Firearms
Only customers holding a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and federal, state, or local government agencies may ship firearms with FedEx. Customers holding an FFL must enter into an approved FedEx Firearms Shipping Compliance Agreement before shipping any firearms with FedEx. For more information, contact your FedEx account executive. On behalf of customers holding an FFL who enter into an approved FedEx Firearms Shipping Compliance Agreement and federal, state, or local government agencies, FedEx Express will transport and deliver firearms, antique firearms, and replica firearms, all as defined by the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, as well as muzzleloaders and black powder firearms (collectively “firearms”). Shipments containing firearms must be sent with the Adult Signature Required Delivery Signature Option. FedEx Express will transport ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Dangerous Goods section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as dangerous goods. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.

Just dropped them completely.

And that's me being nice about it. I wonder if they're woke?
I don't think being woke has anything to do with it. But from the increasing number of complete idiots shipping to me, I'm about to stop accepting shipments from nonlicensees.

Or if the ATF is coming down on them because their Memphis Tennessee hub steals thousands of firearms every year?
:scrutiny: Where are you getting this from? While I have no doubt that there are thefts at any carrier, "thousands of firearms a year"? Malarkey.

FedX is a terrible shipping company.
FedEx is no worse than USPS or UPS.

I just called Ruger this afternoon about sending in a pistol for repair. They offered me FedEx or UPS. I chose UPS because they’ll come get it.
CS rep said I’d have to take it to a “FedEx owned shipping center that accepts hazardous goods” if I chose FedEx.

I don't know about thousands per year, but a quick search (Google FedEx Memphis gun thefts) shows hundreds at time from UPS, ConWay, FedEx.

Oct 2, 2018 "Two Charged In Theft Of Nearly 370 Guns From Memphis UPS Facility"
CBS Chicago: "One Chicago man is in federal custody, and another is on the run, after more than 350 firearms were stolen from a UPS distribution center in Memphis, and later turned up in south suburban Midlothian"

Jul 14, 2016 "WREG Investigation finds guns being stolen from cargo shipping companies"
Channel 3 News Memphis: "[2014] a mis-delivered pallet of Colt 45 handguns shipped through Con-Way finally reached their correct destination. Many of the guns were missing, but ATF won’t say how many." Con-Way refused to talk to WREG3. "It also happens at FedEx." Glocks to an FFL intended for transfer to LE and FFLs disappeared. WREG3: "FedEx declined to talk with us too."

Jul 17, 2016 "Gun Theft A Concern In Memphis" Summary by Insurance Marine News

We at my p/t job have stopped using UPS ad have 31 open claims with FedEx.
Some of their distribution centers are overrun with theft and the drivers are no better.

Well, in my experience FedEx sucks anyway, I already avoid them when possible. I’ve had better luck with UPS, not that they are great or anything, just better… again in my experience.

just last month I had delivery secluded for the 2nd and I think I got if on the 17th or 18th.

That violates the UPS tariff:
Getting Your Firearm Shipment to UPS
Firearms (including handguns) may be shipped only through a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account using various UPS pickup services, or through a UPS Customer Center (counters at UPS operational facilities). Note: Firearms (including handguns) are not accepted for shipment via UPS Drop Boxes or UPS On-Call Pickup®, and may not be tendered to or dropped off at locations of The UPS Store®, any third party retailer, or any UPS Access Point™ location.

CS rep is an idiot.

Fedex in my area is terrible. I ordered some manganese phosphate from Brownell's to keep in stock. The box was so beat, half the chemical was gone and I had to get a replacement bottle sent. They weren't on my consideration list for a carrier when/if I get my 07.

I figure the change in FedEx policy is equal parts wanting to avoid controversy and hoping to help solve internal problems... and all of it driven by lawyers internally.... The catch phrase regarding firearms, and everything surrounding them for any company (or government agency...) is simply liability...

All of this I'm sure would make anyone in a third world country laugh and shake their heads in my opinion...

That is the way I do it also , UPS is easy to deal with . They pick it up and bring it back, No FFL involved on my end . I live out in the sticks , saves me time and money by having the driver pick it up .

FedEx was one of the most reliable shipping companies a couple decades ago. It is now one of the least reliable. I say that based on my experience and what I hear from people that ship much more freight than I do.
Since the pandemic it has become even worse. Like every other industry, shipping companies can't hire enough help.

Quit Fedex since they are really anti gun anyway. They have their hubs posted with 30.06 signs and I don't patronize places such as these. I use my UPS hub with no issues as long as I have the the FFL info on the label when I drop them off...

I just found out that I can now only get real black powder shipped by FedEx. None of the other shipping firms will handle it any more. FedEx is notoriously unreliable in my area, and I can foresee the time when even FedEx will no longer ship Black Powder. BP is almost impossible to find locally due to the storage requirements, so most of my BP is from mail order, but for how much longer I don't know.

How is this “violating the UPS tariff”? Ruger is scheduling the pickup. Not me.
Note: Firearms (including handguns) are not accepted for shipment via UPS Drop Boxes or UPS On-Call Pickup®,

Whether Ruger scheduled the pickup is immaterial.

UPS On-Call Pickup would be if I originated a shipment from my residence.

UPS Authorized Return Service would be if a UPS account holder such as Ruger issued instruction to pickup a package from my private non UPS account residence. I didn't see anything prohibiting this, did I overlook it?

"On call" is ANYONE calling or scheduling a one time pickup as opposed to those accounts that have a daily scheduled pickup.

I messed up my post regarding shipping real black powder. FedEx will no longer ship black powder. Only way is by UPS. for how long who knows.

Back to the OP statement, not sure if I misread the initial comment....... I dropped a pistol off at FedEx to ship to Sig last week - no problems. I'm not an FFL and while my wife says I'm fat, I'm still one of the little people.
