Has anyone else noticed that gun guys are loud, mouth, know it all's and if your caliber, manufacture, bullet type doesn't meet their persona they turn into a giant you know what. Man, I am on several FB gun, reloading, etc. groups and these guys just lose their minds when it comes to stuff. Probably the worst is the 6.5cm guys. 6.5cm is end all be all and if you shoot a 308 they call you all kinds of names. I have got into discussions with guys at work and if your beliefes like dont shoot a deer with a 223rem they absolutly freak out on you and its like your enemy #1. I honestly cant put my finger on why people get so worked up over it. If you wanna use your 6.5cm to shoot a cape buffalo at 500yards more power to ya. Just let us know when the funeral is when that thing charges you and stomps you to death.

Been hanging out at ARFCOM? :D

On the whole, I'd say gun guys are the best group I've ever met. There certainly are some obnoxious ones - especially on the internet - but I'd take my chances with the average gun guy over the average just-about-anyone-else.

That's just the ones you notice.

because the rest of us are not loud mouths.

FB is bad for your health and should be taken in very light doses.

one of the best benefits of forums and social media is the ability to turn it off.

Gun guys by nature may be of certain type of human, a type “ A”personality perhaps. More than a couple of Type A’s in a group usually leads to lively discussions.

This is a result of society/culture - what is allowed and what is not.

Just because a person's previous or current experience is _____________ (you fill in the blank), makes them an expert.

Just because the voice is the loudest in the room, does not mean the info is correct.

Yes, some are like that, just like "Chevy/Ford" guys on car forums, "Evinrude/Mercury" guys on boat forums and "Chicken Mamas" on Backyard Chicken Forum ... They will make sure to "help" you get it right.

And let's not even mention "Bernina" owners on sewing forums where everything else is just "Junk". :neener: (My mom is a Bernina snob and had a cow when my wife bought a "Singer" ...

Things get heated even more on cooking knifes where "Henckels/Wüsthof" owners try to justify why their knives have to cost so much more ... :p (Although I am a Wüsthof owner, I use daily $22 Cuisinart knife set from Costco and recommend KitchenAid and Kuma knives to others ... Magic is in the $7 whetstone and I only sharpen my cooking knives once or twice a year but hone them regularly ;))

And shall we go on to "Apple/Android" owners or "Benchmade/Cold Steel" owners or even perhaps "Leatherman/Gerber" to "Snap On/Harbor Freight"? :) (Hey, HF hand tools come with no questions asked life-time warranty )

I probably need professional help because I am a 1911 "gun guy" who appreciates Glocks ... So am I "bipolar"? :what:

Does FB offer what is currently referred to in Forums systems as an Ignore List (back in the less-PC BBS days it was known as a Twit Filter)?

I have been a "gun guy" for more than a half century and I avoid such zealots ... no matter the subject about which they are sequencing.

I'm seeing opportunity here.

Yes, I have, but that's not by far what I generally speaking call a "gun guy".

It really depends on the forum/group I've found. I'm in several gun groups on there and some have plenty of the annoying loudmouths, others they are pretty sparse.

The Palmetto State Armory group I'm in isn't too bad but probably the worst of them just they aren't as picky on membership requests. There are plenty of guys who join just to trash PSA rifles, for what reason I don't know but whatever. You also get the caliber war stuff from time to time but not too bad.

I'm in a S&W group that's pretty cool, never really dealt with internet warriors in that one. Same with the CZ/clones group.

The Illinois concealed carry group I'm in has its share of loudmouths but also has some good info and is mostly good guys/gals. Most of the bickering/posturing is self proclaimed self defense experts and Monday morning quarterbacking of incidents. I got in an argument the other day with someone who crapped on anyone who would take advantage of a free CCL class a place was offering, saying it couldn't be very good. I made the point of even if it wasn't as good as other classes, I'd still rather take that and be able to defend myself than wait who knows how long for a better training. He went all tough guy and said if I knew anything about training I wouldn't say that. Completely looked past my point of, CCL training isn't generally defense training, it's education about legal issues and ensuring you at least know how to safely handle a gun. You should get more training anyway, but I see it like getting a Hi Point (not ideal but functional) now vs waiting 2 years for a Glock as far as being able to defend myself.

