A member here made a comment in another thread a while back that gave me the idea for this thread. His comment was, "the S&W M&P is my favorite striker fired pistol." or something very similar. So my question is what is your favorite striker fired pistol & why. I am just as interested in why it is your favorite as I am in what is your favorite.

I'll bite. I prefer DA/SA, hammer fired pistols but I do own one striker fired pistol. I chose the Springfield XD/XDm line of pistols mostly due to the fact that they have a grip safety.

I own mostly Glocks but also have Walther PPQ’s and Springfield Armory XDm striker fired guns. I’ve also shot a fair number of rounds through Sig P320’s, HK VP9’s, M&P Gen 1’s, and Canik’s.

I like them all, mostly. Nothing bad to say about any and I can shoot them all pretty well.

Walther PPQ is, for me, the best out of the box.

XDm’s with a Powder River Precision trigger are dang close.

But my general use gun of choice is a Glock. The 19 Gen 5 MOS would be the one I’d keep if I had to get rid of all but one, including the Walther and SA.

I like my red dots. I can carry the Glock easy. I can hit targets well with it. It has never let me down.

ETA: All that said…if I were buying my first striker fired pistol today, I would probably buy the Walther PDP Compact. Optics ready, great trigger, nice size for my needs.

Favorite Striker Fired Pistol?

Gen3 Glock 22/23 with KKM/BCA/Lone Wolf/Tactical Kinetics 40-9 conversion barrels and factory/Magpul magazines.
  • I like pistols that hit where I am pointing and I dislike pistols that hit away from point of aim.
  • I like pistols that go "bang" when I pull the trigger and I don't like pistols that don't go "bang".
  • I enjoy pistols that allow me to use 40-9 conversion barrels for cheaper 9mm practice.
  • I prefer pistols that use reliable magazines that are durable and less prone to feeding issues.
  • I appreciate surface hardening treated barrel/slide pistols that will maintain accuracy over hundreds of thousands of rounds instead of rifling losing accuracy after 10,000 rounds.
  • I love pistols that are easy to field strip and clean/maintain, especially without needing tools.
  • I like pistols with inexpensive consumable replacement parts with good aftermarket support
  • I prefer pistols I can shoot matches also due to shorter trigger reset for faster follow up shots

Glock Gen 4 is my favorite striker fired design.

Why? Reliability, aftermarket support, and affordability are the primary reasons. But the reversible mag release and the modular grip design helped me get over the hump and learn to like it. There are pistols that did feel better to me, but Glocks make the most sense for my purposes (SD and HD). Now it's what I'm most comfortable with. They went from feeling like a 2X4, to fitting like a glove. And all it took was dedication.

Ditto. The only striker pistol I've ever owned was a Shield. I like it and have no immediate plans to sell or trade it up...but for future purchases I'll maintain hammer-fire designs predominantly.
I was thinking about a PX4 in 45ACP.

The very day I bought my Shield I handled an XD compact and a PX4 in 9mm. They were both a close shave in winning 1st choice. If I hadn't got the shield for $257 brand new in box it probably would have been one of the others.

I currently have three striker fired pistols: Grand Power Q100, Walther P99 AS and Taurus G3. My favorite to shoot at the range is hands down the Grand Power Q100 and, as a fun pistol, I would choose it over all the striker fired guns I've tried in the last 14 years. However, if I had to choose a single pistol for range, self defense and home defense, it would be the Walther P99 AS. If I had to choose another striker fired pistol from the ones I don't have but I have tried, it would be the Glock 17 Gen3.

The .40 5" M&P 2.0 is my first polymer since the early 80's when back then I decided polymer had no merits for me that dozens of pistols did most everything better.

The M&P (after grinding off the rail) gives me 16 rds of 40 in a similar weight as my 12 rd last EDC Beretta 96D did.

S&W did this one right

I'm a .45 1911 fan myself but I do have a Gen 2 G19 that I have had since they came out that shoots lights out and functions well. I did recently pickup a 365xl to see what all the craze was about but the jury is still out on it...

Favorite is Glock. I've tried pretty much all the competition, and owned most of them for a time. Glocks just work for me, trigger, grip, etc.

Favorite Glock is the Gen 5 19 with medium beavertail. Runner up is the Gen 4 21.

Ruger SR series is my favorite. I'm a fan of hammer fired, 1911, CZ et al, but the SR9, SR40, SR45, SR9c, any one of them are slim in the hand, soft recoiling, (well the SR40 is a little snappier than the others) and for me are natural pointers. Admittedly, I have not shot the M&P's, but have shot Glocks a plenty.

If I had to keep only one it would be Glock. Although I really like my M&P's and Sig M17. You can make very convincing arguments in favor of either Smith or Sig. At least on paper. But years of trust and familiarity force me to reach for Glock 1st if I hear a bump in the night.

I have always liked guns and have bought several over the years. I was lucky to work in the firearms section of a large State Crime Lab where I had access to just about every handgun that has been on the market since the 70’s.

The back wall of the gun vault is full of handguns. This included just about every striker fire gun made through the 90’s. New guns were being added all the time.
My job was shooting evidence guns for my department and matching them to shootings. In the seven years of working in the lab, I fired over 8,000 guns, which covered just about every striker fire handgun on the market.
I also own a variety of different striker fire handgun. And carried Glocks as duty weapons. Here are some of the striker fire handguns that I own, I’ve added a few more after this pic was taken.
I do like Glocks, have since the day I first shot one. When the M&P came out, I got to shoot a few that came through evidence. I wanted a new striker fire pistols chambered in 45 Auto at the time and found the M&P fit me better then others. I liked the fact that the slide was stainless steel and that S&W had spent approximately $40,000 in designing the grip frame. It feels really good in my hands. I later added a 9mm M&P and when the M2.0 came out, I bought the FDE model with the 5 inch barrel.

Out of the Glocks I really like my G45, even better then the 19X, but my favorite striker fire pistols is the M&P. It just has that better feel and I can shoot it a little better then my Glocks.

Current favorite is a Glock 23 Gen 2. Why? Compact, mag capacity and substantial cartridge stopping power.

I only own one, and it's not my favorite. And ironically, my favorite striker fired pistol is one I've repeatedly expressed my (somewhat) dislike of on THR. I own a PT145, which is a good gun, but the G19 is my favorite. I would like to get my hands on a PSA Dagger, though the S&W-like articulated trigger doesn't appeal to me.
