Favorite cartridge

I owned a couple of .44 magnums in the past, and then bought a Taurus Tracker in that chambering, but mostly used it for .44 Special as it (in my opinion) is a gun that would not withstand a steady diet of magnum loads. I liked the Tracker very much but had to sell it due to $ needs. (tears shed). A few years later I bought a Rossi M720 in .44 Special for less than 1/2 the cost of replacing my Taurus. The Interarms Rossi M720 ( I eventually ended up with 3) is a very decent gun and so is the .44 Special cartridge which I now favor.

Since the thread limits one to their favorite revolver cartridge, that would be 45 Colt. 44 Special would be a close second. I love those large diameter, heavy, slow moving thumpers.

My favorite handgun cartridge is 38/45 Clerke. It is just something you don't see every day. I have two 1911's chambered in the round.

Favorite for using the revolver, that will be the 500 S&W magnum. Just defies Earth's curvature

And then the 460 came along.........just saying.:)

Difficult to pick a favorite.
My new to me one is 45 ACP, who'd of thunk that a revolver* guy could liken up to pistol? (*357, 44, 460,...)

Oh, edit too add,
I defiantly enjoy my Ruger Mark IV!

In my old age I'm having the most fun shooting 45 Colt black powder rounds in my single actions. For 45-50 years my all time favorite cartridge, in either a semi auto or a revolver, was the 45 ACP. I carried a 1911 of one model or other through out my LEO career. But my first love was and still is the 45 Colt and the Colt pattern single action revolver.

Favorite is .327 magnum because it also chambers four additional calibers.

If I planned on hunting medium or larger game with it I'd choose .44 but since I dont .327 Fed mag is my favorite revolver chamber.

Any cartridge that I can use in both a handgun and a rifle.
As of right now, that limits me to two calibers, .38 Spec./.357 Mag., and .22 LR/Mag.
GP-100 Lt. side.jpg Marlin 1894 - left side.jpg GP-100 and Marlin 1894.

Marlin 881 lt.jpg Ruger 10-22 lt.jpg Ruger Single-6 rt.jpg Marlin 881, Ruger 10/22, and Ruger Single Six Convertible.

Kel-Tec PMR-30 rt. side.jpg Marlin 983 rt.jpg Keltec PMR-30, Marlin 983, and the Single Six above in .22 Mag.

For pistol .45 ACP
For revolver .45 Colt with .44 special a close second
For rifle .308 with .30-06 a close second. .308 so much easier to reload. Steel and wood for delivery.

I really favor the 44 Magnum for these reasons...

1. The 44 Magnum can be loaded light for small game hunting with the right bullet, mid range or heavy for hunting big game - this makes the cartridge extremely versatile
2. The 44 Magnum is a handloader's cartridge, so if you enjoy handloading, it's very easy to handload due to being a straight walled revolver cartridge
3. The 44 Magnum works very well with a wide range of bullets (lead and jacketed) and powders
4. The 44 Magnum in the right handgun is extremely accurate and controllable out to 100 yards plus
5. You can load 44 Magnum, 44 Special or 44 Russian

Hope this helps...

Hmmmmmmmmmm.........tough choice and very thought provoking.

I've carried a .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk daily for well over fifteen years and a .45 Colt "Super" Blackhawk is one of my most fired revolvers. But I've probably sent more bullets down range from a .44 Magnum, and its a .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk that I've had afield most often. And, when distance gets a mite long, its a .44 Magnum.

So, I'd have to lean toward the .44 Magnum. Like these:

(Two on bottom right are .44 Specials.)
