Wanting to buy a higher end firearm

At a certain point, you don't get much return on the dollars spent. Is a $3K Nighthawk better than a $1.5K STI. Yea, probably, but twice as good. Nope. If that extra money is no big deal to ya, great, spend it if the Nighthawk rings your bell. Most of us here have to budget & shop around

That price point is directly tied to your wallet. Except you're not looking at it correctly though. When you purchase from a small shop or custom maker you are paying for the craftsman. Your not paying for some min wage assembly line worker that slaps tab A into tab B. (even less in imports).. BTW you might want to revisit STI's aka Staccato's price points now-a-days.

A freaking high point will put a bullet through a piece of paper almost like my 5k 1911 would. A Mossberg can bust clays almost as good as a Purdy. To think otherwise is naive.

A cheap Casio will keep better time than a Patek. That said, a craftsman built the Patek Philippe and there should be some pride in that. There are millions of other analogies out there.
I am not saying to starve your family for "higher end" whatever, just if you got the extra scratch there is no reason not to take pride in something.. We have one go round on this rock, enjoy life.

Completely understand, you're not just paying for the item, you're paying for the time spent by a craftsman making that item. In the case of firearms, some can rightly be called works of art. And if that's what you're looking to get ( and can afford it ), by all means do it. I would if I had deeper pockets ( come on TX Lotto, smile on me ). Most of us clock punching ilk need to draw a line somewhere and weight return on dollars spent. I wasn't real clear about the STI comparison. I was thinking more of the old single stacks they no longer make. Gotta find them used, and they "usually" can be had for $1-2K.

I own a range of price point guns, like them all, but do to my older age starting to edge toward the higher end. So far Colt Python, and 3rd gen SAA, sig 226 and EAA witness silver team, Shot guns, Browning Citori 16 ga and a french Darne, also 16 ga, No real high end rifles, highest would be original swede mauser, rem 700 VLS and Armalite AR 15 heavy barrel. The fun part now is shopping for high end guns at a med end price

Who else is getting to a point were showing off your High End Guns is as fun as shooting!

5-10 more Years and I should be there!

Some people Like Fancy Cars - We like FANCY GUNS

Buy as much of a .22 target pistol or rifle/optics as you can afford.

Or a predecessor, the HW52.

There is a certain bourgeois satisfaction in spending a ridiculous amount of money on a gun which is pretty much useless for anything besides putting tiny holes in paper.....

Even more gloriously decadent is blowing $.40-50 on a single round of .22 ammo.........:D

I think I now have a couple higher end firearms. By accident. Since TC went kaput the value of their desirable products has jumped. I have 2 old school contenders. Both easy open, but older. One stainless and the other blued.

The dollar value on something doesn’t really make a hill of beans. It’s worth is what it means to you. My grandaddy gave me a marlin 60 squirrel stock rifle when I was tiny. He bought each grandson a rifle with his last few paychecks before he retired. That gun means a whole lot more to me than the contenders, or the rem700, or the 150 yr old revolvers I have.

The only thing high end needs to be the grin between your cheeks when enjoy the item however you choose to. Whether it be a gun, Rolex, baseball card, newspaper, 71 hemicuda convertible, or bar of gold; it doesn’t really matter. Sit on the shelf and be pretty, awesome. Sit in a safe never seeing daylight but your happy to know it’s yours… if that floats your boat. Pounding steel targets, burning tires, killing dinner, whatever…

Quality guns don’t lose “value” though so what’s kinda vanilla now may be high end next year. Just think of the $59 Mosins, $79Nagant revolvers, and $500 colt pythons.

1911 category - 45 acp. Dan Wesson, followed by Colt and/or Springfield

22 rifle category - Marlin 39A or maybe a new CZ 22 rifle

Shotgun - Browning pump or a Beretta semi auto

9mm category - Beretta 92 or Sig 226

AR category - BCM, Colt, or Daniel Defense

None of that is exotic but it’s all solid, well made stuff that definitely is a step or two beyond budget.

Edit to add…. You could spice up the 9mm by going with a Langdon or Wilson Beretta. The 1911 could be bumped by looking at Wilson or Nighthawk but I saw you mentioned a 1K price ceiling so that may be out of bounds for you.
Not the ceiling. Just ideal $ area. I'd spend more for something that really got me excited

Handled a Springfield emissary 1911, HK VP9 & Sig P320 Spectre today. That 1911 is beautiful to look at, but those grips were uncomfortable and they are part of what makes the gun for me so unfortunately I think I have to pass on that particular model.

Sigs still don't feel right in my hand so they are out once again.

The VP9 felt great and I'm sure it would be dead nuts reliable because my USP was. However, I am looking for something a little more special or at least gets me more excited. Not that I don't want the VP9 because I do.

They also had a Wilson combat that really didn't do anything for me looking at especially for $1,600 and they had a colt commander 1911 but it was 9 mm. Looked beautiful but again 9 mm so as much as it annoys me that I'm going to have to stock another caliber with 45 I think I have to buy a 1911 in 45 only.

They also had plenty of Rock Island 1911s and I loved mine when I had it years ago but I'm looking for something a little more special If I'm buying new.

If I have to stock a new caliber, it will only be for a 45ACP 1911.

Calibers I stock are 9mm, 40&W, 22LR, 12gauge & 380

Handled a Kimber Crimson today. Awesome, but I want fullsize. Also handled the Springfield 1911 Operator. Great as well, but no visual wow for me.

Handled an auto ordnance too and great, but not a stainless.

I am in love with the Kimber Rapide now. The stainless auto ordnance is also in consideration.

I also now want a CZ Scorpion.
