My Handgun collection has increased...

So the number of handguns in my collection has been for many years, really pathetic, I spend far more on rifles, buying 2-3 every year.

As of last January, I had two handguns, a Shield and a G19. The collection increased just slightly last year before the panic with the addition of a Gen5 G17.

But this year, oh boy, this year I've really added some firepower. Enough to make any Fudd red with envy.

I walked into my parent's house yesterday and my Dad who has far more handguns than he does long arms gifted me this hand howitzer...

That's right, a Heritage Rough Rider .22LR/.22WMR depending on the cylinder you install.

Honestly, it's gonna be a plinker, something the kids probably shoot more than I ever do. Does anyone else have one? Like it?

They are a lot of fun and they are cheap. The ones I have had were good enough that I want another one with birdshead grip. You really need to try out the mag cylinder, that brings the gun into a much different class than the LR provides.

Yeah I have the 22 WMR cylinder. I used to have an old Marlin bolt 22 mag rifle, wish I still had it

I will, we're far more of a rifle family, and the 9mms are just a bit much for the youngsters right now, I think the RR will fit the bill especially for the older kids.
 
No HRR, but a Ruger Wrangler. Similar idea regarding a decent and inexpensive plinker or tackle box gun, but a bit pricier, fewer barrel length and finish/grip options and no spare .22 WMR cylinder. :(

My 16 yr old son loves shooting “the cowboy gun,” it’ll be gifted to him once he leaves for college. :thumbup:

I have two of the HRR revolvers, a 4.75" inch "plowhandle" and a 3.5-inch "birdshead" model. They're both pretty slick-handling, and hard to put down once in hand. I haven't shoot the second one all that much. Both are Magnum-convertible. I like them a lot.

I do also have a Single Six ("New Model".) Haven't shot that one yet, though, despite having owned it for like four years.
 
Get some .22 Long (not long rifle) and try those out. Just as accurate and they eject more easily. Mine is more accurate with the LR cylinder than the WMR cylinder, thank goodness, but yours will tell you which it likes best. Have fun and stay safe!

Prep pandemic - it was sort of a Saturday date with my partner - visit with the kids, trendy lunch out, stroll through gun show. Forgot exactly what I was looking for, traffic slow up between two aisles of tables, I was looking on one side, turned to say something to my partner (who I thought was right behind me).
She is on other side with a revolver in hand, talking with shop owner. Strolled back across aisle, he is explaining how it works - doing a nice job. What does she have in hand, a birds head Heritage 22. And a smile on her face. She filled out the form, had some cash in hand to cover it - she carried it out.
Got home, couldn't wait to shoot if. Set up a row of on edge claybirds, reminded her how a single action works, loaded some 22 mags - she promptly busted the birds. Now it rests bedside, her side.

I have a couple of them with the extra magnum cylinder. Great inexpensive plinkers. Mine are a bit more accurate with the magnums. Just fun guns. I happen to like the unusual safety on them when teaching youngsters or newbies.

Good as they are for kids, I suspect you'll be shooting it more often than you think.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of getting one of these for years. One of these days I'm going to be at a gun show with some cash burning a hole in my pocket, won’t find anything incredible in terms of rifles, and it will happen. Let us know how she shoots!
 
I just bought my first brand-new gun. Not a big deal, but I'm in my 70's and well, the little Heritage RR 3 3/4 got to me. Also, my first Bisley grip--really nice.

I did some reading (after the purchase) and noted a fair number of folks talking about weak/broken springs, and also, loose screws.

I don't understand why Taurus or Heritage don't just fix the darned problems and be done with it.

A question I have is, how common are these problems?

I got the 3.5" bird's head grip just to see how I liked the barrel length and grip style. I had the idea that I really wanted a 38 special like that, and the HRR was so cheap that I saw it as an inexpensive way to test out the theory.

Nope. That shape of grip does not work with my hands.

Luckily HRR sells grip frames and grips. The 3.5" barrel feels good to me with the plowhandle grips. I may get a 38 like that one day.

Until then, I have the HRR. I can shoot it okay with the new grips. It's not quite to POA, but it groups decently and is fun to shoot.

I have a wrangler, and its one of my favorite guns to shoot between bouts of "the real stuff"
I had a RoughRider for a while, tho most of that was doing the paper work.....I had my ffl buddy bring it in. When I took it out of the box and realized the sights were crooked by just enough to bug me (which isnt alot). From there I went to my other buddies house to show him the gun, since besides the crooked tube I thought it was pretty cool, and he decided he wanted it right there...even called in the permit that day I think. I did shoot it before his permit was ready, and It SHOT just fine.
