My wife and i are bad at estimating weights. instructions were 15 min per pound. ham had no weight included in the packaging and was too light to register in the bathroom scale. i estimated 4 to 5 lbs. hmmmm what known weight could i use for comparison. i google the weight of my 7.5 inch 44mag Ruger Super Redhawk(3.3 lbs) .

I was off , the gun 20211224_181424.jpg felt heavier than the ham so my guestimate is 2lbs.

Merry Christmas!

I see a stick with a string tied to the middle, the ham tied to one side then the Super Redhawk tied to the other side of the stick. How many bullets (not ammo) of a known weight do you have lying around?

When I read that I immediately had visions of the witch scale scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail .

An ingenious way of comparing weights there OP.

Stay safe.

it worked out. the ham was baked perfectly. my wife insisted that it was 1.5 lbs. i agreed with her and used 2 lbs cooking time instead. it is often better to bend with the wind.

I mean, you could've weighed yourself , then weighed yourself plus the ham and then compared the two weights.

But I guess that's not American enough?

Weigh yourself on the bathroom scale then weigh yourself again holding the ham. Then do the simple math.

That's how you weigh live critters, not dead ones.

That is exactly the principle in use at grain elevators. The incoming truck is weighed, goes to the truck dumper and dumps the grain, then weighs on the way out. The difference is the weight of the grain.

By law, there should be a weight listed on it somewhere unless it was not intended for individual sale. Should also be a tag on it listing nutritional values per serving. By listing the serving size and the amount of servings, you should be able to estimate weight.

When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed you were gonna Cerakote the Ruger.........:)

Bake?

The only way to make Christmas ham is in the crock pot. I did a spiral cut on Christmas Day, IIRC it was 6 lbs. Put it in the pot, put a cup of brown sugar, a cup of real maple syrup, and a cup of brown mustard on top. Every hour or so, I basted the top with this solution. Perfect.

i kept looking all it had was a unit price of 19.99 and it had a jar of glaze ( which adds weight) with it and it definitely was not a pound. just a fun thing to do since i could easily look up the weight of the gun.

Thats a good idea. I'm going to cook my next ham that way. The hams are already cooked. They really just need to be warmed back up.
