.32 S&W Long

Folks like the LCRs. However, I read that only about 8000 revolvers in the 32s were producted in 2019 or thereabouts.

For anyone interested there is a .32 H&R at Willey Bros in Reno for $175 right now, saw it today. Looked at it, didn’t have a need for it but it was a typical 32 and looked to be in decent shape for what it is.

To me, the .32 fills a niche, a light and handy, cheap to reload, open-carry gun for small game, plinking, and recreational target shooting. It’s a fun cartridge. I only have one revolver thus chambered, a 4” S&W Regulation Police, but I wish I had a more modern gun with more visible sights. A stainless .32 long or .32 mag J-frame with adjustable sights and a 4” pencil barrel would be sweet.

I also have a Ruger LCR in .327 Federal. It is the easiest snub nose revolver I have ever shot. Great trigger pull and with 32 long and 32 mag it is a peach to shoot. A lot of the accuracy issues I see with snub nose revolvers don't seem to happen with this one.

That being said, it is a tad bigger than my S&W J frames and does not fit in any of my holsters. Had to go to a gun show this weekend and finally found one that it fits. It also doesn't quite fit in my pocket like the others do either. I mean it fits, just not as comfortably.

I carried it for the first time yesterday with the new holster OWB style and forgot it was there. But I cannot carry OWB all of the time. Right now when I can I carry it and when I cant a carry the S&W 438 in the pocket holster.

That was probably done because the .327 shares bullets with the .30 Super that Federal announced last week.

As for S&W, their focus now is black tactical guns or other fad guns (Governor) so traditional stuff like a .32 revolver they have no interest in offering.

After the failure of .32 Mag in the 80s and the disappearance of everything .327 for a few years after Sandy Hook, Smith doesn't believe there is a market.
30 Super will not require a crimp groove for a semiauto, while 327 Federal Magnum, a revolver round, definitely does.

Smith would be WRONG.

The old S&W .32 Long revolvers are gold.
The Ruger Single Six H&R .32 are sought after by CAS shooters.
The Ruger SP101 and LCR .327 are great SD weapons.

The problem with the .32s is a lack of available guns.

If there was something from S&W there would be whining about locks.
On the Ruger single actions, would cowgirls almost alone generate enough demand? I would rather see their 327 Federal Magnum as a six shot, making it legal for CAS and relieving the problem of critical dimensions for loading gate alignment in the Single Seven. That gun would be able to shoot the array of 32 revolver cartridges.

It doesn't matter the gun, the 327 Federals are not "great SD weapons", because that round is crazy loud unless hand loaded subsonic. SD is very unlikely to include hearing protection. The guns are great though for 32 H&R shooting lead (too slow for hollow point expansion).

S&W sidelocks suck, but can be dealt with.

Blackhawk .327 could be 6 shooter.
The Single Six is a 6 shooter. The Super Single Six is the 7 shot.

The SP101 6 shot and GP100 7 shot in .327

The LCR in .327

Add a suitable SD bullet to the .327 and all bases are covered. .32 H&R would be better than nothing, but .327 is a viable SD cartridge.

Yes, it is loud. So is .357 and .38 and .22.

Wife had a .357 SP101, she liked the .327 much more.

The Single Six is a 22. The same gun was once offered in 6 rounds of 32 H&R.
There already is a Gold Dot round in 327 and 32 H&R. I have some but bet you couldn't find them to buy today.
The .357 is also too loud for SD and many have said so here. It can be loaded subsonic but apparently simply loading the guns with 38 Special or +p is common practice, because the 357 is just too much in the size gun that so many carry. Sure, 38 and 22 can be loud and high frequency but without the stunning pressure wave and ear ringing noise of the magnums.

Finding ANYTHING (gun, ammo, if component) right now is next to impossible, but getting better.

Reloading allows tailoring your loads and selecting your bullet.

So many here saying .357 is not appropriate for SD, yet, that is exactly what thousands of people use.

The wonderful thing is, we have a selection of guns, types, and calibers to choose from.

.327 is near .357 ballistics, without .357 recoil.

"The only other K frame revolver S&W chambered for 32 S&W Long that I am aware of was the 32 Military and Police. Nothing more than a 38 Military and Police (later known as the Model 10) chambered for 32 S&W Long. Fixed sights. SCSW says they were made with 2". 4", and 5" barrels. Only 4,813 made, so quite rare." Driftwood J.

A few years ago, my dealer called and said he had a customer with a S&W .32 long and wanted to trade for a .38/.357 and asked if I was interested. Long story short, I traded him even for a Model 66...we were both happy. Although most were shipped overseas there are still some out there. Another source stated only 910 were made with 5" barrels.

Didn't Taurus have 327 revolvers in the past? If so and they discontinued them to bring them back is very interesting. Maybe they know something about sales numbers we don't.

I like some 32s as well!
