Semi Auto pistols I considered getting

I used to hate on the Mark 23 until I shot one, now it's my favorite gun and it's been my daily carry for the last 5 years.

You put a Red Dot on a MK23!!!

My Man!

There are areas in this country where people carry openly, also. ;)
My bad. He said daily carry and I immediately thought concealed carry while forgetting about open carry. Still that's a lot of weapon to open carry.

So you like the Beretta 92 but not the 5906? Try a 5904, it’s an alloy frame vs stainless, so weights will be more comparable. I truly wish more people DIDN’T like the 5906. I’ve been looking for a nice one, and a 5903 as well. As to the 6906, that’s actually an anomaly in the coding system; more appropriately it should be a 6903, since it’s an alloy frame with a stainless slide. The 6904 seems tougher to find but that, to me, is the sweetheart gun in the series, and my daily carry.

Autos I seriously thought about buying but the angels never lined up to deliver one… hmmm…

Coonan .357 auto. I loved the idea and I seriously started saving, then the company folded and the guns doubled in price overnight. :(

SIG 210. Another one that is a bit of a cult-grail auto. I’ve started in that direction once or twice, but each time I have gotten distracted and bought something else. Maybe someday I’ll pull the trigger.

A Wilson or Baer custom .45. That’s a “I’ve got it all, now I really want to shine” type gun for me. I’m getting there, just not quite ready for saving that long to get one gun. Amazing build quality, just mega pricy.

I think that’s about it.

Stay safe.

You need a .22 and a .32. Fun guns. I scooped up a Taurus clone of a Beretta 92 because it was pretty cheap. But it’s been an enjoyable gun. As for the Glock, well…. They’re so ugly! But good guns, and I can’t disagree about the model 19. It’s a fine candidate (maybe the best) for “if you can only have one handgun what should it be?”

I do intend to get a Glock .22 conversion one day. There are also Beretta and 1911 .22 conversions but the Glock seems like the best choice in case other people wanted to shoot it or if I ever have a family and they're starting out.

  • If you want a .22 Glock, just get a 44. Unlike the couple of .22 conversions I've shot, they work, and work well, and you have a complete gun to boot.
I recently picked up a Beretta M9-22, and it's a good shooter as well.

I would like the .22 LCP! I always had a thing for tiny .22 pistol

If your still looking for a S&W 5906, Century Arms has some listed currently.

I tried several pistols, but when I held and shot a H&K VP9 my search was over. It's my Goldilocks gun.

I've considered a G26 more times than I can remember, but every time I put one in my hands I remember why I don't like subcompacts.

I've considered a Kobra Carry, but I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on one gun, even the used one I found once.

Not an automatic - I've considered .44 Magnum revolvers, but then I look at my wrists and decide .357 is enough for me.

Yeah I shot a Colt King Cobra 3" at a range with 125 grain .357 and it really rocks your world. Thankfully my hand did not get sore and it was generally accurate.

Update a few months later: I did sell the Glock 19 and got a Gen 2 Glock 17. I think it fits my hands a little better compared to the 19, it's not that much bigger but carries 2 extra rounds, and the trigger is much better.

For a long time I’d go to a LGS and try to fulfill my need for a Sig 226. I’d give the gun back to the guy behind the counter thinking the grip was to fat and slippery. This happened a lot until there was one with Houge G10 grips. The grips are the game changer for me. I also like the E2 grips and the Legion feels great too. Now it’s the CZ Shadow 2’s turn, tried them and put them back.

Shoot a Walther in .32 ACP, it is lively - and fun, but not as much pop to is as a .38 ACP. I don't have one, but have a CZ-70 similar type, that is reliable and a great range toy. I had to mess with it, and eventually I figured out it was designed to shoot Fiocci 7.65 Browning, and runs 100%, it chokes on the US .32 ACP even though they are mostly the exact same cartrdidge.

I'm still on the search for a full size 9mm that I really want and like. I have an old Beretta 92S, and compared to the newer ones with the modern grip, it feels like holding and shooting a 2x4. It works, and I use it, but - eventually I'd like a new or newer full size 9mm that will just go with me the rest of the ride. I've looked at a bunch and there are several that are nice, just not ready to make a purchase on it yet. Maybe I'll wait a few years and prices will normalize a bit more.

PPK or PPKs?
I love my PPKs and carry it OWB and shoulder. It's metal, how hard can a .380 kick really.
