A couple of years ago my dad passed away. He was a huge influence in my life and a wonderful man. Everyday I try to be half the man he was.

When he passed it was important to him that we carry on family traditions and we talked about this often. He wanted to make sure that I taught my son to hunt and wanted him to have his shotgun when he was ready. My dad had a couple of shotguns, but his favorite was a Browning Citori. I have taken my son hunting since he was a toddler and we have been hunting together for as long as it was safe, but it wasn't until the last few years that he was able to safely shoot the Citori.

Today we headed out for some pheasant and he proved that he is fully ready to use his grandfather's shotgun. He hunted safely, passed on a couple of shots that weren't safe, and got a few birds. It made me so proud to see how he conducted himself in the field and I'm sure his grandpa was smiling from above. He just turned 16 but was a better hunting buddy than some of the guys I have been hunting with for 30 years.

There is nothing better than a good day in the field with special people and special guns. Today was a day that I will cherish for quite some time.

Congratulations all around, it looks like you guys had a great day!
I'm sure you dad would be proud that his grandson is using his shotgun, and youve done an excellent job teaching him to do so responsibly and effectively!
