One the size of a glock 19 or smaller. So, does a reliable one exist? A few years ago I was looking at a compact EAA witness that seemed to fit that bill but read to many reports all agreeing that it was unreliable. I kind of left it on the back burner for a while, but recently started carrying the Springfield XDM elite compact 10 mm. I like this pistol a lot, don't get me wrong, but I have always prefered DA/SA hammer fired pistols with decockers.
I prefer to carry appendix concealed, but have heard of too many guys shooting themselves in the e'hem... when reholstering. I've even been present during one such near miss circumstance at a training camp. Fortunately it missed the goods and grazed his thigh, and only did enough damage to need some gauze and medical tape and he was up and running again. he's a friend and showed me the wound still looked nasty, but it was SO close to being a huge deal.

For that reason I've always conceal carried any striker fired pistols inside waist band on my right hand side. I personally have pretty good awareness of where my finger is, but all it takes is one 'oops'. that extra heavy double action trigger pull on a decocked pistol adds a cushion of safety there, but still has the added benefit of a single action trigger after the initial shot. I don't like manual safety's, just another thing to train and remember during times of potential extreme stress, so I dont carry 1911s that much in spite of my love for them.

Anyway, my reasons aside anyone know of any options that hold 10+ rounds? Even converting a compact 45 would be ok as long as its reliable. I'm
wondering if Springfield might end up making an XDE that would accomplish this.

No such gun exists unfortunately and Springfield killed off the xd-e this year.

The XDm compact 10 and G29 are still
The best bets for smaller 10s.

the sig 220 is already on my short list but as you said its not exactly compact. i am not opposed to buying used either if some 30 year old discontinued handgun fits the bill

It's also not a light gun by any means.I carry mine in the woods in a field holster, concealing one isn't goign to be fun.

SA and DA models are both very nice. I replaced the grips for some more aggressive Hogue grips and upgraded grip screws on the single action model.

Hate to say it, but I think your best bet is the SA Compact XDm. I plan to pick one up myself.

Even in full size configuration a SIG P220 comes with 8 round mags. Getting a 10 rounder in a Compact gun isn't going to be a common gun.

One reason for the lack of models is the 10mm is usually a way to get a hunting-ish round into a semi-auto pistol. For a hunting-ish gun, there really isn't much of a need for compactness. Typical personal defense rounds, like 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 Auto, for guns that would typically be concealed, are more available in compact firearms.

You know I've been debating this in my mind for a little while actually. I currently have a

Sig P938 Legion (primary carry) (8 rounds)
XDs 45 (Old primary carry) (6 rounds)
SA Hellcat (new unfired) (14 rounds)
HK P30 SK (11 rounds)
Ruger SP101 (5 rounds)

I really don't need all these small carry guns.

I love the Sig and won't sell it. In fact I want to pick up a second one.
I don't really shoot the XDs 45 anymore, and have always worried that the velocity on a 45 would be too low to expand the bullet from a barrel that short.
Hellcat should be a good carry beater with lots of rounds.
P30 SK I haven't carried since buying the Sig.
SP101 is my first handgun, so I think I'll keep that even though I hardly shoot it.

Seems the most logical thing to do is replace the XDs with the Hellcat, since I believe capacity in the XDs is lower than I care for.
And since the only difference in dimensions between the SA 10mm XDm compact and the HK P30SK is that the SA has an OAL 3/10ths of an inch longer, and a few more ounces, the SA seems a good trade. It also holds 12 rounds of 10mm as apposed to 11 rounds of 9mm.

I think I'll trade the XDs and HK toward the 10mm SA. That sized gun bridges a gap for me in carry capacity and power, and the HK has IMO been outmoded by the Hellcat as a 9mm platform, and the XDm as a 10mm.

Think I'll try and trade up next time I'm in the city. I prefer 10mm anyhow and load my own ammo. So I can cook up a good practice round that gets close to whatever ammo I choose to carry.

I'd also prefer to own fewer guns that I actually carry and shoot, vs more guns that collect dust.

Good lord, that will take me down to only my DW Commander length 1911 for 45 acp .

Now the question of my VP9 full size........................ With a Shadow 2 and CZC A01-LD, do I need the VP?

I carry strikers, because they’re smaller and lighter and for me, that’s all that matters in a carry gun, but I will always prefer a hammer for concealed carry, and appendix carry is out of the question, both for comfort and for safety.
