I know it's a bit soon to ask but has anyone tried to reload this new cartridge? I've tried reloading the .32 acp and SW shorts but, they are a pita and, until recently, not worth the effort. The 30 SC however, has a nice strong case and should be as good a candidate for reloading as the .327's and H&R magnums. Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

If your talking about hot rodding it, we don't do that here.

I don't see myself getting one.
Hypothetically it's going to depend on a few other factors do you already reload? If not I'm not sure I'd suggest starting right now, I'd get a 9mm and shoot factory.
If it's a matter of just buying dies and a shell plate then we need to look at round count.
Without trying to delve into the one gun vs rotation far in the one gun reloading would about be a must. If you're a rotation guy like myself maybe not I don't load 380. Heck I've only shot my LCP max one time other than my initial reliability test, don't worry I've literally shot 1000s and 1000s of rounds thru snubs and pocket autos.

Id wait. To me reloading data at first will be sparse. Finding the best powder in these might be hard. Components good luck on that. I don't see this taking off for a couple of years. If it doesn't take off you're stuck. Interesting concept though .

If I were given 1000 cases, and found a gun at a good price, I might consider a 30 SC.

I do not buy loaded ammo, so reloads with my powder coated cast would be the only ammo fired in the gun. My SP-101 in 327 has never seen a jacketed bullet since it left the factory.

I have Quickload and know how to use it. I would pick a good looking powder for burn rate and load density and then I would work up to find the minimum load for good cycling. I would then go up just a tad more for margin and be happy.

Note that for range ammo, I would use reloaded primers (probably have to use SRP cups). Cost per round would be around $0.04 each.

I’ve started. I’ve only used two powders, and 5 bullet weights/styles.
I’ve learned a LOT. But, Also have a ways to go.
A few things:
HP38 is too fast to be useable. With a 90gr-100gr bullet, excessive pressures are encountered before sufficient slide/muzzle velocity is attained for reliable function.

LongShot is MUCH better. Slower yet (ACC#7) may be better, likewise #9.

A Lee 113gr RFN-GC shows much promise!

Bore diameter is as advertised on my pistol (S&W Sheild EZ). 0.313” . Cast bullets need to be .314”.
Pistol and Federal 100gr factory ammo are VERY accurate. My 1st five shots went 1” with two in same hole. Shot at 25yds from a padded rest.

Jacketed bullets will need to be .312” for peak accuracy.
Advantage of the .30SC is that it pushes a .312” jacketed bullet fast enough to expand and heavy enough to penetrate.

Dense spherical mid-slow powders will be best.
The range of powder charges between minimum (to cycle) and maximum are small. 10% or so.
It behaves more like a .30Carbine than a .32acp.
Although .32acp will feed from magazine, fired cases will not extract or eject. Not even close! I tried! Insufficient velocity/ energy.

This cartridge isn’t for everyone! It’s a hobbiest, purest, affectionado’s cartridge.
I like it, but I have a fetish for .32’s...

And BTW; Factory ammunition IS LOADED HOT! Like its big brother the .30Carbine, there won’t be any “hot rodding”.

When I first read the specs on the round I tried to use Quickload to see what would work. I will not post details given the "guessing" that I did on cartridge details. However, here is how it ranked powders for best velocity of a 100 gr bullet at 50000 psi. Your LongShot was only 45 fps below the top powder.

D037.2 / Heavy Pistol / AA 9 are shown about 100 fps below the top, but with 105% fill. I have never really been keen on compressing ball powders much at all.

Lovex D037.1
Accurate No.7
Lovex D036
Accurate No.5
Alliant POWER PISTOL
Hodgdon HS-6
Hodgdon Longshot
Alliant BULLSEYE
Winchester WAP
Lovex D037.2 Heavy Pistol

I’ve got Acc#9,#7, and some older #5 ((Czech made).
Also some Hornady 100gr XTP.
But, I’m going to run a work up with a 100gr cast bullet first.

The XTP’s are “only” .30cents apiece!

I am looking into it. Do not have .30 SC though.

I am trying to figure out if 7.62x25 Tokarev brass can be reshaped for .30 SC.
Also I would like to see how this performs out of a 4.5 and 6 inch barrels.

Overall, I welcome this development, although I wish that Rockisland SAAMI-spec their their .22TCM - as I think it fits the special area of easy-to-rock-the-slide + easy recoil + reasonable balistics is also very good.
May be with .30 SC, it is now too late for RIA to do push .22 TCM

If you don't have a gun yet then it might be a good choice, but recent events has showed us that 9mm will be produced as a priority and made available more cheaply than all others. The only semi auto I own now is a 45 so I don't have a horse in the race. That one extra round does not change the game for me and rmr isn't making cheap high quality bullets for it, kinda a show stopper for any volume shooting. It's billed as a self defense with Cary in the name so cast is probably not high on the menu.

Totally agree. Except I'm running so many different pistol cartridges I don't want another.
9mm will always be priority number one. It will always be cheapest. It's too middle of the road to be surpassed by anything.
At the same time the 30SC would be nice in a micro pistol. But it's going to suffer the same fate the 327 has. Cool. But too little too late.

After shooting 9mm and 38 special back to back, I’m less inclined to go the direction of a small high pressure round. It just doesn’t look like a round that is enjoyable to reload. If for some reason I had a 30 Super Carry I’d plan on loading for it, since I’d surprised if it is easy to find in 10 years.

It’s a nifty idea, but that’s a lot of pressure to get one more round than 9x19 and it still pokes the same hole as a 32 auto.

Full disclosure though, I’m going through an infatuation with 38 special’s versatility and still carry 9mm Luger because it’s easy.

I think it's a fascinating and, if it loads and shoots well, exciting new cartridge. I was spending a lot of time thinking about the 327 when it was announced.

I'm hoping some of the midrange like Kimber 1911 makers take it up. A more thin frame, 4.25" with a shorter grip (use smaller case to make it easier to conceal vs adding cartridge count) would be perfect for my wife. I believe browning made some 380s along these lines but they were faux 1911s (blowbacks). If a year from now I can't get something better I'll likely buy her the ez shield with safety.

So it'll be a while but I envision buying another Dillon toolhead stand and powder measure in the future for the SC.

I just looked at the SAAMI specs for 30 Super Carry, 52,000 PSI maximum average pressure!

What primers are recommended for handloads?

I don't know if I'd trust regular small rifle primers like Federal 200's, CCI 400's or Remington 6 1/2's at 52,000 psi since they're usually reccomended for rounds like .30 Carbine (40,000 psi) and .22 Hornet (43,000 cup).

I won't be reloading for it since I will never own anything chambered in it. It's another attempt at marketing the latest and greatest for the purpose of sales. Anything less than 9mm in a sd round is off the table for me anyway. I get it if one truly has wrist damage and issues with recoil but otherwise it should be a non issue for the younger crowd these days. No need to start with the faster follow up shots and all...ymmv

I've seen a lot of women at the range lately (good thing imo) and it may be a perfect fit for them. If your lady perfers it, that is reason enough
