A very common ethic. It goes along with the ethic that says it is icky to hunt animals but ok to buy a bacon cheeseburger.

Okay I looked at the rest of the rules the screenshot you put up made it look like a rifle only proposition.

I'd pull up the sks anyway just on preference.

Suppressor? If you have one then it’s the perfect setup.

Also, is there a reason to not use kill traps? Set head high your going to avoid most collateral damage.

what options do you have other than 9mm? Anything subsonic like 38sw or 32short? Less noise is better than BOOM. If your going to pop off a 9mm you might as well use the sks because noise will be similar.

Get one of the shotgun-to-22 adapters.

Obtain DP coon traps and trap them after
deer season with the land owner's permission

Not allowed here in NY. Those in power don't even want us to have guns capable of holding 10 rounds.

My dad once shot a coyote during dear season with his muzzle loader on his own land. He hates coyotes, they ate his cat. And he isn't particularly fond of cats, but it was his cat.

I have a friend that owns a farm and can not keep a cat there more then three or four days because of coyotes.
They would probable make nice live bait for trapping coyotes if it were legal.

Small dogs don't last to long outside on some farms either. Out in Western Washington eagles suck up cats, small doge, lambs, chickens, ducks and other smaller animals.

Our friends had a small Yorkie dog, his wife wanted to tag along while he went steelhead fishing and took her little ankle bitter with her. It was a nice dry, sunny winter day. When they got to his fishing spot she took a little walk down stream.
There was a eagle perched in a tree across the river that swooped down and snapped up her rug rat for lunch.


On the raccoon problem take the farmers live traps, set them with sardine, mackerel, caned cat food or another type of bait. When you catch them give them to some one who traps or just kill them & discard them.
Don't release them to give someone else the raccoon problem.
They kill a lot of birds by robbing the nest of eggs.

Yes I think that is a bit strange too but it is NY. LOL
Here in Indiana it's legal to hunt deer with a bow while hunting squirrel with a .22lr, I have done it many times. We are also encouraged to carry a side arm to protect ourselves while in the woods, no carry license needed. I have seen mountain lion & black bear in the woods but the DNR says that can't be true but won't investigate it, so that's why we are allowed side arms.

Keep it simple shoot them with slugs. I got one opening day two years ago. A 450 Bushmaster does "interesting" things to a raccoon at about 20 yards.

Go get a couple bags of cat treats and some of these.

No need to actively “hunt” them. I use them a few times a year, when too many of them are cleaning out the food from my hog traps.

Once caught you could kill them with just about anything, I use a .22.



You need to place them far enough apart where a single coon can’t be caught in two traps. Yeah, I learned that after it happened.

Never have caught a dog or cat in any of them, just opposable thumb animals like coons and possums.

Trapping and killing them does nothing to discourage deer, from what I have seen, it encourages them, eliminates the competition. Same goes for hogs.

I would say it is up to the property owner and you. Raccoons are nocturnal. If you see them during the day, that should be a warning sign. In Wisconsin:

• Landowners are not required to have a hunting or trapping license to shoot or trap raccoons on their own property. (So, I assume hunting rules do not apply)

Some counties in Wisconsin have shoot-on-sight regs because of the high rate of rabies.

Get him some racoon recipes.

Very similar to pork

When I had my Bluetick coon hounds I hunted them pretty heavy. I only harvested the medium to ex-large size of coons.
I gave all the medium size coons away for table fare and was given take home care packages of cooked coon, most of it was good, some fantastic and some not so good.
It would depend on how it was cooked and who cooked it.
If we catch a small to medium size coon in the traps it will be table fare.

Slingshot, sack full of ball bearings, lots of practice.

Or bait the area directly under your stand, bring a cinder block and a length of rope. Drop the block on raccoon #1, reel the block back in, repeat as necessary.

Aside from a CCW, we're not allowed any firearms in our possession except those which are legal for deer hunting, during gun season. We're also not allowed to have any ammo illegal for harvesting deer during deer gun season in our possession while deer hunting.
All other hunting seasons are closed during deer gun season, except waterfowl and raccoon at night.

We were out deer hunting the other day out on a seasonal limited road with lots of NEW YORK STATE LAND on it. There were some tracks going down the road so I told my brother to stop so we could see what made them. They were decent size. I thought maybe a good size bobcat.
Ended up being a human foot print and only the heel was visible the front got filled in by the snow from overnight .
I took a Wizz and a game warden come up upon us. We talked for fifteen minutes or so and showed him the red fox we caught in a trap. The only thing he asked is if the 22lr rifle was loaded.
No fuss/no muss.
