That is one goofy looking cartridge. Very interesting.
What kind of velocity to you get with that bullet?

Goofy looking! I thought it looked kinda cute!

I have 2 different 30X357 magnum rifles, with 2 totally different loads.

Gun #1 has a 1-7" twist and shoots Hornady's 208 gr. A-MAX bullets @ 1,020 fps..

Gun #2 has a 1-12" twist and shoots Speer's 125 gr. TNT @ 2,222 fps..

With either gun and load shot from a bench, 5 shot groups @ 100 yards can be covered with a nickel, without any of the bullet holes showing.

I load Unique powder with the Hornady bullet because I find it to be the "quietest", as well as the most accurate.

With the Speer bullet, I shoot Winchester 296 powder.

I use Remington 7 1/2 primers in both guns and loads.

From a lifetime of loading, over 50 years, I match prep all cases in everything that I shoot. It may be unnecessary in some rounds, but why not get the best you can out of every gun and load you shoot!

Carpman,

I tried pm’ing, but I am not allowed to. Please try me back. I am interested in your ‘smith.

Thanks

My wife reminded me that Dave has a new forum that has all of his information and lots of pictures on. His website crashed last year, and not having the time to build another one, my wife and his put together a forum that is a lot easier for our wives to maintain, so if you are interested in seeing more of Dave's work, here is a link to his new forum.

i own two g-2 frames, a carbine 7-30 with 21" light barrel and a 375 jdj. three encore frames with .45 muzzleloader-.308 win-.375 jdj-two 45-70 rifle barrels. my 375 jdj is my favorite and have killed deer with it and the 45-70. the .375 jdj is easy to make, one trip thru the size die and load and fire(no fire formimg needed). any one need a mint 26" fluted blue .308 marlin express barrel?

Ultra cool is what I think of it. Nice setup. I've had a 15" Encore handgun in 7mm-08 for 20 years now. Thinking about selling it and putting the money towards an Encore rifle. Got the itch for a single shot long gun and I like Encores.
......... Nice to see this thread revived. There's my post from July 28, 2020.... Back in Dec. 2020 I came across a mint Encore rifle barrel in 7mm-08. One of the ones from the T/C Custom Shop and grabbed it. IMG_0308.JPG ... Now I have that Encore rifle. Got a laminated thumbhole stock from Boyd's and put on a 4-12x Redfield scope that was left over from my January 2020 project of putting a sporterized #4 Mk 1 Lee-Enfield back into original configuration. I'm really digging it; it shoots good and it's also in 7mm-08 just like the 15" handgun barrel so I was all set with brass, dies, bullets, etc. IMG_0529.JPG ... IMG_0521.JPG . Always was a Contender & Encore fan.

Precisionriflesmith is David White in OK. He is not the cheapest smith around but he is the best for single shot rifles. I sent him an H&R handi in 357 mag. He reamed the chamber to 357 MAX, chopped the barrel and did a trigger job. It shoots as well as my contenders and encores. Thank you Dave.

My favorite combination so far has been an Encore w a custom .454 Casull 20in barrel w a set of aperture sights. 270 gr bullet at 2,150 fps is a serious deep woods deer cartridge to 125 yards or so. Powder efficiency and accuracy have been stellar, its a small .45-70 lite. Also a very handy package.

Interesting to hear someone with a good experience doing actual business with this guy. His threads on several forums for many years have been absolute gunstore meme gold!

I thought this guy had died or retired. He had an interesting forum at one time and appeared on some forums I frequented, but I lost track of him.

He’s got some interesting cartridges and I don’t know anyone else who tinkers with T/Cs and single shots like he does.

Thanks for sharing and good to know he’s still around. Might have to put a project in motion.

I think this must be where he was controversial…..

I did a little digging into his user name and reverse image searches found the same stuff on 3 or 4 forums selling the same ridiculous claims... ignoring the pattern that he’d make a claim and then state someone had hacked his passwords, stolen his photos from his forum or website, posted as him, etc... but the same song plays on multiple forums, spanning several years... so either he has a stalker which has faked being him on multiple forums over several years and he uses an easily determined password so the fake can post on his actual account, or he’s nuts. Either way, there are prettier girls at the dance with less known baggage.

David was one in a million.
He will be sorely missed.
His work expanded my collection more than any other gunsmith.
I am lucky to hold the pieces that he modified.
He worked a lot with Bellm, who learned from Parker Otto Ackley, and their knowledge and cartridge designs will serve custom shooters for generations to come!
