Open carry is the norm, what would you carry?

If CONCEALED carry were outlawed, but OPEN carry was not only universally legal, but in fact the norm in our society, what would you carry and how?
Well, it's not, so I am not going to worry about it. Beside, I think open carrying just makes one a target. I don't open carry even though it's permitted in Indiana.

If open carry were the norm and commonly done the rules would be different. But with things the way they are now I agree with you. I don't OC either even though it is legal.

As it is I prefer a Sig 365 or G43 for CC, but if open carry were the norm a G19 or something of similar size.

Pretty much for the same reason I don't have NRA or gun manufacturer's decals on the back window of my car.

I wouldn't want to make myself a target so I'd definitely say no to Open Carry.
The premise is that everyone, or nearly everyone, is expected to be openly carrying in their daily lives. Those who ARENT are the ones who will stand out for one reason or another- and may make themselves the subject of scrutiny by either crimnals or the merely curious.

Think Renaissance Europe or Feudal Japan where the samurai and gentlemanly classes routinely carried swords, except extend the idea to the whole of the populace in modern times.

If open carry was the norm, I would certainly carry a larger gun that I am more accurate with. A revolver with a 4 inch barrel or a semiauto with a 4.5 to 5 inch barrel. I don’t know which one though. A Colt King Cobra Target model or a Beretta 92X full size maybe. I don’t own either of them but I would if that’s what I wanted to carry.

My '51 Navy colts in a crossdraw rig :)
I think many would come to see their openly displayed arms as status symbols, ornaments, or accessories if they didnt expect to actually need to use them- either because its a low-crime environment/neighborhood or society in general may become LESS dangerous and more polite (as Heinlein theorized).

Sorta like watches, or even jewelry. Some would wear a Rolex (Korth) and some a Seiko (Glock).....or even an antique pocket watch (1851 Navy). :)

If the reason is I might need a gun: My 12.5" BCM upper in 5.56, a 20 rounder fitted, on the VCAS tightened up to the chest or back whenever possible. Another 20 on the belt at 10:30.

And also (and I presume your point) my current woodsy/range gun, the M&P9 with RDS and WML, in a fabric-covered Safariland ALS with the cheeto guard and the shortest drop UBL, with QLS to the holster for space and when I need to remove it.

Probably a different holster or a QLS vehicle mount if I drove a lot, but I just don't.

Probably just a mid-size handgun, probably whatever I am currently carrying as my open carry tractor/UTV gun out at the hunting property. An OWB holster is so much more comfortable than many CCW carry system.

Well if that were the case I would still probably go with something that was lightweight and comfortable to carry. Maybe a Ruger SR9c, CZ P07, HK VP9, or else a Colt Commander .38 Super.

And if I ever moved out West it would have to be a single action revolver like a Ruger Blackhawk, Ruger Vaquero, or a copy of a Colt SAA, like a Beretta Stampede.

From what I own, I would probably carry my CZ 75, in a lefthanded leather holster slung low, maybe mid-thigh. I'm going to assume that since everyone carries, there would be a bit of style incorporated.

I'd want to get a Broomhandle and wear it Han Solo style. ;)

And some days, you'd just have to have a good ol' Colt SAA Peacemaker.

I'll play, but prefer to carry concealed. I would have either my Tisa Carry 1911 45, or my Hi-Power Practical 40. Both shoot very well and have plenty of umph. My conceal gun is a 42 Glock. Not much power but is plenty accurate. A double tap up close and personal would make the target uncomfortable.
