I have always left crimped brass on the ground because I was reaming out pockets by hand with a chamfer/debur tool, and life was too short for that. And my results were...mixed. It was a lot of effort and never really worked all that well.

Lee Ram swager: easy to set, effortless to use, and has given wonderful pockets that feel just right when I seat a primer. I've only done 50 so far, and was so thrilled I had to come post a review.

I wouldn't have bothered, but I'm loading for a 300 ham'r, and supposedly the lake city cases are the best to use for this.

Edit: I got ram primer and ram swager crossed in my brain last night. Oops. Thanks to 25-20 wcf for pointing it out.

I'm with you! Sellier & Bellot cases are plentiful over here (= Netherlands) but they have very narrow primer pockets which is a real drawback when using other priming options. With the Lee Ram Prime, it's effortless to prime these cases, there's so much more 'feel' to the operation it's incredible. Very happy with it!

I concur. I have a dedicated Lee Challenger press with a Ram Prime that I use just for priming. Love how I can tell exactly when the primer is seated properly.

For the best pockets I use a Sinclair pocket uniformer. Its carbide and removes the metal that prevents a good primer seating and no primer upset. Ram prime is also excellent at seating the primers. I love Lee products.

To clear up the confusion in this thread, in spite of the thread title the OP is not talking about the Lee Ram Prime priming tool, but rather the Lee Ram Swage primer pocket swager. They are not at all the same in appearance or function.

Yes, ram swager! In my enthusiasm my brain farted if I can change the title I will, if not, a moderator is welcome to do so.

I do have a ram prime, and I DON'T actually love it. The primers don't have enough slide to get on the ram properly and I got a lot of sideways primers.

So I have been thinking of trying one of these swagers, but Lee's description states "Not recommended for use with our Value Turret Press or Classic Turret Press"
What is the reasoning behind not using it on a turret press? Is it just the fact that a lot of force is required for swaging and that is not good for a turret press?

After using mine for the first time a few minutes ago, I think your reasoning is right Scott. It does take a little more force than most other operations, other than sizing cast. My first impressions were very good as well.

Are you using it on a value or Classic Turret press?

No one likes using a reamer?

Mine's in the drawer. I work at a large outdoor range and can pick up brass all day long. I no longer keep and use anything with a crimped primer pocket. I give all my LC stuff to my friends that love it. They can then deal with it.
