when looking at them the other day, i found one is a a new in the box blue 7.5 non adjustable model, it will go with my SS 7.5 non adjustable model.

Shot some black powder last weekend & the ROA was gong worthy at 50 yards & I think they clean up better that a modern smokeless revolver.

I recently replaced the nipples as I was getting a few hang/misfires & need to get it back out to the range to see if they make a difference or if was a percussion cap issue. Here’s the original photo & one with the Hogue grips that fit my hand much better.

You might try Ebay for some Taylor extended grips for Ruger Black hawk or Old Army, wood and extended like your Hogue. They do require a bit of fitting.

Furthermore,
Any modifications to a black powder pistol to make it a modern weapon would immediately subject to any and all laws concerning modern weapons. Even if you build your own from scratch it is subject to modern weapon laws so I don't see the benefit to converting one myself unless you just want the look of the BP revolver.

The NICs check is a form of registration, supposed to be destroyed after a few yrs, but with computers, they are registered forever....

That form stays with the seller. Not a federal registration.

A trio of Old Armies. The blued is an 81 the two stainless late 90’s. The conversion cylinder is 45ACP and is interchangeable with either of the three. A testament to Rugers quality control. Adjustable sights on all. A forth in stainless permanently fitted out with 45C cylinder and Belt Mountain base pin and base pin retainer stays at the southern home. Shooters all.

Sorry to say local LGS owner said feds recently scanned all his 4473's going back decades. This was in conjunction with being robbed and took days to scan them all. Not sure what happens to NICS checks info. The question begs how long it would take to crosscheck 4473s with credit card purchases at pot shops?

I have two Ruger Old Armys-one in blue with a brass frame and one ing stainless. Both are essentially A.N.I.B. I am "working" on a third (5 1/2" barrel in polished stainless with the non-adjustible "receiver groove" in lieu of sights (also N.I.B.). It is my intent to have them all "papered" by Ruger. I will post pictures as soon as I get my I-phone to "speak" to my Apple desktop!

I’ve been a member for a while now but I thought I’d post my latest Super Old Army.
I have a few in stainless and blue, have my eyes open for a 5.5” fixed sight to convert. The dragoon grip is the only one for me…

I received my first Old Army in 1997 when I was 17; blue with fixed sights. My dad bought it for me at K Mart in Anchorage AK. Unfortunately, I did something stupid and traded it off for a Walther PPK shortly after turning 21. Didn’t miss it much at first, but as the years went on I began to miss it more and more.
In 2019 I found the one pictured below on Gun Broker. New old stock with a buy now price of $650. I jumped on it without hesitation. It is probably my favorite gun. I guess sometimes you have to lose something, or give it away, before you can really appreciate it.
A really cool side note. The grip panels are from my first ROA.

Those 5.5” stainless ROA’s are absolutely beautiful. I fondled one at a gun show back in, I think, 2007. Guy was asking $550 for it NIB. I kick myself every time I think about it.

$550 14 years ago had a whole lot of buying power compared to now. IMO that revolver was vastly overpriced at the time.

Exactly. I paid $300 for one of mine around that time.

The only problem is.... it's unfired. No box or wrench. I was expecting a used one to shoot and rough house with. Now I'll have to decide to salt it away or just shoot it.

Can these auxiliary cylinders take a 45 colt “Ruger only Load” or is that to much?

Good day Gentlemen (and Ladies?). I expect the matter of the clearance between the cylinder and barrel has been discussed before somewhere, but I would like some views please. There's a maximum gap of 0.007" between my cylinder and barrel. I can reduce this gap to 0.003" if I slip a 0.004" shim/washer onto the base pin between the frame and the rear of the cylinder. My question is whether the 0.007" is "normal" or should I take steps to reduce it somewhat? The gun is a 7.5" stainless model in good condition; I'm using 0.457" soft lead balls and 24gr (vol) of H777 fffg, yet shooting standing, two-handed, same stance, same grip, same point of aim, the fall of shot at 25 yards is all over the bloody place - lucky to get them all within a 24" circle!). I'm just trying to think of other factors which might influence the accuracy (I don't think it's necessarily all down to me, as I can confidently hit a 30" x 18" IPSC steel at 50m with a 9mm Glock from a standing position). In short, I'm struggling! Any ideas?

Up the charge a little, change projectile- would be my guess

Mike Beliavau did some extensive testing of 777 and Goex FFFg in Ruger Old Army. This one he explained that 777 does not like compression. He has a 6 part series of videos on the testing.

Very cool videos- 6 total. Impressive numbers he gets with the 255gr and 777. Also 11+ jugs of water

Yes, OK - I'll try upping the charge a bit. I'm not too keen to change the projectiles though as I have too many of them to use up!
