What is this die for?

Only thing I know of close to that size would be the 50bmg dies made for Lee presses with the size adapter. Doesn’t look like that though. Do you by chance have a set of thread pitch gauges so we could nail it down a bit better?

I’ll dig them out and get a thread pitch for them. I have Lee 50 bmg dies, this isn’t as long but it is wider

its 1 1/2”x12

The die is a Hollywood 12 Gauge final crimp die. The dies are used in the
Hollywood Universal 12 station turret press, or any press that will take
1 1/2 x 12 thp dies.

just looked it up. Found a few 20 gauge dies but that’s definitely it. Thank you. I got it from a friend who got it in a box of reloading stuff he got at a yard sale. Guess it will be display piece sitting on my reloading bench

If I ever get a press that will hold it I’ll run a brass case into it and see what happens

I thought everyone had a rockchucker, except me. I am making do with a lee challenger.
I've got a Lee Challenger press too. Had it for decades. It's the old style, that sits off at an angle.
I don't use it as a primary single stage anymore, I have a Lee Classic Cast for that. But, I do still use it.

The Lee Challenger press will do everything that needs to be done for probably 95% of the reloaders out there.

Yep, that’s the one I have. I love that angle. It’s got a nice feel about it.

This is the press they were originally designed for in 1955, the Hollywood Turret Tool. The aluminum alloy press is just a bit taller than the earlier all steel Hollywood Universal presses so that shotgun hulls would easily fit.

I have a Lee classic cast so the die doesn’t fit. I have been looking for a reason to buy a new press. Maybe I’ll get an rcbs ammomaster

Double check your press. My Lee Classic Cast single stage has a threaded reducer installed from the factory. It reduces the threaded hole down to the standard 7/8x14. What size the larger hole is I don't know; it's whatever the 50 BMG dies use.
