Hornady was one of the first to make available 450 Bushmaster rounds w/250gr FTX bullets. When I began reloading that round, tried to duplicate the factory round and succeeded. Reloads and factory ammo produced identical point of impact. Now I'm having trouble finding the 250gr FTX bullets. Suspect Hornady's commercial ammo production is using all the available bullets. Haven't seen any for almost a year.

IIRC I saw some at the local Academy or LFGS last week but I don't remember what weight they were. I probably have a partial box in my supplies somewhere if you're really desperate. I played with a bunch of bullets when I first got my 450 Bushmaster and have since switch to shooting Barnes 275gr TSX exclusively for hunting.

I see them at Midway and Brownells off and on. I don’t use them so I didn’t buy them.

Here are a few places that say they are in stock. Never heard of the first And the other is Optics Planet so beware and the price is high there.

MisSouth is allowing back order so that is something.

There are also 250 FTX muzzleloader sabots out there you could pilfer the bullets from.

If you can’t find any you can sub with the standard 250 XTP. Near similar accuracy and better performance on deer IMHO. Remember that most 450 BM load data is for ARs. If using a bolt gun your charges and accuracy nodes may be higher.

What powder got you factory loaded accuracy? Charge? Asking for a friend.o_O

Loading for our deer hunting family (brother, sons, & grandkids).....total of 6 AR's chambered for the 450. My recipe is 41 grains of H110.

mcb....thanks for the offer. Got enough to get through this year. I'll keep it in mind if something doesn't show up.

Your welcome, best of luck in your hunts, I am looking forward to this season too!

Hodgdon's online reloading database show 41.0 gr of H110 under that 250gr FTX bullet loaded to the same length as their max published load. They also report a pressure for that load of 36,100 psi with 450 Bushmaster SAAMI MAP 38,500 psi.

mcb....36,100 psi and 2240 velocity is the same load data I've been using. Hornady's 11th edition doesn't show it going that strong. Haven't noticed any signs on the heads. JMorris, your insight regarding this is always welcomed....tell me more.

I have shot up ti 42.5 with H110 in a bolt gun. No pressure signs in my Savage. I never got great accuracy though. I wanted it to work pretty bad as I didn’t want to have to stock Lil Gun for it.

Much better accuracy with Lil Gun but still didn’t match factory accuracy. What ever powder they use is consistent. I can get a 3/4 inch group sometimes with my handloads. I have to try not to shoot a ragged hole with factory.

Nothing for me to tell, I was curious myself. The data I posted was what I went to. Extractor/ejector signs started showing up on my 458 socom when I was asking too much from it.

Might load me up some some more this evening to try this weekend.
