So what is their plan? To fight and win the lawsuits? They did relocate right? But that was to no avail for the court stuff?

The problem is they are so consumed with greed and power that they will sink the ship rather than let go. Its like a dictator on his last legs.

"The HQ roof is leaking badly and the NRA legal library on the 6th floor had to be moved to a small building next door. The lower level where the vaults are located has flooded in the past. I have no idea how the collection is faring. In the past, I had a team of volunteers that regularly mornings would go through cases waxing firearms and checking for any problems. When we didn't work in the galleries, we worked down in the vaults. Sadly I recently got a call from a museum lender that had asked from a historic piece back.

He told me his pistol was rusted. That would not have happened when I was on watch. There are millions of dollars of guns just in the galleries."
 
That’s really too bad. I wonder what’s going to become of the Girondoni rifle.

"Direct Marketing" is a big-bux biz that operates by using 'mass.' I doesn't matter if your "hit rate" is 1:10,000 if you send out 10 or 100 million requests. Per day. Same way spam works, really.
So, there's money in the game. Big money.
They will pay people, and not casual cash, to "sell" their product. No matter what that product is.
It's not entirely clear, but, NRA may have hired (and/or created) a number of DM agencies to make appeals by mail and email. And been given buckets of cash in return.
What will never help is that many DM companies are holding companies, who contract out the actual work, and just take the skim. So, that one DM company you 'contract' with may shop the work to three or four subcontractors, none of whom will know about the others.

So, not only do you wind up irritating membership, but, you are fueling corruption at the top, too.

McClellan was both praised and condemned by Lincoln as being good at "organizing" the Army of the Potomac. He had a saddle named after him. His Army went on to be successful without him.

The problem with the "other" organizations are that they are smaller, in both membership, and in political clout than the NRA. GOA is about 1/5 the size, SAF is around 1/10. As far as the antis are concerned those groups are "small" and easily dealt with.
The fact that they are doing good work does not matter.
As Gen Zukov pointed out "quantity has a quality of its own." The great mass of the antis is hard to resist, and the NRA does serve as a breakwater for that mass to expend itself upon. Take the breakwater away, and the entire anti establishment than falls on the other groups, one after another.

What this really all reinforces is that there's been a lack of transparency with NRA. Sunshine is a great disinfectant.
Why is it NRA has very public election of (largely figurehead) Board of Directors & President; but the actual Executive President, WLP, is "elected" in a behind-the-scenes fait acompli. That the EP gets to be neck-deep in the financial swamp of the Beltway, and is under no onus to be seen to be "without sin."

Even the "relocation" was a dark-of-night escapade by WLP to try and flee to Texas, and to then try and declare bankruptcy there.

And, this has been afoot for thirty or forty years now, and just was "business as usual."

It's well past time to cut the head off the fish. The question is whether to keep the whole rest of the fish, or just grind it up for cat food.
 
Tried writing the American Rifleman Magazine today. Email bounced back with 554: IP name lookup failed. No PTR record found. Another bad sign.

There are a lot legitimate gripes about the leadership but there have also been a lot of bad storms in the north east that caused a lot of damage so the NRA may be just one of many that suffered damage. Who knows without further info. Too early to judge. As another said, those that have donated objects to the museum no doubt have legal documents to address such situations and need to pull them out and review them. I wouldn't look to a forum for that kind of advice.

I personally saw that story recently in an article in an advertisement from a company that sells firearms parts... I think it was titled "The NRA continues to scuttle its own ship". I'd like to know about the veracity of the story, too. Personally, I'm not that impressed with the modern NRA. At this point I'm only a member because our local gun club requires it.
 
Very sad .The NRA was once a great 2A powerhouse and due to some poor management and constant hammering by the anti 2a left they have been destroyed .So i give it a year at most before biden and his ilk destroy our 2a .Lobbying and money move mountains or prevent them from being removed !

Not my problem. The good members of the NRA know what needs to be done to survive. Do it. I don't give a care, about a few cowardly good apples.

I'm not funding your endless summer vacation. I'm not making $1,000,000. So the NRA will get zero support from me. Seems like the NRA has waaay too much income, if they can throw million dollar paychecks around.
 
The Washington, DC attorney general has gone after the NRA Foundation. Among other things, WLP and his lackeys stand accused of using the Foundation as a piggy bank.

Fact: WLP has borrowed donated tax exempt money from the Foundation. No one except WLP and his fellow scoundrels know what that money was used for. Using tax exempt funds for political purposes is a serious violation.

"In recent years, the NRA has experienced financial problems related, in large part, to low membership and the NRA’s decision to continue to waste funds on improper, lavish spending. To plug financial holes caused by its own poor management, the NRA turned to the Foundation’s funds. Because the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and executives are dominated by the NRA, and the NRA had subverted the Foundation’s independence, the Foundation has allowed itself to be financially exploited through, among other things, unfair loans and management fee payments to the NRA. In allowing its funds to be diverted from charitable purposes and wasted to prop up the NRA in impermissible ways, the Foundation Board of Trustees has failed to provide meaningful oversight and failed in its fiduciary duties. Through this enforcement action, the District seeks injunctive relief sufficient to reform the Foundation’s lack of proper independent governance and a constructive trust over Foundation funds improperly wasted on the NRA."

A related irk to me is they practically engraved in stone that no right is absolute.

While technically correct, eg. the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness versus incarceration and execution, their statement opens the door to limitless expansion of the limitation of those rights.

Especially, I note forcefully, the right to keep and bear arms.

Or to have hollow point ammunition.

Or to have empty shell casings in one's vehicle.

Or to have a 20 round magazine.

Or to <ahem, koff-koff> to bear arms outside the home. Cough cough.

But I see the self-defense emphasis as part of the whole Heller complaint. Dick Heller did not want to carry outside the home so he could start a revolution, it was purely for self defense. So I'm sorta OK with that "narrowly defined" issue.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A ransomware gang believed to operate out of Russia says it hacked the National Rifle Association, the most powerful gun-rights group in the United States.

The gang, which calls itself Grief, published a handful of what appear to be the NRA files on a dark web site. The files, reviewed by The Associated Press, relate to grants the NRA has awarded. Ransomware gangs often post a victim’s files publicly in hopes of spurring them to pay out a ransom.
