I just over paid for primers

Back in the early days of madness, with the hazmat change and limit to one box, a guy was probably spending more than $60/k online, even at standard prices. Honestly, if I found primers locally at that price, I'd probably buy a box even though I'm not in a huge need for them right now. Certainly no higher than that, though.

$30.. to be able to load up 1000 rounds. I’d hardly call that overpaying and I think the market is going to settle on $50 for a while. If the politics start to swing in a more favorable direction for the gun community, you’ll see $40, then back to $30. But only after 2022.

9mm loaded rounds are going for more than double price right now, $21.95 per 50 last I looked. I wouldn’t feel bad about 1000 primers for $60. And I wouldn’t be surprised if things get worse with some governments/areas forcing more lock downs due to variant delta, capa, beta, etc. And more supply chain problems can pop up at any time. I ordered powder from MidwayUSA and it took almost 2 weeks because of a shortage of hazmat drivers. I’m hopeful we’re in the clear but NOTHING will surprise me at this point. So a few primers at “ok” pricing is no big deal and might be a smart move.

Fine by me; I'd love to see $60 primers at an LGS. I was desperately out of SR primers and paid the $89.99 for 1000 CCI41's at MidwayUSA a couple weeks back...came to over $100 with Hazmat and shipping. And I was glad to get them.

Ironically, a year ago, just as the primer run started and I hadn't seen any for awhile, the local LGS had a single box of BR-4 primers for $60. Thought that was outrageous and when I finally went to get them, somebody else beat me there.

Midway had them for $75 per 1K, Brownells for $85. I’m still not willing to pay over $50 per 1K yet as I’m still sitting good for now on my reserves

That's really the key...how long your reserves will carry you.

One of my shooting partners is reloading for himself and his son. We're action pistol competitors. He was very happy to pick up an additional 10k SPP, at $90/k, recently to bring his stash to 40k.

I'm starting to get worried as I'm getting close to my last 10k

Very true.

Large rifle primers are my weak spot. I'm not down to 10k yet, but I will be wanting to reload (see what I did there?) my stash when things loosen up.

If they do.

As I've stated before, I believe $50-60/K will be where prices settle when this is all done.

I'm at around 17K or 18K of SPP, but I don't compete and I also have about 5or 6k loaded so I won't be touching them for a while. I don't work a couple miles from a shooting range anymore, like I used to, so I'm not shooting near as much as I was.
When I get down to my last 10k I may start watching for them locally, but I'm no wheres near there yet.
So, I'll live off my fat until then, and may be by then things will have improved.

I stopped by the Gatorbait PassBro on the way back from the indoor range just to see if they had a few primers for sale to replace what I just shot. Nope. Nada. They haven’t seen a sleeve in two weeks - which is when I got five sleeves at $4.75 per. At $47.50/K they’re out of stock. Quite the bargain.
