share your Safari/Alaskan style rifles

Show off your safari/ Alaskan type rifles, I'm looking for some Inspiration. I have a idea on how I want my 9.3x62 to look. Any one with necg sights what ones do you like, I'd like a banded front sight and a rear with at least one flip up.

Same with stocks I'm not sure, I'll be using a Richards most likely unless I find something different.

09 Argentine mauser for anyone interested in what I'm building off.

It would be great to visit his place, he has very similar gun tastes as I do lol. I think my other 09 is the old 102 classic stock, I'd go for a round forend on this tho. Trying to price ebony Richards wants like $60 for the tip and cap in ebony but seasoned ebony online is pretty pricy to.
 
My wife, sitting at the butt of the Bear is 5'1", the Bear 10" and Im 10 feet from its nose in knee deep snow.

My wife with her VKT M-39 Finn Army Mosin, mine was identical, although a SAKO Civil Guard M39.

They kill very far.

A very good caliber, and ammo available in bulk, for consistancy.
Its wicked accurate, reliable. The sights are excellent.
It has a full wood stock to kep from freezing to the barrel, with a cleaning rod to clear snow and keep the chamber clean.
They have a side mounted sling for a decent carry across the back or chest.
The large trigger guard helps with gloves on.
The straight bolt handle makes cold weather manipulation a breeze.
Its trigger can be tuned
The firing pin can be adjusted easily for deep cold hunting.

Its only missing a butt trap for a cleaning kit, or it would be perfect.

they are one of few rifles that can truly work in the extreme cold.

My apologies to the OP, but I have ask one quick derailment question- what ammo do you use for the M39s? Factory? Handloads?

Ya they add $10 or something like that. There forends can run long to do I'll see if I can get a it a touch shorter, there's a optimum length I believe.

I may try making some aluminum stock pillars this week, I need to see what's a good Diameter is.
 
We use Czeck 7.62x54r mil surplus, BXN from the green 800 round cases. Very consistan and very accurate, its Steel cored and it tumbles for wicked effect, better than any other milsurp.
I also homeload 43grns Varget with a true Finn 'D' bullet. Holy smokes its a great load!!

At home in the village I have an FN made action with a 30-06 barrel and a inletted stock blank to trim down from Numerich gun parts. I belive its a Montgomory Ward rifle, made in the 60's by FN for American deer hunters and I have nice double/set trigger for it.
My goal is much like the one you have posted by Troy, and the caliber is right.
Its under my bed, and is still in 'dream' state.
Im leaning heavy on a side mounted sling, insted of bottom stock mounted. Iv just not had time or place as my shop has been busy.

Getting to Alaska is a bucket list type of thing, but I know I'll never get to hunt there, especially for big bear. A hunt of that type is way over my financial means. Maybe some fishing one day. But if I were to win the lottery and get to go I'd take this 1999 production SS Winchester Classic in 30-06. The McMillan stock and SS metal should be good to go with the weather and loaded with 200-220 gr Nosler Partitions I'm confident in it working on anything in Alaska.

For whatever reason Africa has never interested me. I doubt I'd go if someone else were paying the way.

some day id like to build a stainless Alaskan type rifle, 357 would be nice also for elk if I ever can hunt them. I always have a eye out for a stainless action.
 
.458 Win. Mag built around milsurp '98 type Mauser action. Classic walnut stock and refinements with lever-release scope mounts. (But for the record, every shot has been with the Leupold scope.) I've seen the aftermath of a front stock mounted sling stud, it will mess you up pretty good. The rule seems to be 375 and bigger use a barrel mount.
