My son, Isaac asked if I would take him and his friend shooting today. My son’s friend has fired guns before, but never an AR or a handgun. So I brought a couple of ARs and a few handguns.
Here’s what I brought.
My son’s two ARs.

Glock 44 and Taurus TX22.

After going over each gun we started with the Taurus TX22 and then the Glock 44. Other then jerking the trigger a few times, my son’s friend was doing very good. After about 100 rounds of 22lr we switched to 9mm.
We first shot the M17 because, he’s been talking about going into the Army and I thought that he would like it. He did pretty good.
Next we went to the ARs. My son’s friend had a blast. He should 30 rounds of 5.56 then I put the CMMG 22 conversion in the red AR and let him have some fun.

Then I took out the Glock 45

For the last 10 rounds of 9mm ammo, I asked my son’s friend which 9mm he liked the best. He said the Glock. So I loaded up the last ten rounds and put out a fresh target. He put eight of the ten rounds into the head of the target, he jerked two rounds that hit just under the ear to the right.

He had a hell of a grin on his face after shooting.

I didn’t do much shooting my self, but I had a great time too.

And good photo perspectives also.

A majority of Youtubers, it seems, don't understand the appeal of seeing both a shooter and a target…at the same time.
I like to take photos and videos of people that I go shooting with, and send them to them afterwards. And you’re correct, a photo that shows the shooter and the target are more appealing.

Funny thing Gunny, I had a similar experience last summer. I took two grandsons to my club with one of my AR's. I took 300 rounds. One of the grandsons is now in the marines. Both took turns firing a magazine while the other spotted for him with my spotting scope. That was the first time in my life that I never fired a shot while at the range, and I enjoyed it tremendously! One of the boys asked me why I did not bring a second AR so both could shoot at the same time. I reminded him what each shot cost me. That answered his question. :) Both of them learned to handle the gun properly and both were very good marksmen.
The young marine has seen duty in Switzerland, eats the Ma-Deuce, M249?, and M16 for breakfast and is now back in South Carolina. He sends me range souvenirs and spent grenade parts for my collection. I'm gonna' give him one of my AR's next time he visits.

Very nice.

Just wondering which you like better, the Glock 44 or the Taurus TX22?
I like the Glock 44 better, but the Taurus does have the better trigger. My son, Isaac likes the Taurus better.
The downside to the Taurus TX22 is the availability of holsters and mag pouches. With the Glock 44, anything that the Glock 19 fits, the 44 will fit.
I did have a holster made for the TX22.

Some think that shooting is the only way to have fun at the range. I have shot hundreds of thousands of rounds down range. I have also fired thousands of different guns. I still enjoy shooting, but teaching and watching news shooters at the range is very enjoyable.
They shot 60 rounds of 5.56, 100 rounds of 9mm and around 300 rounds of 22lr last night. Money well spent.

Good job gunny!!
I think my most fun time at the range is teaching new shooters. If they have fun I HAVE FUN!! I have been gulty of leaving the range with just a single round in the carry gun while not having personally shot a single round the entire day while we expend 500+ rounds. Makes me feel good to get others quality trigger time.

I know that grin. I suspect we most of us do. Nice job.

Thanks for sharing, that silly grin on a first time shooters face is truly one of the best rewards. Having grown up when Elmer Kieth and Skeeter Skelton were my heros, I sometimes forget that many of these guys around me today have never shot anything but a striker nine or an AR, so at the end of the day out comes a saa 45 colt or maybe a lever in 44-40. With the first time Cowboys I'm almost always guaranteed one of those silly grins. Seen it happen with muzzleloaders too and if you wanna make a lifer let them ring a piece of steel at a few hundred yards.
Thanks again.

I got chewed out for letting a boy, that was a friend of my own boy, from the cities shoot a Red Ryder. Safety glasses and all. I was next to him the entire time. He didnt want to let go of that bb gun, and was a crack shot by the time he ran out of of bb's. Nice to see parents are reasonable in other parts of the country. Good on you for passing along the hobby and the right.

Skeeter Skelton Was my favorite when I started reading gun magazines in the early 80’s. He was one hell of a story teller.
My first two handguns were single actions. Maybe we’ll just take some SAA revolvers next time and play cowboy. These would make a good mix.
