I just saw one of those spam emails that was saying stuff about how Biden was going to ban Russian steel case. To be honest, I didn’t trust the source, but it got me thinking. If Russian steel case is banned then are there any other countries that still make cheap steel case ammo?
Tula- Russian
Wolf-Russian
Anything barnaul- Russian
Monarch is barnaul- Russian
Red army standard- Russian
The Winchester steel case stuff made in USA never seemed cheap enough to get over reloadable brass so I never got it.
I know blazer makes cheap aluminum case 9mm, but for the purposes of this post I’m mostly thinking of 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r
Which I can’t really picture doing high volume shooting with brass.

Like we've all said before it will create an opening for others to step in and start making their own steel ammo. Then when things change and Russian ammo is importable again the competition will be tough, prices will go down.

But, probably not a bad idea to buy what steel case you can if you can find it.

Remember Nord Stream II?
Our "President" has done nothing critical against the completion of the Russian gas pipeline through the Baltic to Germany (irony - despite closing the US' Trans Canada Project, and many thousands of jobs). His sanctions probably won't stop it.

That notice by the State Dept. about guns, ammo, advanced weapons is just a bunch of tough-sounding Words (as usual), unless he finds both the intellectual capabilities --plus, If he can remember --and “courage” to take action.

Hornady makes a 123gr SST 7.62x39 load and Privi Partizan makes a 123gr SP load so there are options for non Russian ammo but it's a lot more expensive.

Walkingfunk:

It is very plausible, and after Obama sanctioned some Russian tycoons, partjy in order to ban Further importation of Saiga’s (“Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing”) “AK” rifles and semi-auto shotguns, a next step never seemed far fetched.

But a gradual program (way back Then) of import duties and tariffs on ammo one day could accumulate, achieving some of Sleepy’s ill-informed (if understood And remembered) Goals….. if the House and Senate wanted to waste time on this.

After ‘08 I slowly invested in a large reserve of imported 7.62x39, mostly because of the possibilities. Back then, the SKS was my primary fun gun, and it's descendent is now my only simple-fun rifle.

The ban is a big deal even if you never shot a single round of steel case or comblock anything. Guess what the cheapest option has been for 223, 9mm, etc. for quite a while? A major source of supply disappearing from an already stretched market will result in panic chaos.

Yea so I ordered a 1000 rounds of 9mm makarov like 2 days ago off of ammoboard.com and they probably had at least 70 more 1000 round orders available. I just checked and they're no longer on their website. Either someone bought it all or they're going to relist it for more money.

The only caliber I can think of that will be without is the 5.45x39. Hornady is the only one that makes it in the us & I think they get their cases from overseas. You can’t reload them without paying for the extremely expensive dies & reforming the brass yourself.

For those that think this is going to just affect Russian calibers like 7.62x39mm, I feel sorry for you.

Russia imports some 40-45% of the US ammo supply and that supply just got obliterated with one stroke of the pen.

The ammo shortage/panic has just begun.

It does not appear to be a ban but may render Russian steel case so expensive as to be a de facto ban.
How is it not a ban?

“New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial.”
