Welcome to you, Savage76! Are those Pacific blacktails, or do you have other species? Vancouver Island was an amazing destination some years ago, and we hope to return some day. Meanwhile, glad to hear that you are enjoying the community and thank you for your introduction.

Hello VDUBB. Glad to add your voice to the chorus. There are many here who share enjoyment of the shooting sports, and although we don't get much press, we are active and we care! It doesn't matter if your guns are fancy or plain, few or many. What matters is that we are always trying to learn and to help each other. I hope you enjoy your time here, and thank you for the introduction.

Hello sbklf, and welcome! We try to provide a resource and refuge from some of the hostility and rhetoric that seems to be everywhere these days. There is a lot of wisdom, experience and expertise in the members of our community, and I hope you will be able to enjoy and add to that knowledge base. Please be kind, and make yourself at home.

Hello,

My name is John. I am an Army Veteran. I’m interested in pretty much every type of pistol, rifle, shotgun from old to new. I was a certified Armorer while in the Army so I’ve certainly been around my fair share of variety. I’ve started my gun collection and I’m sure I’ll keep growing it as time goes on. As of now I’m only concerned with guns that I will actually use even if it is only to go to a range and target shoot with them for fun.

My beginners collection looks like this. I’ve got an old Lorcin .380 (don’t laugh ), Springfield XD9, Desert Eagle .50AE, old and unidentified 30-06 (more on this later), Browning A-Bolt 30-06, Savage Axis .243, CVA Cascade 6.5 Creedmoor, Marlin .17 HMR, Marlin .22, Remington 1100 16 ga, Remington 11-87 12 ga, and a Rock River Arms LAR-8 Varmint. I’ve had some others that were stolen from me that have never been recovered - Kimber .45 ACP, another Marlin .22, and Ruger 10/22.

Thanks for letting me join as I think this will be a very informative site from what I have been viewing. I see this site referenced in many other sites and that is how I ended up here.

Greetings, JohnF545! We don't laugh at other people's gun selections, and we are glad to have new folks join up. We hope you will learn a thing or two and help others learn as well. We try to respect each other so the information flows without egos getting in the way. You may want to check out the THR primer in the general guns discussion section, and if you have specific questions, posting in that specialized section will get you the most accurate help. Thanks for the intro!

I picked that old Lorcin .380 up from a pawn shop for $70 while I was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY 27 years ago. I was gone so often that my wife wanted a pistol and that was all we could afford at the time. Sort of keepsake at this point because it can throw noise more accurately than bullets (LOL). I just don’t want to let it go even though people often ask me to sell it to them. It honestly still shoots like it did when it was brand new. It’s just a very inaccurate pistol if you shoot beyond about 7 yds. :)

I learned earlier (about 5 years old) about guns and shooting them (prairie dogs beware). I'm not a hunter unless it's quail. Bought very few factory guns. Started building ARs about 6 years ago and now moved on to ba. I love shooting and reloading. Started reloading in '84 just after purchasing a 629.

Welcome to the zoo, small town life! There are many more dimensions to shooting sports than we read about in the "news", thank heavens. Small towns are part of what makes us who we are. They, like we, are probably living on borrowed time, but wonderful places to raise families and learn about life without losing hide. I hope you enjoy the THR experience. Check out the THR primer in the general gun discussion section for a sense of who we are and what we do.

Retired automation engineer. Now a gentleman farmer.
Have rekindled a love for an earlier passion Thompson Center firearms. Restored my 1970s Hawkens and never looked back. Have been on a quest of restoring old TC muzzleloaders.
But still enjoy shooting my Encores and Contenders. Enjoy the information I've found on this site.

Kelljp, welcome! We hope you will continue to stop by and find useful information here. There is a wealth of experience, many helpful folks, and we try to focus on productive things rather than fretting about that which we cannot change. The THR primer in the general gun discussions section lays out our SOP. Make yourself at home!

I'm a newbie myself. I dabble in farming also, so what do you plant?

Howdy All - I grew up in Odessa, TX; been living just north of Houston in Spring, TX, going on the last 20 years. I was in the Army a while several decades ago and currently work as a faculty librarian at a college here in Houston (yes, I am surrounded by the enemy every darn day!)

I like to put together all sorts of AR pistols and rifles and spend most of my shooting time up near Fort Worth, TX, with my Dad. Before the Triple C range closed up that way we managed to get pretty proficient at taking our ARs out to 1000 yards. We are at a new range near Waxahachie for the time being. We've made a new foray into bolt action chassis rifles this last year (6.5 CR, 6.5 PRC, .308 Win, .30-06 Spr, .300 PRC) and are determined to work out to a mile consistently with those before Dad gets too senile to safely reload our ammo.

I've been reading the forums here for a couple years but figured I might as well get off the pot. Thanks for listening.

Welcome aboard, citizenconn! Sounds like you bring some great experience to the group, and we can always use that. There is a lot to learn, but folks here like to help, and you will be a real asset. Give the THR primer in general gun discussions a quick read, and make yourself at home.

New gun owner as of June, 2020. Just turned 53. In the span of less than two years, the number of firearms I own has gone from 1 to 23. I own a variety, including semi auto pistols, shotguns (pump and semi auto), semi auto rifles and PCC's, a couple of lever actions, one bolt action, and one revolver.

Sounds like you were inspired by current events. Me too, but I only went from 1 to 3, but plan on more.

Welcome, average gun guy. We are glad to hear from you. Many of us started at an early age, but there are not near as many opportunities to do that in recent times. You are welcome here no matter how many guns you have or when you got interested. Check out the THR primer in the general gun discussions section and enjoy!

Just like money and fun, can't have too much (in this case "many").
