I don’t own one but wish I did. I have a Weatherby SAS 12 ga and used to have a Weatherby Orion 20 ga, good, reliable guns and have experienced solid customer service over the years. I have always admired Weatherby’s rifles and his strong and lasting impact on the industry.

I thought this was a very good article. I checked out the $449 that the author paid for his Mark V in 1973 and in 2022 dollars it’s $2,945, almost the exact same price that the Mark V costs today, adjusted for inflation. Pretty interesting, that. Good read:

I have 2 MK V rifles. A .240 Weatherby and a .22-250. The .240 is a honey but I've had problems with the .22-250's trigger.
Also have a Weatherby Regency 12 ga. made by Zoli. It cost $600 in 1973.
I traded out work for both rifles.

I dislike the Vanguard from personal experience with poor accuracy among other things.
 
I have a Mark V in 300 Wby that's a really nice rifle. My dad bought it years ago for some hunts we went on but it's had very few rounds through it. It's really more gun than I need most of the time and I have lighter and handier rifles that are more pleasant to carry.

300 Weatherby seems a bit brutal !
 
I've got a Mark V Accumark in 300Wby, and a Mark V Custom Deluxe in 460Wby.
I bought the Accumark on a Tuesday, picked up the scope and mounted it on Sat, put 10 rounds through it at the range on Sunday, scope removed and shipped the rifle off to have the Accubrake installed on Monday. Now it's an all day shooter if you have descent ear protection.
I don't have a pic of the 300 at the moment, but I do have a vid that I put together for the 460 showing the rifle and taking it to the range.
 
The only Weatherby Mark V I ever owned was a gorgeous Lazernark in .270 Wtby. I shot a deer at 425 yards with it once - I rested the fore end on a tree limb and carefully squeezed the shot - shot was center chest and the deer just dropped - I was simply amazed at that rifle and more amazed at me.
 
Weatherby Mark V, the only firearm I've ever had fail in the field!

I do have a .240 Weatherby, but it's built on a Remington 700 action.

I also have a German Mark V in .300 Whby Mag. My Dad gifted it to me a few years ago. I still haven’t shot it, I really don’t need all that horsepower.

It is an awesome looking rifle though! :thumbup:

They must have been really avant garde when they first appeared. Such unique styling. I can imagine the Old Guard at the time going batchit. :eek:

You need to give your Mark V a day on the range and in the field! Remember that there is no such thing as over dead!
 
I really like 257 Weatherby, and the Weatherguard Mark V!

This deer was taken a 204 yds with a 117 gr. Pro Hunter through the back of the neck. Off of shooting sticks and a downhill shot.
Most of them shot at 250 yds or more simply drop. Shorter shots (100-150) require specific placement and a tough bullet.
