That setup looks nice, but not particularly conducive to best shooting. Standing and leaning against a car can cause tension in your neck that becomes uncomfortable and not as steady as needed to make great groups. You need to shoot sitting down at a solid bench! Your setup may result in a few nice groups, but unless young and very steady, groups will get larger because of tension and fatigue in your neck, back and legs.

Same friend who has spotting scope bought a pair of Meopta binoculars.
I have an older pair of Zeiss from the 1980's and just for giggles we decided to compare. He lives on a farm and closest house is about 600 yards away.
So we would both look at houses and smaller details around houses exchanging binoc's back and forth. Both were 10/40. They seemed extremely close, with the Meopta being a frogs hair brighter. Both of us were very impressed with the Meopta as they cost about what the Zeiss did in the mid 80's.
I remember being able to read the name of the road signs at about 400 yards.
About 24 ounces. It's a substantial scope, but the 527 Varmint isn't a lightweight gun by any means, and I'd consider it primarily a gun for shooting from a rest, actual bench or otherwise.
For walkin' and totin', the American is a much better choice. Here's the Varmint along with my Classic (which is essentially the same as the American, just called different things at different times). IMO, with the guns in hand, there is more difference in the perceived weight of these two than the photo would have you expect. The Varmint with its long, heavy barrel is a hefty gun. The American is the same size as a 452 in 22 LR.

I shoot from a conventional bench when I have the choice, but in my 50 years of shooting I've done my share off of a truck or car, or other less-than-perfect setups. It's hard to haul a nice solid bench around everywhere you might want to shoot. I've shot plenty of .3" and .4" 100 yard groups (and some better) with setups similar to the photo, so I get by. One key is to position the vehicle so that the gun is at a comfortable height when you are standing. If you set it up correctly, you can use the vehicle as a pretty solid rest. If you set it up poorly, it's a poor setup.

I have the exact same rifle. Warne rings and a Leupold VX-3i, 4.5-14X. Excellent combination for me. You're going to like that rifle if it shoots anything like mine does.

Do you have a picture of your rifle? That is the exact scope I had in mind when I thought about mor power than 7. This rifle isn't super light, but I don't want to turn it into a tank with too big of a scope. But it'll need some decent power glass if my suspicions are correct. A nice point is that the balance point for my rifle is 1" in front of the magazine, so it should carry well in the hand.

Did you have a hard time getting that NECG front sight to fit. I got one but messed it up trying to file it down to fit

Yeah, it comes oversized and mine ended up with a little play once I finally got it into the slot. I think the idea is to take off small amounts from the underside until it just barely slides in, then work down the notch for the retention pin.
Mine's not loose enough to matter, but not my best example of handiwork...

You guys are going to hate me got 5 CZ 527s 2 carbines in 7.62x39,2 in 6.5 Grendel 1 carbine 1 varmint and a left handed 223. Most have a DIP picatiny the 223 has Warne rings.

I just have the two in my avatar, I really want a long barrel 6arc, and a 18" barreled 221 fireball in an American configuration. Pretty sure neither will happen though...

The rumors of the 527 going away have been around a year or two. Fortunately I got all the versions I wanted. I also have a CZ 500 Ebony. I love traditional rifles with walnut stocks and CZ filled that niche. Like several other posters, I’m not thrilled that CZ’s done away with the 527 and 500, but I’ll keep an open mind and look forward to handling their new design.
I must admit that some of their caliber choices in a couple of the versions leaves me scratching my head.
