Today an old friend stopped by with his 22 rifle. He said that it would misfire from time to time. The rifle was an old Marlin 122 single shot 22 that his father had given him. There was no finish left on the metal and just about all of the finish was worn off the stock.
After taking a look at it and removing some built up crud, the little rifle worked great. So while he was here, I gave the little gun a good cleaning. As I was cleaning the rifle and shooting the bull, my friend said that he wished that his rifle had a tubular magazine. He’s been shooting squirrels and said that if he could reload faster he could get more squirrels.
Now we’ve been friends for over 30 years and have helped each other out more times than I can count. We get along so good because, both of us are brutally honest.
After I finished cleaning up the rifle, I told him that I had something for him. I opened the gun safe in my shop and pulled out a Revelation model 110. It’s basically the same rifle but with a tubular magazine. These rifles were built by Marlin and sold by Western Auto.
I told my friend “ Here you go. “ and handed him the rifle. He said it was almost like his and in very nice shape. I told him it was his now and that he needed to take care of it.
He had a big smile on his face and said thank you.

Now this little rifle will get some good use instead of just sitting in my gun safe.

You are a good friend, wish I had met you

Hey, what you guys got against squirrels, anyway? They woke or sumpin?

Squirrels are evil and out to take over the world, hell bent on world domination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They raid bird feeders, break into your attic and make nests, chew vehicle wires up. In general, they are little terrorists. They only act cute and innocent so that you let your guard down.

Who am I kidding. I let the wife feed them suckers. Though I do threaten to put'm on the grill every now and then.

Yes. They are evil.

My little wife thought that they were cute until they raided her tomato patch. After that she was happy to fry the critters for me.
I had a bunch of the little critters move into my attic a few years ago, along with some rats. I went into the attic with a 38 and some shot shells. Between me and the critters, we did about $2000 in damage, but I don’t have a critter problem anymore .
I’ve been at war with squirrels ever since. This one came into my yard for a free meal the other day, but got some lead.

Well done, Gunny.
Maybe you're not so bad....
You should have made him promise to take you squirrel hunting though!
By giving my friend the rifle, it will only help to rid the world of these pesky tree rats. Already have plans to do some squirrel hunting with him.

Nice job! First with the cleaning work on the dirty rifle and second with the gift of a repeater.

I remember the satisfaction I had giving one of my good friends a Ruger pistol for his 50th... IMHO giving a gun to a good friend or a close relative is the best :).

Keep on being one of the good ones!

Stay safe.

Well done to you for your friend. That's what friends are for. Speaking of squirrels, they chewed through the electrical ground wire leading to our house. I could not for the life of me figure out why we getting power surges until the electrician showed up, we did a complete check of breaker boxes etc., found nothing, went outside, looked up at the wires and lo and behold. Well, guess I can now wait out on the rear patio by the pool, locked and loaded......

You are a good person and friend,Gunny.

My squirrel knowledge only covers 13 lined ground squirrels and they are very annoying little hole diggers. Fortunately they are fairly scarce here. I suppose it’s too difficult to dig holes in caliche rock for them to like this place as a home. Mesquite bushes don’t furnish a home for the tree dwellers so we have none and from what I am told about them by people that do have I’m glad we don’t.
