Have you ever had this happen to you ? A friend/family goes with you to say lunch or something, they are gun people like you, but ask if you brought a gun and then they leave theirs behind since you are carrying yours?

Edit: the question posed is not if you would answer if you're armed or not, it is have you ever had someone NOT bring their concealed weapon cause they ask or assume you have one so they dont "need" theirs.

never a thing here.. always carry your own. its not like I'll 'borrow' theirs if the SHTF. I havent had to ask my buddies but I'm sure they'd feel the same.

I don’t care if my friends carry or not. Everyone makes a choice.
I would gladly expend bullets for them, but I won’t be taking any!;)

(“Did you just use me as a HumanShield?!”

“No! Of course not! I was seeking cover to return fire…”

“I am NOT COVER!”

“You are without a weapon…”:D)

No Country For Old Men scene:

Sheriff Ed Tom Bell and his deputy Wendell are about to enter a mobile home belonging to a local man who may be in danger. Bell tells his deputy, who is in front, to have his "gun out and up." Wendell turns around to his older, much-seasoned boss, whose gun is still holstered, and asks: "What about yours?"

The sheriff replies "I'm hidin' behind you." ;)

Of course, I don't think Bell expected any threat to still be present. He may have simply been giving Wendell a training opportunity, given the lack of "action" in the rural, sparsely-populated county.

Yes.

A poll might have been easier.

That's a stupid idea. If there is a possibility of a threat carry your gun, don't depend on others. What happens if I'm in the restroom of the restaurant when the bad guy comes in & starts shooting the place up. Or if there are more than one perp.
One gun is better than no gun, two guns are better than one, & so on, & so on.........

Yes.

And let's face it, most "gun people" are not really gun people when it comes to concealed/open carry for self defense purposes. They are non or infrequent convenience carry folks.

When somebody says something about not carrying because they know you are, the reality is that they would not be carrying even if you weren't around.

I figure that when they are saying stuff like that, they are just making conversation.

Reminds me of going to eat after an “away” match with friends. One of the fellows facing the entry point asked another with his back to it (was a grandmaster class shooter), what he would do if trouble came busting through the door. He stuck his fingers in his ears and put his head on the table.

The flock feels safe with just one dog, despite that being reality or not.

It's probably happened but not in recent memory. I will say anyone who would do that is pretty thoughtless, throwing all his responsibility for self protection on your shoulders for his simple convenience. Not a nice thing to do.

When I first moved to Missouri, a friend of mine also moved here from Illinois. He got his CCW license before I was able to get mine. I was working overseas at the time and getting a class setup just didn't work with my vacation schedule.

He and I were meeting somewhere and I asked him... "Want to be my weapons bearer and carry a 2nd gun for me?"

I finally got my CCW License and have renewed it multiple times. The same friend let his CCW license expire, as MO now has a form or Constitutional Carry. Problem there is he got temporary contract job in Iowa, which doesn't have Constitutional carry. He also lost his original training class paperwork and the gun shop he used for his class is out of business. He now has to take the class all over again.

Main reason I keep renewing my CCW is I like to vacation in states that have reciprocity with Missouri.

It brings up an interesting thought. Your invited to a party . You know the host/hostess, friends of friends, are not gun people.
Your armed at all times. Say nothing, ask permission, don’t go or leave the gun in the car.

Even if I was POTUS, I would still bring my own. Just like Teddy Roosevelt. My security detail would be tired of me asking them to hook me up with some training ammo.

I Remember years ago (late 90’s) seeing Ala. Governor Fob James on the news open a drawer on his desk and take what appeared to be a J-frame 38 out and sit it on his desk then he grabbed some paperwork and put it back and shut the drawer.
It was so casual, like he just moved a paperweight, I think that’s why I remember it.
