I have a M16A4gery from PSA with the FN upper and stock trigger. I’m thinking about upgrading the trigger and wondered what my options were for ~$100. I’ve looked at the Larue MBT, RRA National Match Trigger and the PSA branded 2 stage NiB trigger. I have the PSA trigger in a 308 PA10 and like it pretty well, so that one I have used. Any other options or opinions on these three?

I have ALG, Larue, Rock River, and Geissele. I like the ALG for the price (obviously better when it was cheaper). I would go with the Larue, but they just increased prices (this was the BEST deal when in the $80 range). The Rock is solid, pricing today is pretty good depending on variant. Geissele, simply the best, but expensive.

If price is the only issue, go ALG. At the next tier - go with the best price based on variant in Larue and Rock River.

So the Schmid is the rebranded one from PSA? That price is even cheaper than PSA when they had them in stock.

Do you have reasons for choosing one or the other between the three?

The ALG looks nice but I’d like a two stage trigger if possible. At the price point, the Schmid is affordable enough to replace the triggers in my 16” and 20” barreled rifles. I had only intended to do the A4 clone with the 20” barrel, but it would be nice to have all of them the same. Is there any sort of durability issue with any of these or the NiB coating?

I say this every time this kind of question comes up: you are reasonable handy, you can massage your trigger into something quite nice for about a half hour of effort. Barring that, if you replace the trigger, can I have the old parts? occasionally I have a guy come to me who has bubba'd his parts trying to do a trigger job, and it's handy to have a spare.

I honestly can't tell the difference in any of those three triggers. So I go with the cheapest. On labor day Aero precision had a sale that gave a $20 discount and free shipping if you ordered $100 worth of merchandise. They had the same trigger (Schmid) for $59.99, so I ordered 2. which made the price per trigger under $50. I turned around and orderer another 2 LOL. Since then they have raised the price to $69.99

Thanks for the input. I snagged two of the Schmid triggers. If PSA is rebranding them I already know I like them.

Any reason the Schmid wouldn't be good for a .308 rifle?

Anyone also use the reduced power BKF trigger? I have one in a 20" barrel AR-15 and like it, but have only 1 range trip with it so far. Curious how it might compare to the others in this thread.

Primary Arms has the RRA 2-stage NM on sale for $75 this weekend. I own 3, 2 of the lighter “Varmint” variety and they’re a solid upgrade for the money.

Barring a large display to test them all, choosing a trigger you truly love can be an endless process. If you want something really nice, TriggerTech, Elftmann, Geissele.

I have one in a 308 PA10. It’s what led me to looking for upgrades to the mil spec triggers in my 16” and 20” 223/556 rifles.

The Schmid fits the theme of my 16” PA15 which is a DMR (Discount Marksman Rifle). I’ll take any advantage I can in the 20” PA15. Its set up with iron sights and takes a little more effort to hit past 50 yards.

I’ve been shooting RISE Armament triggers in five different AR’s I own. They’re often roughly 100 bucks on sale, and I have yet to be disappointed.

Stay safe.
