And the list really grows when that pocket knife is a Swiss Army Knife. Two actually,a little one that has a blade specifically for item 15…………;)
 
Where I grew up not having a pocket knife was like going around with no pants. But after 911 and getting several pocketknives and a nail clipper taken away at TSA checkpoints, I quit carrying them.

Isn't that amazing how a few terrorists with utility knives disarmed a nation? I wonder if there isn't a lesson there somewhere.
 
I can't fly international with knives anywhere, anytime. Always had to be checked into luggage.

My scuba diving knife is literally a steak knife with the front half chopped off and rounded, so I can't stab with it. It's only good for line and strap cutting. That's the rules.

And one failed shoe bomber. Millions of us now have to take them off to get on an airplane. Amazing how that works but when it comes to dealing with a pandemic the government seems helpless.

Go to Ebay and search "TSA confiscated lot" and you will discover where your (and everyone elses!) forgotten knife ends up! I have bought a couple of these lots before and most of the items are cheap Chinese stuff but I've also got some nice keepers, all at a bargain price.

I work on the air side at airports all around the world. Once we had an issue with a plane at a gate at DFW. The maintenance hangers are on the opposite side of the airport.
The A&P mechanics had to load up their tools, drive around to the terminal, and go through security with everyone else. Ridiculous. Even pilots have to go through. I told a TSA guy if we can’t trust the pilots maybe we need to rethink this whole ‘security’ thing.
But - anyone dressed in a LE uniform could walk right around checkpoints.
 
The article doesn't mention about showing off one's latest addiction purchase. :p

Kinda, but not quite. TSA may collect them, but the knives (and everything else that isn't a hazardous chemical) become the airport authority property and they get sold all sorts of ways. Part of them make it into ebay. Another part makes to online sellers not ebay. Others head to regional flea markets. And some just get junked.

On that note, make note of the fact that we don't do polyticks at THR and other than the mechanics of TSA and knives, TSA topics tend to run to polyticks.

So, let us return to the original topic and leave the TSA in our rear view.
