What did you shoot today?

Spent a good portion of the day at one of the gun clubs where my son and I have memberships aka The Church of the Blazing Sixguns.
Primarily a handgun type of day.
I shot quite a few handguns...lots of rounds downrange.
Shot both of my .38Spl revolvers...S&W Model 10 and Uberti 1851 Richards Mason conversion open top, twenty rounds through each. Those are moderate power loads with Bullseye and 158gr lead SWC.
Switched over to .44Spl revolvers...twenty rounds each of moderate loads of 6.6gr of Unique and a coated commercial cast 240gr LSWC through both of my Ruger flat top BlackHawks, my Taurus DA five shot revolver and Uberti SAA clone. I also ran twenty rounds of heavier loads (7.5gr of Unique under the same bullet) through each of my Ruger flat tops.

Then I switched over to .357Magnum revolvers and shot twenty rounds of 8.6gr of Blue Dot under a 158gr commercial cast coated lead round nose through almost every .357Mag revolver I own. Only one I forgot to shoot was my S&W Model 27.
I shot all three new model BlackHawks and my three screw Blackhawk, my S&W 686 Silhouette Model, both of my Colt Troopers and my son's Taylor's SAA clone and his S&W 66. Also ran twenty rounds through my Taylor's lever action carbine.

Then I switched to .45Colt and ran twenty rounds through all of my revolvers except, again I forgot to shoot my S&W Model 25, my Contender and Super BlackHawk Hunter.
I shot both of my original Vaqueros, my nickel Uberti SAA clone, my Schofield clone, my Remington 1875 clone and my Ruger Blackhawk. Never got to my Uberti 1873 lever action rifle before we called it a day.

Never got to any of the .41Magnums or the .44Magnums today.

I know my son shot a lot of .357Magnums, .45Colt, 10mm, .45ACP and .40S&W. Not sure what else he may have shot...I will find that out when I separate the brass tomorrow or the next day. I have two large coffee cans full of fired brass to separate, tumble and then process, so I will be a busy guy for a couple of days.

Ruger Mark IV and toasted another cheap red dot on steel challenge. Came home and replaced with a Pentax Gameseeker, which has never failed. Also added a Tasco Pro-point to a Mark II, which also has never failed, in place of a 3X scope, so I can have some variety without going to a carbine. Also added a Vortex Venom to a JBM Bullpup, just in case I wish to go to the carbine. After all, variety is the spice of life.:D

They were just blanks, but 6 other members of my American Legion Post and I each ran 12 of them through our M-1 Garands at 4 different cemeteries (3 shot apiece at each cemetery) around the valley this morning. After firing each salute, another American Legion guy blew Taps, then another raised the American Flag back to full-mast before we marched off.

It’s a tribute my American Legion Post performs every year on Memorial Day, and for the past 2 years, we’ve repeated it (after the cemetery visits) at the Veteran’s Memorial in Downey - a small town about 20 miles south of here. Plus, the POW-MIA motorcycle group helps out at the Veteran’s Memorial with a tribute of their own.

It was real nice this morning - the weather was beautiful, the guest speakers did a great job, the lady that sang the Stars Spangled Banner could really sing, and 50 or so motorcycles revving in the middle of downtown Downey was awesome! My wife was there with our little Cocker Spaniel (Ruger), and she told me later that she had a heck of a time holding on to him even though he’s nearly deaf. My guess is, Ruger could probably feel the thunder more than he could hear it.:)

I finally got back to the range today. Took my Charter Undercover and Model 67, since I’ve been reloading mostly 38 lately. It was good to do something normal for a change.

The standard length M&P .22.handgun.

The extremely reliable & durable, stamped MAK 90 (7.62x39).; straight-cut receiver.

All of my mags for AKMs are Hungarian Tankers. —No exceptions—
Thousands of rounds using these, with zero feed issues etc.

My somewhat recent Ruger Mark IV was very picky about ammo for over 1,500-2,000 rds. - mostly regarding any bulk Federal. Golden B. Rem. was generally reliable.
Same problem with my M&P .22 handgun. Both guns were often cleaned/lubed with Ballistol. Even CCI Minimags had fairly frequent Fail To (fully) Extract in the Ruger and M&P.

The cure, after doing a bit of reading? Cutting off about 1/3 " from the recoil springs in one gun, 1/2 " in the other. Can't increase blowback force....but we can lower the resistance.
Now only a small fraction of the previous glitches, and most are simply due to weak "primers" in the cheapest Winchester bulk ammo.

Ignition Override.

Read your post...

Just looked at my log book on this firearm and I have only fired 880 rounds through so far, not one miss-fire ftf or fte.

CCI Mini-mags are the best in my opinion. (Suggested by one of my Wife's classmates)

So far, so good, but it isn't even broke in yet...

Mileages do vary...:(

Use care, sincerely,
B.L.

I've picked up a couple 22 rifles from a friend that's thinning the heard; Henry 22WRM and a Marlin 60 with a laminated stock ...

Went to the farm yesterday at lunch and took the Henry it has a Cabelas's 3-9-40 scope on it but had never been sighted in, so before I went I centered in between the rings and leveled it ... (I think it needs better rings). I got the elevation set up to 100 yards but I'll probably be replacing the scope, as it wouldn't adjust to the right ... at ~100 yards it was about 2" to the left from zero ... and that's as far as she went. Probably just get a Leupold Rifleman, 3-9x40; they're not expensive, the lower leg of the duplex(?) cross-hair has a second dot that on other guns seems to be good out to about 200 yards ... and I don't need the lighted reticle and other crap other inexpensive scopes all seem to have to attract the tactical crowd.

Slipped away from work again today (and remembered to bring my shooting mat), went out to the farm at lunch :neener: took the Henry 22 mag to confirm the zero (still had to make a couple adjustments) along with my Ruger 10/22 Charger with the Tail Hook brace and Binary trigger (zipped through a 25 round mag in about 3 seconds) keeping them all within the size of a large cantaloupe ... and grinned all the way back to work

About 300 rounds of Remington bulk golden bullets through the Walther/Umarex PPK/S .22. Two glitches both due to ammunition which did fire on the second strike.
