The title is clear enough I think ... one rifle to rule them all.

Rifle season is almost here in MT. Last year I shot three big critters and one smaller one using a Tikka T3 TAC chambered in .300 Win Mag (Federal Trophy Copper 180gr) with no runners but more bloodshot meat than I'd like, so this year I'll be using this custom Kimber chambered in .308 Win. It'll shoot Federal Trophy Copper 150gr and 165gr ammunition into 5-shot sub 5/8" groups and a Barnes LRX 175gr hand load into 1/2" or better groups.

With 5+1 rounds of Federal Trophy Copper 150gr the entire package as shown below is under 10lb which is good in my book. A 10-round magazine loaded to capacity will put it just over 10lb.

Easy to carry, easy to shoot, this rifle should be perfect for this hunting season. The only things that would significantly improve this rifle would be a Tikka or Sako action and a two-stage trigger. :D

Kimber 84M custom action
Proof 24" barrel
AG Composites carbon fiber stock
CDI Precison custom bottom metal
MAGPUL PMAG 5 7.62 AC
TriggerTech trigger
SilencerCo Omega suppressor
ASR brake and adapter
MAGPUL MS1 QDM sling
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50mm F1
Nightforce Ultralight rings
EGW 30 MOA rail

Easy Browning Hunter Long range 6.5 PRC*

*Next year it will have a TBAC ULTRA 7 can on it!

Nice. How about a photo? I'm looking forward to getting TBAC ULTRA-9 and ULTRA-7 suppressors next year. If my AAC Mk13-SD is back from ECCO Machine in time I might switch out the Omega. The Mk13 has a Ti tube and is lighter than the Omega. Not a big deal though.

what's the overall weight on that rifle? If i was rocking that far I'd have to guess my bergara b14 hunter in 30-06 but i havnt actually gotten it to the range. For security i know my 1917 gewher 98 can shoot sub moa with hornady american whitetail but i havn't seen how itd do with any bonded or monolithic bullets.

Very nice! I've shot a few Brownings, never owned one but have always liked them. I shot a Hell's Canyon a few years ago at the Media Day event in LV and liked it for sure.

At one time people managed to kill animals with flintlocks. Somehow the Indians managed to survive using spears and bows. Today you need to stick together a few thousand dollars worth of gadgets to do it. 600 yard shots? You would have to be a really lousy hunter if that is as close as you can get. It must be a city guy thing.

Yep, I figured it'd just be a matter of time before some small brained, know-it-all, tough guy troll showed up. If you don't like the idea of real-world hunting where getting close isn't always an option you're always free to enjoy your flintlock, bow or rock. Knock yourself out ... literally!

I think the proper description is smooth brain.

Decisions, decisions... Funny that I looking over my rifles now and trying to decide. On the family land in the piney woods it will be either a my .30-06 Mossberg 4x4 Bolt action, .30-30 Marlin 336, or my .308 PA10.

If I get a chance to hunt some draw hunts with longer ranges my Sako L691 in 300 Wby may get the nod.

I'm not good enough for 600. I've shot that far at targets enough to know that I'm not ready to shoot a game that far, at least not yet, maybe with more practice. I do plan to hunt in Colorado for elk this fall so I might well see a shootable elk at that range. Elk are a lot bigger, with a bigger kill zone than deer so I might pull the trigger at 400 if everything feels right and there is no wind.

But I'd also take a 308. I have 3 to choose from and the Winchester 70 EW would be my 1st choice. I have a load of 165 gr Accubonds that I feel good about. Same rifle I carried in 2018 when I was there, and the one I usually choose here in GA. I also have a Tikka CTR that is a touch more accurate, but it doesn't particularly like the Accubond's.

Why is your scope so far forward?

That’s a scout scope - extended eye relief to allow it to be forward mounted, offering less obstruction of the feed/ejection port (irrelevant in a DBM bottom feeder like the Ruger), and offering less obstruction of the field of view. A Cooper-ism which has largely been disproven, but remains to have a devout, cult like following.

I just bought a Christensen Arms Mesa in a 6.5 creed. Many will say that’s not enough but I believe differently. I have several factory loads that my rifle likes, but Berger 156 grain EOL Elite hunter is what I’d use on elk. Wouldn’t go to 600, probably 400-500 though. Not sure why you need 600. Get closer
