Did some duck hunting this evening..........
Heh. Remember to boot up Moorhuhn on the PSX you seem to have there, to balance all this waterfowling with upland fowling too. It was THE game back in late 90's and early 00's when I still had a CRT video projector that was compatible with the light guns.

I know, I know. Way off-topic for this thread so let's leave it that, unless a benevolent Mod splits up this thread into a separate vintage hunting/shooting game one for us old geeks.

I'll admit I've never heard of Moorhuhn, but now I'm going to look into it .....

I apologize for the OT.....but it made me laugh, and I had to share.

Well, Mrs. Fl-NC finally scored on her first deer- a Fl Panhandle buck w/ 5 points. Yesterday was a doe day, so we were hoping to connect with one and to give her the best chances of success. As it turned out, this buck was the only deer we saw all day. I ID'd it as a legal deer and gave her the green light. It was taken at about 20 yards from a ground blind, using a Ruger American ranch in 300 BLK, suppressed by a Silencerco omega. The round used was the Barnes all copper 110 gr VOR-TX, Shot placement was as close to perfect as it could be, and the round exited. A lung was completely destroyed, and due to the angle, so was the liver on the way out. Ribs were also busted. The deer ran about 60 yards and crashed, and we heard it and were able to find him before dark. I arrowed a doe on this farm in Oct. I am allowed 2 does and 1 buck per season each year out there- so, I will be closing the season with a doe, since wifey took care of the buck. I'm happy she got a deer and the fact that her first was a buck makes it even cooler. Unfortunately, the area isn't known for big bruisers with tremendous racks- after all, it's Fl.- we shoot what we got. All that being said, I'm not a huge fan of the 300 BLK. Accuracy and terminal performance were definitely there, but what WASN'T there was a good blood trail. In fact, it was a terrible blood trail, and the way I found the deer wasn't following the blood trail- I did a cloverleaf search in the area where I estimated I heard it crash and found it quickly- I knew since I heard the crash it couldn't be too far due to my very damaged hearing. This is the second time I had a poor blood trail using 2 different "premium" hunting rounds for that gun. I will keep the setup, but I will use it myself- only taking shots at close range, and only neck shots. I'll also use it for coyotes and the like in smaller clearings. Moving forward, Mrs. Fl-NC will be hunting with my 243. I have taken plenty of deer with that, and the blood trails are always so big a blind man could follow them a short distance to a very dead deer.

Today is the last day of rifle season. After working 11hr yesterday and feeling like I wrestled a gorilla I decided to take today off. Between the 45min drive, maybe finding a butcher and $125 to cut it up it just isn’t worth the time. It’s funny how I get older I find it hard to get out.

I had been thinking that I was going to have tag soup, but last night this guy decided to give me an opportunity at about 140 yds.
CVA Optima V2 .50, 300 gr. Scorpion PT golds over 110 gr. By volume of Blackhorn 209.
Better late than never!

Beautiful buck & a neat photo; he probably spent hunting season being nocturnal. During gun season the only bucks I see on trail cams around here are all in the dead of night. Except for the rut, but that happens here in early November and gun season opened last month on Nov. 20th. They were all night owls by then. Got a nice trail cam picture of a nice buck strolling past the empty blind on Nov. 11th a little after 11 a.m.. You can see the blind in the background. I could have been in that blind with my buddies crossbow. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, right? Planning on doing more crossbow hunting next November around that time. IMAG0142.JPG ..

Lol yeah I rarely see bucks in it during daylight at all. My camera sits over the corn feeder patch. Loaded 500 pounds in it yesterday. That lasts about 3-4 weeks. Didnt have a chance to get out this year.

My best friend shot 6 times with this flintlock he made himself, the caliber, not sure, maybe
a 36 caliber or even less. I hear his jabber about black powder so much I can't retain it all.
Anyhow he got these 5 squirrels with 6 shots, and as usual I only see 4 but he said 5.
We carry on all the time about me going with Encore 45 caliber and triple 7 to shoot
deer and he will use a flintlock sometimes. Like I should follow his lead into the greatness of
recognition or something like that.
We always go at it for fun so he isn't here, now I can have the last word. Yet I do admire his
rifle building as well as his eyesight. His eyesight is 16 years younger than mine by the way.
I hunt squirrels with a Remington Matchmaster which has what he calls, a super cheater scope.
Love the guy and his whole family.

I passed these up earlier in the season.Had a chance at both during opening week of gun season, but haven't seen them lately. Hoping they survived other hunters and I might take one with my new crossbow next season.
