Am looking at buying a Hi Point Carbine in 40 S&W. I've been trying to locate a Keltec Sub2000 in 40 cal for months, to no avail. It seems that the vast majority manufactured are 9mm so when the 40 becomes available the stores barely get them unpacked. One store where I live called several patrons who had expressed interest and 1 happened to be in the store at the time. The weapon never even left the box before going out the door.
The Hi Point comes w/ a recommendation from a range master and an owner both of whom I know. Any opinions or observations would be appreciated

I have an older Hi Point 4095 40 S&W carbine (planet of the apes stock) and it has been 100% reliable and is quite accurate. There are two negative aspects on the Hi Point carbines. 1 they are ugly as sin and 2 they are limited to 10 round singe stack magazines. Other than that , they are good to go. I think I paid $175 for mine NIB back in 2006.

There are extended mags that work, buddy has a couple 20 rounders that feed and function fine, gonna try the 40drum soon too for giggles.

I had one in 45acp. Zero complaints with it, other than its homely, at best, looks. But a 45acp carbine just didn’t do anything for me. Moved it on. 40 S&W would be better. 10mm is very very interesting of course.

If I was to choose I would take the KT S2K but, the High Point is a great deal for what they cost. If you want a S2K in .40 any FFL can get you one off the auction. All a matter of what you are willing to pay since it will be a little more by the time you pay the shipping and transfer cost. KT does not make nearly as many of these in .40 because the 9mm version sells far better. Couple of them right now and they will pop up there all the time.

Are there any reasons you want a .40s&w instead of 9mm? Perhaps one in 9mm could fit your needs.

Or if you can find them buy one in 9mm, 10mm, 40, and 45. Heck I believe they have one in .380 not sure. Now if they could make one in 41 mag.

Basic answer, I have a Glock 24 Compensated 40, a Gen 4 in 10mm, 2 Sigs, both in 40 S&W. 2 sets of 40 S&W Bullet molds, My press is set up for 40 S&W. I have 5,000 rounds of 40 S&W, 5000 in 10 MM, 5000 empty brass in 40 S&W 2 bricks each of Sm and Lg Pistol primers, and I just really don't like 9mm.

That makes perfect sense to me. I don't purchase 40 S&W because I try to limit the number of calibers that I shoot to only five .22lr, 9mm, 45acp, 556 and 300BO. I had it whittled down to four but suppressing a 300BO AR pistol called my name.

I got a 9mm back before anyone knew about HiPoint. It's still accurate enough to hit MOA at 100 yds.
I just wish it was a 10mm.

I've really thought about getting one of their carbines and a High Tower Armory bullpup kit. Hard to justify spending $500 total on a dressed up Hi Point, but it would be a really cool setup.
That's what I have (in 9mm) and the only con I can say is that the high-cap mags are kinda "bent" (ha ha). But they work. And yes, it's a fun shooter.

I have the highpoint 9mm and put it in the bull pup kit , and threw an inexpensive red dot on it , great little rifle , accurate , and has 20 round mags ! just wish they made a drum for 9mm

200% worth it! I barely shot my 995ts before I added the HTA kit, now I take it to the range all the time. The only con is it makes the trigger pull even worse, my gauge goes up to about 8.5 lbs and the pull is a tad heavier than that. I do have an MCarbo trigger spring sitting on my workbench I've been meaning to install, not sure how much it'll actually help.

They are the epitome of cheap and cheerful.

I like shooting them, just don't like the weight of them, so I went with a Keltec Sub-2K for my 9mm blowback blasting fun. But if I was shooting 40s, I would definitely prefer the Hi-Point. 40s out of the Sub 2K start to sting a bit.

Garand Thumb had a not so flattering review recently on youtube. I've never owned or handled one so I have no personal experience but I'd be leery.

It's pretty cool, I'd love to shoot one cuz now I'm really curious but it's hard to justify spending the same on a chassis kit as you spend on what is the most notoriously inexpensive firearm on the market, especially when for just a few more bucks you can get a Ruger PCC or similar.
