Don't drink and Derive, Integrate, or surf Gun Broker

Couple weeks ago I was sipping on some bourbon and surfing gunbroker, and came across something I'd been after for a while.
Way back when I was 16, I shot my first 1911. A blued Kimber Gold Match that belonged to my best friends dad. I was instantly in love.
Since then I've wanted a Gold Match of my own. Thanks to the convenience of Gunbroker and James Beauregard Beam loosening my wallet a bit, I finally have one.

With taxes and transfer, I've got about $1200 invested, but it's a very clean gun that looks and shoots awesome.
Series 1, looks to be 1999 manufacture date, and came with the original box. Super clean and trigger breaks cleanly at 3lbs.
I ran a few mags through it last weekend at 15, 25 and 50 yards. My no-shooting self kept all the rounds in the black on a 50ft pistol target at 25, and was ringing the 10x18 steel easily at 50. This gun makes even me look good.
Can't wait to put some more rounds downrange. It is my new favorite pistol.

That’s a great pointing pistol indeed. Good barrel length and well balanced. I won’t be looking at kimbers on GB tonight. As much as I’ve missed mine, I have made an absurd number of purchases through GB last couple of months. I think my FFL is tired of seeing me.

We've all been there (those of us who still sip occasionally). The wife cuts me off (from the internet, that is) if I've had a couple cocktails. Something about credit card statements...

However, I will state for the record, that I've never made any on-line gun-related purchases that I regret even if fueled by an outside source, i.e, fine bourbon.

As a 1911 fan in general, and owner of a few Kimbers, I approve.

I learned a long time ago not to drink and surf the web and never drink beer with your friends while walking around at a gun show.
I came home from a gun show once with a bunch of surplus crap I got at the gun show that I definitely wouldn’t have bought had I been thinking. Luckily no major purchases.
- Large ALICE pack frame
- Small ALICE pack :confused:
- battle dressing kit - no idea why
- crappy 10/22 folding stock (it was broken)
- assorted patches and decals

I never drank beer at another gun show. :D
 
I woke up one morning with an empty whisky bottle. I'd dreamed about purchasing a pink 9mm pistol.

Later that day I got an email and discovered it wasn't a dream.

Darned good pistol for cheap, though. I learned to ignore the color. At least Drunk Me isn't extravagant.

I understand. I've made purchases both with and without the influence of spirits
I was able to stay away from Gunbroker for a long time. But about a year ago I found out that the father of a girl I knew in high school now had his FFL. He lives ~2 miles down the same road I'm on, charges a $25 transfer fee, and is a really nice guy to deal with.
The convenience of being able to bid, and then stop by his house on the way home from work has proven to be too much, and I've made 5-6 purchases since that discovery.
My wife has been ok so far, but I believe her patience to be wearing thin. As my GB purchases have tended to be higher end ($$$) stuff that I don't usually see in the local shops.

Same here. When my “super convenient” FFL packed up and moved to Utah, he had a customer who got his FFL. He’s a couple of exits further down the Interstate and now is “merely convenient” for me.

As a result, my GB purchases haven’t slowed down a bit… in fact I fear they’re picking up steam. :eek:

Congratulations on your new Kimber. Some bad rap them, but my Kimber Lightweight full size .45 is the only 1911 of several that I own from various makers including Colt that has run flawlessly from day one. And about $650 out the door on a Sportsman"s Warehouse sale.

I have made a few booze inspired bids that I was sweating the next day or two hoping to be outbidded on. Thankfully I have dodge every bullet so far. But its still fun to bid. Its sort of like it yours. For a short time anyway.
 
I am no stranger to waking up next to a stranger but those days have past. Now, I get my coyote-date/what-did-I-do thrills from GunBroker bids and won auction emails. The last win was a Rem 722 in .300.

It amuses me.
I will say, though, that I don't like buying guns from Gunbroker anymore with the tax collection that they do now. It jack the price way up.
 
The only way I can fight the proxibid on-line auction action adrenaline trap is to place my max bid a day before it officially starts and keep the bidding switch turned off while I watch, yell, and scream.
