357 sig conversion barrel

I have a FNX 40 sw. And found out i could just buy a convesion barrel for 357 sig. So i ordered a new .357 sig barrel. Im told thats all thats needed to shoot. The magazine says it hold the sig bullet also. I ordered it about 6 months ago. Well to my surprise it came 3 days ago. Since the FNX 40 barrel is black i got a Chrome sig barrel just so id know what its shooting at the time. Safety first right? I bought it from EFK Fire Dragon. Very nice looking barrel. So i broke the FNX down and put the new barrel in. Fits like glove, It slid right in. A perfect fit if you ask me. Now its time to buy a box of .357 sig bullets and ill also reload 50 or so and check it out. I made a few dummy rounds and they cycle thru nice n smooth. I like it. I hope it fires as good as it looks. Has anyone bought a conversion barrel and how'd it work?

Ammo may prove hard to find right now, but reloading .357 Sig isn't all that hard.

Congrats on trying a new cartridge!
 
Yeah your right ammo is scarce. I found a few boxes and definitely over priced for 20 rounds. I have all the necessary components to load the .357 sig. I am excited to shoot it.
 
The things to know about 357 SIG reloading is, it takes .355" bullets, but not all .355" bullets will work with the 357. There isn't a whole lot of neck. I don't know or any round nose bullets that will work. Check with reloading manuals for what bullets they use. :)
 
I have an EFK Fire Dragon barrel for mySpringer XD40sc...it works perfectly and shoots accurately with Sig ammo. I also have .357 Sig barrels for my Glock 27, my Springer XD40 Service and my Sig P229 in .40 S&W, though the Glock has a G33 OEM barrel and theSig P229 has a Sig OEM .357 Sig barrel. All work perfectly. As the .357 Sig is a necked-down .40 S&W, successful operation should be expected. As the .357 Sig is basically a .357 Mag, you can expect more recoil, more muzzle flash, and a different point of impact than a .40 S&W.

I would be all over a 357sig barrel for an FNS!!
I have several Sig P series pistols in 357sig and I would love to expand!! It is a great round!!
 
I've got a Bar-Sto barrel for my Glock 29 chambered for 357 SIG. I had to spend a little time with a stone to get it to fit but it works great. I really like the cartridge too.
 
For all the talk about how .40 is dead, it's really .357 Sig that is.
 
I bought a Firedragon 9MM conversion barrel for a subcompact XD, worked great.

I have an FNS-40, and have considered getting a conversion barrel for it.
 
Thanks guys for the bullet info. I had read that i would need a longer neck bullet. While i was waiting for the barrel i went shopping for Dies i got a set of RCBS Dies, I got 1000 shells powder and primers i had. The bullets were the hardest to find. Only bought a box or two at a time but i finally got around a 1000. But i stayed with mostly .355 HP 124 gr bullets and .355 TFP 124 to 125 gr. bullets for the longer neck. I know i got a couple boxes of that Sig Crown V Bullet. Hope those work. I want the LFCD but i cant find one to buy. Primers O, boy dont get me started on those, im just lucky i have a few boxes of primers and after seeing the price gouging on 9mm i sold my 9 and im taking apart all my bullets to reuse the primers. Powder i have. The worst part of this project is 2 months ago i broke my back and now i have to wait longer. I cant get to my CC ( comand center ) to load. Its in the basement. Couple more weeks i can start. I have TiteGroup, Bullseye, Accurate #2 & #7 and Universal Powders. Which one would be reccomended first?

Agree.
40 S&W 180 gr. tends to impact higher than 357 Sig 125 gr. - this difference may be helpful for POA/POI discrepancies.
Glock 35 with 357 Sig barrel - has XS Big Dots - POI with 180 gr. 40 S&W a bit high for my liking, 357 Sig hits lower, my POA.

125 HST @ 1,415 fps / 556# KE
125 Ranger T @ 1,428 fps / 566# KE

In glocks for the 40s and .357 the the barrels interchange quite well. The magazines are labeled as .357 or 40. I think the interchange well, but not absolutely sure of that. But for 9 into .40 guns it can be problematic without switching out other components. I am told that a 9mm conversion barrel into a glock 22 will work, I have not tried it.

Load up some dummy rounds with your variety of bullets. Measure each cartridge and note length on the case. Let the gun's slide load the rounds one by one. Remeasure to see how much the length changed. I'm alarmed if I see more that .005" change in length. Generally I see .002-.003" change.

As for powder, I haven't used any of your list in 357 SIG. But I'd try either Universal or #7.

Im not a big tech guy but i did sign up for the Hornady and Speer Load Data App. They are nice. I was surprised to get a updated Hornady Load Manual. I wish Speer would send a new book. Having the paper load manuals are invaluable. I have a few Hornady, Barnes, Nosler, Speer, and some small generic ones. All good information. Ive been on the Hogden site many times. Ive tried buying powder when they said it was in stock but couldn't. Have you bought from the site or no? Just wondering why i cant.

They made a nice quality barrel. Just keep in mind that if its not in stock its like a 6 month wait. But if it is in stock it will ship out quick.

AA#7 out the powders listed .... but something slower like AA#9 ... would be better ... Long shot works good for the faster end ....HS6 .... on the slow end AA#9 ...Enforcer .... AA 4100 ....

If it were not for the bad metering ...800X works great ...

The VCROWN bullets do good .... XTP are still my favorite
 
I seldom carry my Glock 23c with the 40S&W barrel, I usually have the 357SIG barrel in. I found the Xtreme 135gr HP is a good bullet to reload, it's long enough to get a good neck seal. Their 135gr FP isn't a good fit. I mostly use 147gr load data. A while back I found a good deal on a SIG 226 in 40, I had a 357SIG barrel delivered before I got it to the range.
