Did just that yesterday.

Ive been taking my dad up to shoot at longer and longer distances over the last month or two.

Hes purchased his own rifle and raided my stuff to equip it, been watching YouTube for tips and tricks, and we've been discussing shooting "long" range (For which my experience is limited at best, and he's pretty well exhausted what help I can give).

He doesn't really have a grasp of how the ballistic app on his phone works, so we're still using mine, but otherwise he's pretty self-sufficient in terms of setting up and making a shot now.

So.....now we're just working on shooting.

Neither of us is any good at gauging wind....I need to put out some little flags also, a theres a noticeable swirl in the bowl and the wind will change direction from gust to gust. Most of the misses we had were trying to figure out the new wind hold.
My gun wears a MIL scope and his has a MOA, so I didn't try to measure his misses, but Strelok pretty well called the vertical correction, tho we were consistently low so were holding top 1/2 of the plate.....still most of our misses were off left or right.

anyway fun day mostly watching him bang away.

oh we spent about 40rnds trying to hit with his AR, and neither of us managed to actually catch the plate, but 2 rounds when thru the 2x4 holder......that was an exercise in frustration......

loaded up....light day only 5 rifles (2 muzzleloaders that needed sighting for this upcoming weekend)

That smile says it all , priceless . You are a good Son ! I shoot/hunt with my boys ,some of my fondest memories . I really enjoy your threads about getting Dad out there to shoot , thanks for sharing your range trips .

Beautiful as usual up on the saddle!

It looks like you’ve got him hooked on long range shooting, you may need to conjure up more ammo to keep him satisfied ;).

Glad to see you both having such a good time:thumbup:. It makes me wish I was living closer to my Dad so we could do the same. :(

Stay safe.

Great pics; love the one of your dad with the Bergara. I like the range, too! Work has kept me from the range for too long.

I got to the range last Monday, but indoors with old military revolvers (Swiss and Soviet):

Shooting the handfuns is on the list for us too.
Those revolvers look like they would be a blast lol, i like the old wierdish ones.

That area were shooting in is at about 8500' theres a fair bit of scrub upto about there, then another 500' above or so it goes to bare rocks. I like shooting there because its easy access, but the farther around the mountain you go the more rhe terrain and scenery changes.
Conditions change awful quick too lol.

Ive gotta say I'm really enjoying getting to hang out with my dad and go on this adventure with him.
We didn't/dont share all that many interests so untill fairly recently we didnt really "hangout"

20210702_192506.jpg cool that you get to shoot with your dad, I missed that opportunity. A friend told me recently that long range success is sometimes knowing when not to shoot. Wind has cycles like the waves, predominant and secondary, get a flag and time the cycles. Oh yeah here's a wind chart givin to me by short range WR holder Rick Graham

Thanks guys!

It's wonderful seeing your dad love his rifle, he needs to start thinking what next at this rate he'll have that barrel shot out lol.
Hes thrilled with it so far, we were up helping a guy I know with his ar today and harassed for not putting his gun in the truck........then he shot all the 9s I had out of my 9mm rifle/shotgun thing :D

We will probably stay with the CM, tho we might go to a slightly heavier profile barrel.....If anything I might push him to a 6Creed, or something similar, but Id prefer to keep the bullet weight up a bit in case he wants to shoot deer or other larger stuff with it.

Don't have enough components left to play with.
If you shoot anything I do, ill kick you some components if I've got them lol.

Sps had some 140 rdf for 27 something, a 223 would be nice for our there when you really don't need to hit much just have fun.

I'll go look, I might as well stock up when they are available.

Well see how this 1-8 twist 22-250AI I'm building for Dell turns out, might do something similar.

That is AWESOME.

I couldn’t make hits at 650 yards with a forward air controller and the words fire for effect. :(
We can't make hits on demand that far out, but it's still fun and we're getting better!
