Stocks of ammo & prices getting back to normal at your LGS?

if they get anything you can't tell--it is gone in 5 minutes

For you 10mm guys out there, I don't know what you're paying or if you're seeing these prices, but when I was shooting 10mm years ago, I mean 6-7 years ago, this was the price I was paying and that wasn't during a shortage. This should be a good sign...

Came out to $47 for 2 boxes, so I just bit the bullet and ordered it. 200 rounds will last me years of hunting grouse.

It is getting a little better but not a lot. Haven't bought any ammo lately but have found some primers and a few pounds of powder.

We've been seeing an increase in ammo stock here but prices have either dropped just a tiny bit or remained high. Even online they have stocks of ammo but for the most part prices haven't come down much if at all, in some cases prices have increased.

All of our distributors have gone up considerably on ammo prices. we are not a small shop but not large either. we do a few million a year in sales. primers and powder when we can get them are nuts. we go direct as much as we can however most of those folks are several months or more out. I hope it gets butter but im not holding my breath.

Well in the south Georgia area it appears that the ammo shortage is easing up a bit finally. The local Academy Sports has 9mm and the other common handgun calibers on the shelf as well as some Remington Thunderbolt bulk 22lr. They have a four-item-per-customer limit, but some of the 9mm is bulk 200rd and 250rd boxes and the bulk .22 is 500rd boxes. Prices are certainly higher than two years ago, but not unreasonable for today: 9mm@ $.38/rd & .22lr@$0.08/rd. It hurts my wallet, but I’m replacing stock now.

There's more on the shelves but not at any price I'm willing to pay. LGS had 22LR bricks @ 49.99. Haven't seen those on the shelves in a long time.

Scored a brick of small rifle primers today for $54. First time in months my local crack dealer (ahem) had any.

9mm, 223, some 308 ball and limited 22 lr are showing up. Nothing for revolvers, hunting anmmo or shotguns. Prices are in low earth orbit

Better. Still pretty far from (inflation-adjusted) normal.

Bought PMC 9mm for $16.49/50 at my LGS (Joe’s Outdoor) last Friday. Almost like old times. Joe is definitely not a gouger. His prices reflect what he paid for it, so you might see very reasonable Federal Punch .380 right next to very expensive .32 ACP.

There's a lot more ammo available in my area and prices are steadily coming down.

Availability has improved. Prices have improved a tiny bit, but still well above pre-pandemic prices. That's probably baked into the shipping, production, and raw material supply disruptions.

Interestingly I think prices between calibers have come together a little bit. I'm seeing things like 10mm Auto within a dollar or two of .45 ACP - it's like the old common, inexpensive calibers, like 9mm Luger or 5.56mm NATO have increased in price to where they're not a whole ton cheaper than the formerly more expensive calibers.

Was at our Cabela's today. Ammo supply continues to increase. Actually had some revolver ammo (.357 mag) today but $.76/round. However, was able to buy 500 round cases of 115 gr FMJ 9mm at $.32/round.

This is good news.

Earlier this week I ventured into the local WM for a look see. The ammo shelves were stripped bare and only about three rifiles and two shotguns. There are a couple safes on display. That is a first to have a safe for sale in more than 20 years here. Other departments I went to had lots of spots with a single item where usually the shelves were overflowing. Estimate store is about 1/3 stocked at best. Ammo is there at LGS byt 3X to 4X past prices and limits as well. Nothing I wanted that much there anyway.

I just got home from our local Cabelas and they seem pretty well stocked on most stuff except reloading supplies, was hoping for some primers but all they had was a small amount of Mag. rifle. Anyway ammo prices are coming down I managed to get 5 boxes of Federal 115gr. fmj. for $18.99 a box. Still 80% over 2018 prices but the cheapest I've seen in a long time. Sad thing is my local GS still wants 30 bucks for the same thing.

South Central Texas at my local Academy yesterday. They had a little bit of everything and, in the first photo, to the left on the top two shelves, a lot of 9mm. Bought two boxes of Blazer Brass at $18 for a 50 count box. They sold out of .380 ($24) and .38 Special ($35) before I got there. Several boxes of .45 APC and .40. Don’t have those calibers so don’t know the prices. .22 LR all along the top shelf of the second photo. Mini Mags were $12 a sleeve.

A couple hundred boxes of .223 from different manufacturers as you can see. Plenty of shotgun ammo & rifle ammo. I bought 2 boxes of Fetter (Russian) 15 count 2 3/4 00 Buckshot for $8 a box which I thought was a decent price. Also picked up a 20 count box of Remington 30.06 Core Lokt for $23. Had not seen 30.06 for at least a year.

All in all the prices, depending on manufacturer, were 20 to 50% higher than pre COVID. Not complaining though as those shelves were bare six months ago.

One of the more aggravating aspects of this is the fact that deer season is around the corner yet while their shelves had tons of .223 ammo available, unusable for deer hunting where I live, they had not one box of good old 30/06 rounds available, good supply of .308 but no 06.

Its not getting 'better' as much as not as bad as it was. The demand for 9mm and 5.56 pushed loaders into only making that, as it is more profitable than stopping the machines, loading in different components, setting up the correct adjustments, etc. That can take hours and that is lost profit compared to the machine just continuing to run.

The demand for those two rounds tends to choke the ability to make others. As noted - here's deer season a few weeks away, where is the hunting ammo in cartridges, bullets, weights, and is there even any new loads? We won't know, the shelves are half empty and now there is demand for a reason, it won't last long.

16 millon new gun owners in the last few years. It's a major increase.

LGS flier has prices static for the last 3 months.

blazer brass 9mm $20.00, .40 $24.00, .45acp $28.00 and .380 $30.00

Stopped at the LGS yesterday and actually bought a box of ammo. Box of Federal Fusion .308s in 165gr. $23. Lots of ammo on the shelf, but most still too high. Still no .22 LR. A few selections of powder, and plenty of Hornady bullets, but still no primers. I doubt primers will ever return to normal.

I know I plan on stocking them deep if I can ever find them at 100% mark up or less.
