Not much action on "Where are Reloading Components Available"

The supply thread is quiet again/still. No primers are hitting the market - I guess those new factories are having a hard time hiring, just like everybody else - some powders are available again but I think most folks are waiting for a particular powder or they decided to wait for sales and clearances so they can buy cheap. I think that creates kind of a self-eating watermelon effect: reloaders won't buy at "regular price" and retailers can't make money on reloading supplies at 1/2 off so they don't bother restocking. Powder and bullets just aren't the loss-leader they used to be.

Yup and that’s been pointed out before. Supply is trickling into some locals while 100 miles down the interstate they’re in the land of plenty; 100 miles the other way they’ve had lots of nothing for over a year. I guess maybe that’s part of the new normal too?
I'm beginning to think that the randomness of availability, especially when it comes-to reloading components .... I think a lot of that has to-do with specific cultural demands of a given area.

Where I am, in SC, the entire state is shooting sports and reloading hobby crazy .... oh, and bourbon addicted. This is home to Palmetto State Armory, the busiest Sportsman's Warehouse in the country, a Bass Pro and a Cabela's along with countless mom and pop lgs and there are just not enough of anything to go around. Plus we raid the Bass Pro in Charlotte and the Cabela's in Augusta regularly.

And you can't find a bottle of Blanton's here anywhere although the distillery tells us they ship more Blanton's to SC than they do to Michigan and Ohio combined yet I can always find Blanton's in Michigan and Ohio.

Now, when I go over and up toward the far more liberal area of the RTP in NC (Research Triangle Park) I occasionally score lots of reloading components and shooting supplies, ammo, etc., -- because there are not a lot of good old boys remaining in and around the RTP -- but those silicon valley types they do love their fishing and and backpacking and gadget stores. Lines are always out the door at the Apple and Verizon stores up there.

I was told this weekend that Bass Pro Shop/Cabela's has bought-out Sportsman's Warehouse ... that will not end well and it certainly is NOT going-to-be beneficial for we consumers.

I am transitioning into the part of the year where I am too busy hunting and burning up shells to reload all that much, although I will be casting once the weather cools off a bit. I am realizing that if this nonsense continues for too much longer (a year or so more), I will begin to get a bit thin on steel shotshells. Luckily I have primers, powder and can save hulls, so if I can source appropriate wads and shot i can keep going for quite a while. looking into bismuth shot, as i have never been thrilled with steel shells.

I just got lucky w/ the refresh button at Powder Valley, and got 1k SP primers at a "mere" cost to me of .09/ea. including hazmat and shipping.
Why do I feel like I hit the lottery?

I was part of that rat race trying to get a brick of 1,000 cci spp. Eventually I was able to add one to my cart but it showed up with an error saying it’s not available. Their powder selection was OK for a couple weeks now it’s back to slim pickens.

Well, first, congratulations!
Second, I don't even bother playing that game, anymore. The refresh and maybe I'll get "lucky" thing is annoying beyond my ability to deal with it.
I'm one of the folks I was referencing in the OP who stopped looking until sanity returns or the whole system crashes. At this point, I don't care which it is, just get it over with. This nickel-and-dime, maybe you win the chance to over-pay, maybe you don't business was old before it started.

I'm old enough to remember when carnie barkers and snake oil salesman still sold supposed miracles in public. Just spin the wheel and win a peak at the bearded lady! Oh, so sorry, son, it landed on 99 and you had 98. So close! Tell you what I'll give you another spin for (how much have got left there?) a nickel! Just one nickel to win a ticket to the show!"

Some things never change.

Other than primers and perhaps some favorite powders, I'm wondering how many are still actively in the hunt for components to the extent they are looking and checking....and reporting what they find? For example, Hodgdon does have some usable powders available.......A2495, A4064, Ramshot Hunter, etc, but nobody has reported it. Not at the top of most A lists, but useable B lists just the same.

So do you think it is a case of nothing available? People have given up and stopped looking...... or folks are caught up and no longer feel compelled to look? I was fortunate and found what I was looking for, so I fit the latter category.

I'm not caving in and buying at inflated prices, when things fully catch up and people run out of money/get stocked up (At the wrong time), things will get back to normal, probably even see some sales soon after, just like last time.

+1 on NOT caving!!! Prices may stabilize but non of us can be sure at what level. The optimist in me hopes that it will be sooner rather than later! Perhaps by spring next year.

I'm looking a lot less now than I had been. There is only so many times you can get to a store before they open and wait in line to be told nothing is available!!!

I've been looking a lot less lately as well. I'm sitting good on components, I even found and bought some AR Comp. Only thing I'm a little short on is large rifle magnum primers, and the local Scheels and Fleet Farm have been getting primers in pretty regularly. No large rifle magnum, but they've been able to keep bricks on the shelves lately. If I see anything come up I do share it though.

I need a few specific things, so I look. Since the Russian import ban was announced, things have gotten tighter again.

My area had spotty availability of powder and primers now it seems were back to nothing. I'm hopping things cycle again but I really thing shipping is really hurting everything. I see it in the grocery store as well.
Very True! I’ve cut down my Beef Steak meals and replace them with Pork steaks. Chicken wings are now a treat at $4-$6 a pound, bacon is now $5 a pack at Costco. I’m saving the bacon fat to make bacon flavored sausage patty and eggs! I guess I’m still eating good, shouldn’t complain too much

Heck man, you’d better save some primers to kick start your heart with that diet.

I'm fortunate to have everything I "need".
My eyes are open for things I may "want", but I'm not actively searching for anything in particular.

Lots of activity on the thread again: powders, primers, projectiles…. Still not much in the way of new brass but ammo is back on the shelves most places. Big time $$$$$’s for ammo and primers still but availability is the key, IMO.

How far away are we from $35/1000 sp/lp standard primers? Beats me. Yesterday I paid $34/lb for WST. Not a bargain but not bad, either.

Same here. Occasionally if I see something useful and timely (hunting bullets) I link them over to that thread. Personally, I've been able to replace depletion with a couple of substitute standards throughout the "shortage." Have lucked onto a few deals at pre-panic or very slightly inflated prices. Just nabbed 8# of 335, (I did link that one) for about 2 bills shipped. GTG for awhile. Will keep resupplying depletion on primers at decent prices. I will refuse to pay $100 shipped for primers unless I get really short. Have weathered the shortage well by digging into the dark corners of my reloading room and gun safe and utilizing some random stuff and 2010 purchased surplus ammo for casual practice. If you can shoot a Mosin 91-30 or Jap T38 carbine well offhand, you can shoot anything. The Des Moines factory 1942 M2 ball was a pleasant surprise also!

Ordered / picked up a brick of primers yesterday. (Academy, order online / store pickup only, Central TX. Was posted here in our thread)

Everything went smooth.

I've been buying primers by the sleeve for quite a while now. It felt so good to buy a brick yesterday, I had to go and get 2 more today! :)

I'm waiting for the hoarders out there who over paid for supplies to put them up for sale realizing they'll NEVER use the 100k primers they paid too much for or the 50lbs of powder they thought they'd ever use.

I have scrounged by by constantly searching. This forum has been a savior as far as SPP. I purchased 2K tonight that was listed on this forum tonight. Not cheap but I now have enough to carry me trough till better times. I belong to a few gun forums but THD has the best reloading section of all I belong to.

Actually where most of my current supply came from. An auction buy below retail in the "before times" from the estate of someone who couldn't take them beyond the grave. Most everything in the lots I bought had stickers at inflated prices in packaging contemporary to the last panic.
