I bought one of the first Henry .41 Mags when they were released, and it's every bit as good as the Marlin. My best bud has a .41 Mag collection that most wouldn't believe if I described it.

I have used that bullet since it came onto the market, I played around with it until I finally settled on a load somewhere between starting and maximum, I stopped using Maxx loads when I discovered they were not really necessary for the taking of game animals, I use to hunt with a guy that shot his moose every year with a Colt SAA .45 Long , he never fired more than 1 shot. He tagged out every year. Lesson learned, hit where it's fatal, always a success.

That is my bested load since Hornady put it on the market, played around a little before finding my best load was with AA #9, I use a S&W M57 8 3/8" barrel, love at first shot.

More and more, I think we are recognizing that less than "magnum" loads are highly effective. Perhaps they only add a little range ? A 45 Colt load with 255 yr swc stoked with about 9 yr of Hero is a pretty reliable performer. In 41 mag, a 215 yr swc with similar amount of Hero offers great performance with out a huge magnum blast. Both loads are easy to shoot and relatively economical to load.
 
Longshot excels in the 41 magnum for midrange loads. 8.5 to 10.5 grains under a 210-240 gr bullet gives 1000 to 1150 fps with very good accuracy and enough power for anything in the lower 48.

Bush Pilot: I am totally addicted to nickel coated S&W's and Colts nickel plating, having worked in Alaska on the coast for a whole lot of years ( the salt air quickly turned blue into red rust ) long before SS handguns came onto the the market it was a life-saving maricle for salt-air exposed handguns.

I have 2 .41's. What I'm lookin' for is some guidance in loadin' with a Keith style 210 gr. bullet in my Smith mod. 57 for defense. Really don't what to have to experiment with alot of different loads. Don't have the time or facilities. Lookin' for some help and good advice. Also the best place to buy these bullets. One last thing, in some posts I've read people say you should use a .411 or .412 when reloading lead bullets??? Anybody know whats up with that? Thanks fellas!

Finest source of information on handloading rifles/handguns is Wolfe Publishing's HANDLOADER Magazine. The company is located in Scottsdale, AZ. Ask for the issue concerning the loading of the .41 Magnum. It does not pussyfoot ( meek ) handloads. Just information on HOW & the loads, around two - to- 300 different loadings using most applicable powders suitable for handguns. Been using their information for decades!!!!

Don't believe anything that walks on two or four legs on the North American Continent is immune to Elmer Keith's hunting load in the .41 Magnum, maybe not a full grown Polar Bear, Male, ????? ( They is BIG, MEAN, NASTY and will kill and eat you, leaving only blood stains in the snow and ice ) Was with a fella who shot and killed a BIG Alaskan Brown Bear, he asked me to go because I had my 450 Ackley Magnum as a backup in case he might get eaten alive, he did not, refused to go with anyone again!!

I have a real brainstorm ( actually for a long time ) I love Colts 8" barrel Anaconda, have both in .45 LC & 44 Magnum, but hey, maybe if enough of us 41 Magnum lovers would contact Colt we might be able to persuade them into building all of us 41 Magnum Anacondas, I would buy at least three 8" barreled versions, if they make them like the new 44 mag version mounting a scope would be a snap.

My SD load is Sierra's 210 gn " flying trash can " bullets, load 20 HOT, load 20 midway between hot and mild and have a LEO as witness when you have the ammo chronographed. Ask the LEO to sign the results, I use one brand for the HOT loads ( cases ) a different brand for the in between loads, use the milder loads for your SD rounds. If some asswipe PA trys to convince the jury you purpose ly concocted a deadly ammo, you have proof showing otherwise, hollow points ???? The U.S.A. never signed off on using H.P. ammo. Every Leo I have asked use either Win. 230grn ammo, Speer Gold Dot, or Federal Hydra Shock. Had a friend ( now deceased, blood cancer, thanks to Monsanto ), was forced to shoot a VERY BAD APPLE, went to court, when the Chronograph record was shown the Judge threw the case out of court, chewed on the PA awhile, made my day !!!!!
