Purchased this pistol the other day and took it to the range yesterday with a hundred rounds of steel case Tula 115gr 9 mm. Had FTF/FTE first 60 or so rounds then tings seem to straighten out got 2 full mags thru without a hitch. Wondering if others have the same experience. Have to admit this is the first polymer framed pistol that fit my hand and was comfortable to shoot, tried Glocks,Smith MP and just never warmed up to them. I do plan to put more ammo thru the pistol and yes I'm aware a new pistol will have teething pains so to speak.

I had an SFX for a while with roughly a thousand rounds through it and never had any issues, but I never used steel cased ammo.

My SFX also has a thousand rds through it and it hasn't a single issue. I have never used steel cased ammo and would never break in a new firearm with that ammo. Buy some decent ammo and your SFX will probably run flawless as well.

I have about 3000 rounds through my SFX. All reloads, with no FTE. I had a few FTF because I didn't do the plink (or is it plunk) test on my reloads before shooting them. The chamber throat is shallow so I had to shorten my OAL. Once my reloads where adjusted it has been flawless. The only problem is finding extra magazines. I bought Walther 18 round mags ($$) and had to slightly raise the notch for the magazine release with a Dremel tool to get them to work. I'm happy with this pistol - soft recoil, very accurate.

I have the SFX, just passed the 1000 round count, only brass case,115 and 124 FMJ. No complaints, no problems, dead accurate. Wish we could have full factory mags in NJ and not 10 round limit. Be a lot more fun.

The magazine limit is probably the least annoying of NJ gun laws. The purchase permitting process is ridiculous even when it goes according to the statute, which it rarely does (my BIL waited months just for his FPID.) Couldn't wait to leave.

Canik recommends breaking in their guns with ammo that meets NATO specs. You can also request a replacement recoil spring from them.

I had one that ran great for almost 4,000 rounds. The person who bought it from me still has it and bought another.

Use your favorite search engine to find "canik fanatik forum". It's a good forum dedicated to Caniks.

I have no hands on experience with a Canik but my SAR9 required breaking in with 9mm NATO (124 grain). I think a lot of the Turkish made semis are designed for 9mm NATO rounds, but that's just a guess on my part.

Try to break in your Canik SFX with hotter ammo as mentioned above. I put many 1000s though my original Canik SFX without a hiccup. If needed try another RSA from Century.

I like the SFX so much I just bought the new SFX Rival Darkside. Pick up in a few days

The SFX is a great gun and you will get lots of good use from it!

No issues with my SFX or SC for that matter. I haven’t shot steel through them. As others have suggested, the combination between 1) stiff brand new recoil spring, 2) steel cased ammo, and 3) possibly weaker powered ammo contributed to the FTEs. If it’s humming along now, I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if it’s running with the ammo used when having the hiccups.

Tula is what I had on hand other than my handloads and 124gr NATO is scarce in this neck of the woods.
Have to check my brass stash and load up some up 135 grain .357 truncated cast I have on hand.

Took a few boxs for my sfx to run 115 low cost ammo reliably. Most of what i shoot are reloads and it hasnt had any issue with those.

I picked up a new Canik Sfx Signature Series, whiteout. Came across it in one shop.. almost bought it. My gut said wait... even though my wife said go ahead. Shocker I know.. atlas got to the next shop. Saved over a hundred bucks. Always trust the gut. Excited to take it to the range.

i bought a rival darkside a few weeks ago and read posts on the canik fanatik forum. there were posts regarding ejection problems when new due to stiff springs
one recommendation was keeping the slide locked back while wating for the first range session. i was dry firing mine to feel the trigger a bit and left the slide locked the night before and had no issues with factory 115 gr and my 147 gr reloads

Totally agree. MELE SFX and TP9SFX both purchased new, when I got them home, gave both a thorough cleaning and left them with the slides locked back. Have had no issues whatsoever with factory 115 gr range ammo from day one.

I read some of the Canikfanatic stuff.. I see some mention of the nato ammo recommended.. I found a site a while back US Army loaded ammo regulations. Looked legit. Like it was scanned and posted . Had rifle, pistol, and I believe other arms load data, blanks , gun checking ammo, etc. I ll have to try to find it, and share. I believe all listed was Nato spec stuff. Alot had powder used and weights. Some did not. Had the tracer ammo listed and some others. I may have printed it out

Yep with Caniks, best to shoot 100 or so 124 grn nato loads, then keep slide locked open when storing for a few months. Never had any issues when I've done this with them. Best striker fired pistol I've ever owned... and I've owned and sold off most.

I said that exact thing to the SAF and GOA when I was notified of their work against the Washinton ban. I asked where their lawsuits are in NJ to overturn our draconian laws.

I have a black and a FDE one I have been shooting in practice and competition and they have been good to go from day one.
I am not sure if I ever had a malfunction unless it was an upside down primer.
95% of my ammo shot has been coated lead,FMJ and JHP all my reloads and usually 124grn. Canik SFX Black.jpg

Should mention I've the Mete model. Going to order some 124 gr NATO spec ammo in the next few days to run thru the pistol.

I have a regular SFX and a Whiteout edition. I've heard and read they need hot ammo to break in or you install a different recoil spring. Mine have been fine out of the box with regular 115gr. Just wish I could get extra magazines

Neither my SFX or Rival required hotter ammo. Both ran perfectly from day one.
