So we have had several threads recently about the best do all revolver with various constraints on what "do all" means. They are amusing threads but I have to wonder how many of us revolver shooters actually have only one revolver that we do everything with?

It's been a long time since I owned only one revolver and even then it was not a do all revolver, it was bought for a specific use. ie it was a hunting revolver and I did not attempt to use if for CCW. As interesting as it is to discuss the "do all" revolver, in practice it seems to fall very flat for me and I suspect very few of us do it all with just one revolver.

Feel free to expound on your one do all revolver if you truly have/use only one. Or if you have multiple revolvers tell us about your favorites for various activities.

Example:
My CCW a S&W 442
My hunting with a S&W M29
My wood/tractor carry is a Webley VI
My competition revolver is a S&W 627 (but I really miss competing with my 625)
I have a few more revolvers but right now these are the activities and revolver that are seeing the most use.

I am sure there are other uses/activities I do not participate in and I also suspect some of revolvers users that spend more time than I hunting with a revolver have specific revolvers for specific species/situations.

Lots of revolvers, though not nearly so many as I once had. I have definitely found that most revolvers are more-or-less duplicates of most other revolvers.

I could get by with one if I really had to. It would be a mid frame with a 4" barrel, chambered in something like .357 Magnum. I would choose it as it is most suited to concealed carry, while still being fun, accurate, relatively easy to hit with, and powerful enough (though just barely, IMO) for game like deer and pigs.

I really like single actions, though. I am not utterly against them for CCW, but do think they are pretty far from ideal, and besides, I'd have to train a whole lot with one to get up to speed for defensive use. As it stands, these days I think of DA revolvers as being for business and SA revolvers for fun. That really means that I have a DA that gets carried a lot and shot a little, and an SA (or three!) that is the gun I really look forward to shooting.

I daydream, at this point in life, of retiring to a quiet little spot where I have a bit of land, access to a sailing lake or bay, and where I can open carry a Freedom Arms 97 in .44 Special as my "one gun" and nobody thinks anything of it.

<edit> As for the list:

My carry gun is a 4" S&W Model 19. It's ideal for me in that capacity, but as it edges toward "collector status" I shoot it less and less, and with milder loads. It probably is due for replacement, but I'm not sure with what - and at any rate whatever it would be isn't available right now.

My primary "fun gun" is a Ruger Bisley Flattop, 5.5", .44 Special. After a good deal of work it is perfect in just about every way, although @CraigC's avatar constantly reminds me that I should have it engraved.

My almost primary "fun gun" is a factory engraved stainless Vaquero in .45 Colt. It sees two main uses: as an "indoor range" gun with plated bullets, so I don't choke on my own exhaust, and as a blackpowder gun for outdoors, so that everyone chokes on my exhaust!

A couple of years ago I would have added a K-17 .22 to the list, but as I don't know when I will be able to replace the non-reloadable ammunition for it, it hardly gets used now.

There are a few others which see use when the mood strikes (the ones which rarely if ever got used have almost all been sold or traded away) but the above list make up the core group, and I'm sure I could get along fine with them alone.

I have three revolvers, a Ruger single six 22, a Ruger flattop blackhawk 44 special, and a GP100 357. I have a 1911 I carry generally.

Mostly though I shoot the two single actions. I have a pancake holster for the 44 with IWB loops and carry it some.

Really, the gp100 and blackhawk have the same purposes, are the same size, and carry the same.

I make do with these, but could easily do it all with either of the centerfires. I prefer the blackhawk 44. The single six is mostly for fun. You can't hunt small game with centerfire here so the single six covers that.

The "one revolver" could mean just
that, only one.

Possibly "one revolver" might be several
that are all of the same manufacturer
with the same specifications.

Or the "one revolver" could mean just
one model but a variety of stock shapes,
barrel lengths.

Slightly expanded in thinking, the "one revolver"
might include several by different makers but
all with the nearly the same specifications.

The one common denominator I believe would
be the same caliber for all the above variations.

I guess I could "manage" with just a few:

a longish-barreled 22 for plinking and small game

a snub 38 for carry

a 4"- 6" revolver in a larger caliber, for HD, target shooting, and hunting (357, 44, 45, etc)

I enjoy having more than just those, but that would be enough.

LoL! I just realized that describes the first three revolvers that I owned, which did indeed prove to be sufficient for a decade or so. :)

I have known several people who only owned one revolver. My grandfather had one, kept next to his bed. An Army friend had one .38 Police Positive Special.

I have several. They vary in size and weight.

Revolvers are like Lays potato chips, nobody can really have just one. (Same for 1911's).

I have multiple revolvers and the uses overlap. Most uses are for fun, entertainment and sport.

I have 4.

Two J frame snubs for carry and general HD/SD.
Model 629 for hunting but I have not used it yet. Fun range gun when ammo was more available. I would like to get a Redhawk or BFR in something bigger but this is what I have for now.
Model 17-2 for range practice for said 629 and I once shot a rat with...rat shot...in my attic with it. Plus, I wanted a K frame 22 for a long long time and this is what I ended up with.

I currently only have two revolvers, a S&W Model 10 with 4 inch heavy barrel, and a S&W 617. The 617 goes with me on almost every range trip. It's very accurate and fun to shoot.

ha ha ha ha! "No."

3 snubbies. 2 not quite snubbies ("compact service size", a tad too large to pocket carry). One old 4" .357 cop gun. One L-frame size .44 Magnum, about the same size envelope as the 19-4. And keeping an eye out for a non-snubby .22 revolver, so I'd have something to shoot CB caps out of.

(4 of those revolvers were bought within the last year.)

Multiple revolvers. And, yes, of course, I match the tool(s) to the task(s), to the environment, and/or to the holster/clothing being worn.

The smallest are J-Snubs, which I actually rarely carry, anymore. Shooting .38 Special, through J-Frames, started really annoying my right hand, especially, as long ago as the Nineties. I now only shoot them lefty. My usual minimum is an SP101 fivegun. My best accuracy potential is with a GP100, that has adjustable sights. I do not keep score, but the most-often-carried individual revolver, recently, is probably a 4” Ruger Speed Six.

When the mood strikes me, I will carry a single-action revolving pistol. Awakening, in the morning, with an especially stiff, gimpy right hand, wrist, and forearm can be part of that equation. I like single-actions, when the left hand is the “operating hand.” Recently, I tend to carry a small auto-loading pistol, as the “tactical reload,” when I tote a single-action sixgun.

Any of these revolvers, except for the J-Frames, could be a “one gun” to do (almost) everything.
