I accidentally loaded 100 357 mag cases with 6 gn Bullseye (below max), 158gn LSWC, and CCI small RIFLE primers ( non magnum).
Should I pull them or shoot them?
No, I don't own a Ruger revolver, I just traded my SP101 for a Colt Commander.
I do have a 686, and a couple of Taurus 357s. I could always give them to the new owner of the Ruger with full disclosure. Or I could get the Ruger back for a weekend. What say the experts?
Thanks in advance.

Shoot them, CCI small rifle and small pistol magnum are the same primer, other brands aren’t far off of this. This does not hold true for large rifle/pistol primers which are not the same size.

If you're worried about it just do a workup to that load with your 686 using the SRP's.

If the load would be safe with CCI small magnum pistol primers, it'll be safe with CCI 400's.

Thanks guys, with the cost of components these days, it would be a shame to have to waste 100 primers, not to mention the time spent. I load on a single stage press:(.
I dont follow, wasting any components. I've rebuilt tons of rounds, wasting nothing. You can shoot them or pull the bullets and adjust the charge as needed.

I have a 686 and a mod 19. I did an experiment with small rifle primers in case I ran low on small pistol primers. I found that not all would go off shooting double action, but shooting single action I had no problems. I say shoot 'em up.

mistake #1
What makes you think that the ruger is any stronger then the 686???

mistake #2
You made a plinking load and some how a rifle primer turned it into a bomb???

mistake #3
You don't understand what a magnum or rifle primer brings to the table. Or their affects on fast/slow burning powders even though there's been 100's of posts on sp vs sr vs magnum primers since the latest shortage on this website.

Ugly target intended for my own eyes testing 2 different cast 158gr hp's @ 50yds in a S&W 686 using 5.5gr and 6.0gr of bullseye.

#1 I don't, please see above.
#2 and #3 that's why I asked the question, because I didn't know.
Sorry for troubling you, I hope I didn't ruin your day or anything.

Shoot em up, doesn't look far off anyways.
I have .38 special performance loads loaded in 357 MAG cases so I don't get "the ring" in the cylinders.
A bigger concern is, you made 2 pretty big mistakes unknowingly. At least you caught before firing them.
Let's just say I know a guy "Dave" who loaded WIN 231 in place of 2400 in 357 Magnum. Somewhere In the 11-12 grain arena. He only ever was able to fire one of them. No KB, but had to tap empty out of cylinder w/ rod, and primer was flattened to the size of a Large Pistol Primer....

Send em! I’ve found myself in this dilemma before. Luckily you have enough info to know that they’re not far off. Maybe have that squib rod nearby? Jk

Didn't ruin my day, far from it.

Simply impressed that a +/- week doesn't go by that there's at least 1 post question about using:
sp VS sr
spm VS sr
sr VS srm in pistols/revolver
etc

Here's 1 from last week/started nov 5
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/spp-vs-srp-prime.897209/unread
nov 4
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/magnum-small-rifle-primers.897151/
This 1 is interesting from nov 2 (all hodgdon data uses ww lp primers & ww lp primers are standard/mag rated)
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/quick-question-lpp-mag-for-10mm.897055/
Another is it ok to use lpm primer question, 45lc and hp-38 powder (more hodgdon powders) started nov 1/last post nov 3
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/cci-large-magnum-primers-for-45-long-colt.897014/
Yet another mag primer question oct 28th/last post nov 1
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/pistol-mag-primers-9mm.896865/

Anyway it might be a good idea to do your typing in the search function instead of these types of posts so you could educate yourself on the vast knowledge that's on this website about primers and their uses.

I still don't know why people ask about the standard vs mag primer thing when using lp primers considering all of the hodgdon reloading data uses winchester lp primers for all their pistol/revolver data that uses lp primers.

That great, thanks for the education. Maybe I can find a few hours to search next time instead of asking a simple question.
MAYBE, after spending enough time searching I will be as knowledgeable as you seem to be.
Again, sorry for ruining your morning coffee.
