Ever since I sold my old 10-8 heavy barrel, I've been keeping my eyes open for a 4" tapered barrel or a 2" snub Model 10.
Prices seem to be all over the place lately, mostly higher than I'd like to pay for examples that are rough overall.

I stumbled across this example a little over a week ago on gunbroker.
2" 10-5 that the serial dates 63-65. It was a little neglected, but was advertised as solid but with the single action not working. I figured worst case I'd bob the hammer and make it DAO. So I placed my bid and waited.
Ended up getting it for $370. Got it home and cleaned it up good (it was filthy) and looked over the internals.
Trigger and hammer surfaces looked good and unaltered, so at first I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Then I realized the left rear of the trigger spur was thicker than the right side, and contacted the frame before the hammer traveled far enough to cock. Filed a bit off the bottom rear of the hammer, and now the single action works like it's supposed to. Not sure if the hammer was replaced at some point or what the deal was, but it's fixed now.
I also threw on a set of Ahrends I had laying around. The finish is far from perfect, but there's a good amount of the beautiful old bluing left, and I love guns with character. I hope to get it out and and run some 158swc's through it soon. It was just too hot this weekend for me to mess with it.
There's just something about a K frame, and Model 10's in particular. They just have an elegance and simplicity to them that I love.

I may go back to the factory grips and add a T-grip, but I'm still undecided as the Ahrends do feel great.

Every m10 on GB I’ve seen gets into bidding wars after the timer runs out and they go way north of 500 bucks! I gave up trying to get one
That's been my experience too. I bid $400 on this one and let it run. I was pleasantly surprised when it ended and I won it for $370. I think the single action issues may have scared away some potential bidders. but I'm not complaining.

Although I'm probably one of the biggest
fans of Smith & Wesson Combat Masterpieces,
the M&P Model 10 is a very close second in
my estimation.

I appreciate the reason(s) for the
heavy barrel model but I lean toward
the standard barrel (the "pencil").
Even as a 4-inch the standard model
seems to handle and balance like
a snub nose for me. I like that.

With all the pretty guns I almost feel out of place posting a picture of mine

But the wear is honestly earned, as this is one of the smoothest and most accurate pistols I own.

I like the open back clamshell because I have short fingers and the ergonomics are better. Still, I added ladder tape for a gripper grip.

I'd rather have a gun with honest wear than a pristine safe queen. Blued guns with wear feathering through the bluing are gorgeous to me.

Congratulations to the OP. The 2" Model 10 is a very nice revolver.

Mine is the cousin to the OP's. Made in 61, IRRC. LE trade-in from somewhere. A place on Gunbroker went through a dozen or two some years back and I snagged one with damaged finish for cheap.

This one looks terrible, but it's a great shooter. It's easily my best shooting 2" revolver out of many. The trigger is extremely nice.

I know the OP will enjoy it. :)

Only thing better than an M&P/Model 10 is a Colt Official Police. I am waiting for my one LGS to get a 5 screw released by an estate so I can pick it up.
One of my grail guns is a round butt 2" M&P. I had one in a Dragnet playset in the 1950s.

I picked up a 10-8 a while back that came with 4 extra sets of grips. Played around with them, and found that one of the Pachmayr sets felt good in my hand. Not sure why the heavy barrel is needed in a .38 special, but if I ever need to pistol whip someone like in the old movies it will come in handy... lol. Very solid piece though. It's my first ever S&W, and I'm not disappointed. Very well made gun. I was looking for something simple. Haven't had a revolver in 20 years.

I’ve always liked the Model 10. I picked up the 2” from a friend for $350. Found the heavy barrel one in a pawn shop about 5 years ago for $250, it had a little play in the cylinder. My buddy Steve was a S&W Armorer and went through the heavy barrel model and toned it up for me.
The other one is a Victory Model that was reworked by Parker Hail.

I picked this Victory Model up for $180 and cleaned it up.

A set of proper grips and a lanyard loop got it to looking like it should.

Not long after I picked up the Victory Model, I stumbled across another Victory Model, one I had been looking for for some time. It’s a US Navy Model. Ended up only paying $440 OTD.

I ended up finding a nice set of grips for the heavy barrel M10

Howdy

Hard for me to decide whether I like four inch barrels or six inch barrels better. I don't much care for bull barrels, I much prefer a tapered barrel.

At the top of this photo is a 38 Military and Police (sometimes known as a pre-model 10.) This one shipped in 1934. Below it is a Model 10-5 that shipped somewhere around 1964. Best deal I ever got on a Smith, $125 out the door. Of course that was about 20 years ago. I have always assumed the number 54 stamped on the frame above the trigger was a police armorer's rack number.

Here is another favorite, a 38 M&P with round butt that shipped in 1939. I really like the hard rubber grips on this one.

Looks great as far as I can tell from your photos! The Ahrends grips are a nice addition. The only K frame I currently have is a WWII M&P model that was a government issued gun that went to arming security officers guarding banks, defense factories, and non-military installations. And even if I could change the barrel on it, I wouldn't do it because I like the way the gun looks now with it's original length barrel and matte blue finish.
