guns together, it’s positively challenging

By comparison, a 10/22 is hard to beat on a pragmatic basis.

It's easy to get a 10/22 to shoot a half inch but you have to start with a good barrel. I think a lot of folks get discouraged when their sub-$100 barrel doesn't shoot lights out. IMHO, "good" barrels are $200 and up. I put one together last year that shoots a quarter inch at 50yds with match ammo.

Tbere was a Ruger LVT rifle which was very accurate.

Not long ago I bought a used Chiappa M1-22.
No less inaccurate than a new out the box ruger 10/22.
