they call it a trigger safety. Its not a "manual safety" which 99.9999% of firearm owners mean when they say "safety" Its a drop safety. #3 is for bounce, but #1 is to prevent the weigh of the trigger from setting it off. Obviously you can't have a manual safety on the trigger. Its just illogical. Thats why everyone, including Glock should stop calling it that.

I agree in spirit, but I'm pretty sure if they couldn't call it a safety, they wouldn't be able to import them, no?

ETA: I know they manufacture them in the US as well as Austria, but still, that safe action trigger is what made them importable, correct?

Unfortunately, I have been on THR long enough to remember that most all of these myths have been repeated here as gospel truth at one time or another. Fortunately, those who have presented them have been called out, and have either repented of their ways or gone on to other pastures.
The only reason I started the thread is because I'm seeing them pop up again, not so much here though I did see one not that long ago. Mostly I'm seeing them on other forums and in other venues.
Yes, it's pretty obvious. I was an NRA Instructor for a few years and I saw lots of guys just like him. Being an LEO does not make you an expert in firearms, trust me.
Agreed, just being an LEO doesn't make one an expert, being an LEO who trains other LEOs nationwide in specifically shotgun tactics for at least a decade I'd call an expert............

I watched Steve McQueen blast open car hoods and trunk lids with his 12 gauge pump on "The Getaway". Big myth! Believe me it doesn't happen, I tried it several times.
Ya gotta love Hollywood, who else can make guns, explosives and everything else do things they could never do in real life...........

From what i could find it looks like it. i would rather have them add a flip safety, but they don't seem to want to. While compliance has its point, its hard to imagine any sane person thinking a safety switch on the trigger makes sense. But if that what people want to think, okay I guess.... But I'm still not going to call pulling a trigger on a loaded gun while holstering a defect because he also pulled "the safety".

I watched the whooole thing waiting for some eye opening knowledge, didn't happen. The fact that he stated his credentials was in my opinion just saying he's not just some yahoo utuber. Almost everything he said was what I thought to be commonsense. I would agree with some of the comments about the trigger lever not being a safety, it just helps to prevent not prevent a ND. I just can't understand how people (especially LEO) shoot themselves. Maybe they just get complacent who knows. I honestly don't even use a gun for HD, I have other means. A 12G pump with bird shot would be my choice for HD if I ever did. Everyones living arrangement is different and sometimes buckshot or a slug is not a good choice of ammo. If you know how to shoot then bird shot will work just fine.

I learned a looooong time ago that common sense was anything but common...........

No, bird shot won't work just fine unless you are attacked by a sparrow.

Folks bird shot does not work for home defense. Listen to the name BIRD shot. If you are attacked by birds sure it works. But a drugged up 250 lb convict hell bent on getting you. #4 buck is the minimum. Bird shot makes nasty shallow wounds.

To each his/her own. #4-#6 bird shot will work fine for me. A 12g pump with an 18 1/2" barrel at a distance of 10'-15' with 5+1 and a full choke I will stop an attacker. If and most likely an attacker gets within 6' they will not survive the shots that come next. That's a lot of energy coming out of that muzzle. Knowing how to use what you have and not panic is the key. Like I said though, to each there own. Use what works for you and hope you won't have to.

What’s the difference between a myth and an opinion, just the number of people?
A myth (in this instance) is a lie/fallacy oft repeated, an opinion (conjecture) can be based either on a lie or the truth whether it's oft repeated or not. The fact that a myth is a lie is objective, opinion is subjective based on perception.

I think the higher the post count, the higher the chances of myths being repeated . Without them we would not have so much BS , that's a good thing in my opinion .

Well said .

I will concentrate on #2.

It is my number one make me cringe and walk out of a gun store, when I hear a salesman tell a customer (or even just agree with them) that you don't even have to aim a shotgun. Younger me would open my mouth and start arguments. Now I just walk out and never come back. You do need to aim and train with a shotgun. Pattern it if you don't know what the spread is. (Take a IPSC target or a piece of butcher paper, set it out to the maximum in-home distance you will be shooting it at, using the gun, ammo and choke you will be running for HD, and actually find out how much that shot will spread.) With my VR80 using Federal 00 or #4, it's about 4". That is NOT "It will hit everything" spread. And if it was, you aren't putting much shot on target.

As far as home defense is concerned any weapon you buy, you will have to practice with it to know how good it will work in your home.
A lot of new gun buyers buy a gun & take it home, set it in a drawer or leaned against the back wall of a closet And that's all they do with it.
If you buy a gun take it to the range with different kinds of ammo to see if you can get it to do what is needed at the distances inside your home.
If you bought a baseball bat try to slowly move through your house & look at what space it takes to swing this weapon. You will probably decide you need something else.

But, but, but shot shells contain billions and billions of tiny pellets that will fill the entire room with deadly shot.......... ;)

(The billions and billions was done in my best Carl Sagan impersonation.)

I often see the results of the "you don't even have to aim a shotgun" crowd in the hundreds of holes of the range ceiling. Saw one person try to do a rapid double blast with a pump 12ga. First shot went high and blew off the target holder and the second went very high and shot out the light above the shooting booth. He was swiftly escorted out.

He says "what ever goes up at 1500 fps is coming down at 1500 fps".

Ummmm...not on this planet.

He made some decent points....but I doubt many gun enthusiasts these days still hold to many (if any) of the myths he presented.

Mostly...I had a hard time watching the video because the guy acts like he had about 5 too many cups of coffee.

Oh well....if anyone gleaned anything from it.....that is good I suppose.