There's a couple Sightmark Wraith night vision groups I'm in that CAN get the same way but they generally aren't as bad. Most of the pissing there is either caliber related or ironically enough about IR illuminator brands/reps.

By the by, I find MOST gun guys to be relatively chill and level headed, but like someone else said the ones that aren't are really ones you notice.

Honestly whatever is on the net is assumed to be a least a little bloviated. I've been around enough of the semi educated gun folks (equality in gaffes of course) that it doesn't seem to matter whether it camo (fudd or mil), 511, leo, ROs, FFLs or anyone else. People have opinions and like to share them. Many of them think they are well meaning. It's a wonder anyone new to firearms gets anything straight. Lots of chaff with the wheat!

That was my entire reason for the post. How can anyone know whats true or not true. I grew up thinking you had to blow a squirrel away with a 12ga high brass 3'' shell because thats what someone else told me I had to use. I also grew up thinking no other handgun caliber was sufficient for SD but the 45acp. When people freak out and yell their opinion to the masses they get newbies confused.

I've been a firearm instructor for the better part of 15 years. In that time I have encountered all different kind of gun guys and girls. From the shy, skittish new person to the loudmouth who doesn't know the barrel from their 4th point of contact. So far, the vast majority of ones that know their stuff are not the loud ones. The loud ones just stick out the most.

Not sure what anyone can honestly do about it. I think the best advise I've heard recently was all tools work for something, some better or more specialized than others, but in the end they are all junk because all can fail at the task. 338 bolt rifle with 50x scope is awful for trap doubles, glocks keep losing on the 10m precision line, silver pigeons never hit the 800 yard steel buffalo, you get the idea. I do know guns are relatively expensive investments for most people and no one likes to think they made a poor choice. So when someone asks 'whats a good one' you are likely to hear whatever the responder owns is the best.

My wife is a Bernina Snob. I showed her this thread and she said,"Amen." It seems to be getting more difficult to have meaningful intelligent conversations in today's society. My side! Your side! Never will either side even recognize the other, let alone agree to disagree and remain friends. Even those in government cannot participate in meaningful discussions.

Yes, OP, I have definitely noticed. Mainly I try and let that kind of stuff roll off my back, but sometimes it continues going until the straw breaks the camel’s back. I usually just ignore things when they get like that. Easier said than done a lot of times.

some examples that i’ve ecountered...

multiple overheard sales pitches at gun shops to female newbies by bearded, tattooed, minimum wage, seal team six wannabes insisting that a first/last/one/only handgun must be a $500+, 9mm, customizable, polymer, wonder blaster, without a mag disconnect safety of course.

expensive shotgunners who think that all handguns and/or “assault rifles” must be banned.

my cousin in law who “knows all about guns,” having allegedly completed a junior college special police/guard-card course 30 years ago, but never worked in the field because “the hours are bad,” yet absolutely cannot keep his finger off the trigger of any firearm anytime encountered within 5 feet.

those who repeat the canard, “shooting a bad guy with a 22lr will only p him off.”

Have we met? I mean, just because I've mentioned that Silverados rule and my Zwilling Henckels are totally awesome and I-phones suck... uh, and Gerbers last longer than Leatherman...

Hey, wait... there's sewing forums? I'd heard about the chicken forums; I just wonder how they type with those weird feet.

Anyway, isn't this all why "discussion" forums exist? So we can all dissect the minutiae of our chosen tools? And given the almost utter and complete lack of civil discourse in our society these days, we should be surprised that there are people who can't figure out ways to appropriately argue a case in support of their opinions?

Worst case of that I have experienced was the Skeet shooting deputy who expressed grave doubts about a "civilian" doing "combat" shooting with a pistol. I refrained from expressing doubts about paying for a Crown Grade Krieghoff on county pay.
