I've been wanting a Staccato for a while now and came across a Staccato P on Saturday at a LGS. I was there towards the end of the day, with the dealer closing soon. As we wrapped things up I noticed there was only one magazine included with the gun. I asked the dealer about the additional magazines and he grabbed a second one from a case from another gun, telling me that's all that came with the gun, he was closing and we had to leave. His behavior was questionable. I didn't confront him but question why he tried sending me out the door with one magazine when he claimed two came with the gun.

I confirmed with Staccato today that they send two 17 round and one 20 round magazine with each gun, which is what their web site states. I called the dealer back and he's insisting they only sent two magazines. I called Staccato back and let them know that I didn't believe the dealer and asked how we should handle this. Knowing that the dealer almost certainly shorted me the magazine, they didn't hesitate to replace the missing magazine and are shipping one to me.

I had the chance to shoot it Saturday and it's fantastic. Between the quality of the gun and them making right a situation a LGS created I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of their guns. Having other LGS' in the area, I'm steering clear of this one going forward.

You're gonna tell us about it without showing us a picture or ten?
 
You always have to go online and make sure how many mags things come with. Especially the high end Guns. Isn't that mag over $100. CZ mags are $50 for my TS2.

This is another reason why I like my slightly pricier store. I never have to worry about such.

They're $70. As I mentioned there are other LGS' in the area I've dealt with before who don't do these things. For $70 the LGS I went to Saturday lost a customer. Not too smart.
 
Everybody should shoot a Staccato P. That LGS who shorted you a magazine is a scumbag, since those magazines are expensive, hard to find, and Staccato 2011 magazines are not interchangeable like regular 1911 magazines.
 
Was it dam road? I've been there once won't darken that door again.

You simply won't find a better shop than Top Pack in sun prairie.
 
Kinda hoping I never have to send any of my STIs to the new 'Staccato' but seeing this makes me feel a little better. I wouldn't necessarily blame the shop, I've seen guns come in missing a mag before.. But, if they did take did short you..I wouldn't bother with them anymore. If you go back, check if they have a bunch of mags for sale and look for it. Call em out if you find it.

I thought about the fact that maybe he was shorted, but he initially tried to get me out the door with only one mag. He only gave me a second mag when I caught this. As I mentioned, if his claim that he received two mags was true, why only give me one until caught? I can forgive mistakes. I've made my share of them. What he did wasn't a mistake. If it was Staccato's mistake, which I believe is highly unlikely, they immediately offered a replacement even after we discussed the fact that I was sure the dealer shorted me. At worse they dropped the ball and didn't ship the correct number of mags but corrected that. That's good customer service. At best, which is what I'm sure is the case, they sent me a mag at their cost knowing what the dealer did. That's commendable.

After. He ran the background check, I paid for it and he put the gun and one mag in the case. I then opened the case to check for the other mags. Lesson learned. Next gun I buy, I’m checking to make sure everything is there before I pay. He was, however, adamant that it only comes with 2 mags, even when I spoke to him today.

Good on Staccato, poor on the dealer. There was a shop in Sun Prairie I used to frequent (because it was the only shop around at the time, especially that sold hand guns) that was pretty shady.

Though, I think the old grumpy guy behind the counter retired or passed on by now.
 
It is amazing how a customer can be won or lost on a magazine. Some years ago I bought a new hunting rifle that had a box mag. I pulled the mag out to clear the weapon and put it on the counter. I went through the sale, 4473, and walked out with the rifle about half hour later. With the magazine still on the table. By the time I got home I realized I left the mag and called the store. He already had it in a box, with my address from the 4473, in his outgoing mail box. I shopped there for years after until he closed.

One thing I noticed during the pandemic is magazines will get swapped around firearms to sweeten a deal. Or to make up for missing ones. A Glock 19 that comes into a shop used with 1 mag may be sold with a another taken from a new box. In some cases it fills in magazines that are hard to find. But the owner being stubborn about 2 instead of 3 is out the window.

Agreed. I'll add that the issue extends beyond a magazine. It's a loss of trust in the person due to his dishonesty. If I can go to a number of other LGS' in the area who have been honest versus one who hasn't been, I don't know why I'd buy from someone who I don't trust.

Very true. Yeah, that's ridiculous. There is a shop near me that'll take a used gun in trade, sell it with one mag, and sell the rest separately.
 
I second the thumbs up for the folks at Staccato. I prefer their old discontinued single stack 1911s. Awhile back, I got a really nice Elektra 9mm in black. These were marketed toward the ladies & came with grips in a few different colors ( red, blue, pink, purple & black ). Not sure what you'd call the swirl pattern of these grips. but I was not a big fan. Wanted to find wood STI grips from an ESCORT, but no luck. I live about 3 miles from Staccato ( STI ), so drove over and asked if they might have any wood ESCORT grips still around. The guy leaves & comes back with 3 sets of grips. Another black set like I already have, but with a better swirl pattern, a red set, which looks pretty good on the gun with the black roll marks, and the wood grips I was really wanting. So I'm looking them over, trying to decide which set(s) I might want to keep, and I ask how much for each different set. He just says no charge, keep them all. I was floored. Came back the next day with a gift card to a local favorite eatery for that man. Below is same pistol sporting the different grips.

Is it just me or are the grips on these pistols a lot bigger than "usual" (for a pistol having a double-stack magazine). On the photos provided, they look positively HUGE-and I've got pretty big paws.
 
As an STI Trojan owner, I have to say that the changes at STI (now Staccato) over the past few years have been interesting and frustrating at the same time. It’s frustrating that they’ve dropped 1911 production, since I’d like to be able to get a .45 ACP STI Trojan to go along with my 9mm Trojan, one of the best 9mm range guns that I own.

They're out there. Just have to get lucky. I think this fellow is a little too proud of his. But what do I know?

Sti's (Staccato) are great guns. I owned several of them (Sti Edge, Tactical, Trojan and Executive) and shot them for USPSA limited. It's sort of funny that you buy a gun for $2000 and it needs a trigger job to be a viable competition pistol.

Here is an StI Edge .40 I bought used and then sent out for for some custom work: Slide lightening, trigger job, finish work, grip stippling and flat trigger install. No longer have it as I have not been shootin USPSA.
